Inside the messy love lives of Gavin & Stacey cast..from groping claim to star's affair & James Corden's pass at singer
IT'S the TV series that proves that love conquers all - even culture clashes, long distance and in the case of Smithy and Nessa, the awkward fact that he's marrying someone else. But while our favourite Gavin and Stacey characters got their happily ever after in last year's Christmas special, we're afraid the same can't be said for their real-life alter egos. 20 20 20 Just take actress Ruth Jones, who - as well as starring as Nessa - co-created the beloved series with James Corden. Yesterday, the 58 year old revealed that she'd 'amicably' split 18 months ago from her husband of 26 years, David Peet, 71, and said they were now 'legally separated'. She added in a statement, 'We remain good friends. Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship'. It's since been revealed he's dating education assistant Jayne Charity Cook, 46, who bears an uncanny resemblance to the Gavin and Stacey star. As friendly as it may be, the break-up has still come as a shock to many - not least given the fact that Ruth and David were together for almost three decades. Yet their relationship wasn't without its drama early doors. The pair first met in the 1990s while filming the pilot episode of a BBC comedy; but while she was single, he was married with three children. She later admitted there was some 'overlap' between her beginning her relationship with David, and him ending his marriage. They married in 1999, and Ruth became a step-mum to his three kids. She's since spoken about her guilt over the way things started, reflecting, 'Affairs cause a lot of pain; they're not something one aspires to do. You don't aspire to cause pain to people in their life." As for the rest of the Gavin and Stacey gang, nobody's had it quite so tidy in the love department. In fact, for most of them, it's been downright messy. So, what's occurring when it comes to their respective romantic foibles behind the scenes? Watch the sweet moment Ruth Jones reunites with Neil the Baby after Gavin and Stacey finale James Corden 20 20 20 Before meeting his wife, Julia Carey, James, 46, had a tumultuous relationship with his co-star, Sheridan Smith. The pair dated - on and off - for two years, before finally calling it quits in 2008. In the meantime, during one of their off-spells, James famously tried it on with Lily Allen, after flirting with her on her BBC chat show. Reports from the time suggested they did in fact go on several dates, but Lily shut down the rumours quickly, revealing, 'No, I wasn't horny for James Corden…he came on to me in front of a studio audience. 'If I'd have shut him down, I would have been labelled cold or up myself or snobbish.' James admitted he had been trying to hook up with the star, explaining: "I made it my aim to make Lily mine. I guess we were friends but, for my part, I definitely wanted more than that." His efforts may not have made the singer Smile, but James had better luck with Julia, who he met after finally ending things for good with Sheridan. They got together in 2009 and married three years later, with James revealing on Good Morning Britain, 'I absolutely knew minute one that I couldn't do any better than this. 'When I met Jules, I was like it's a miracle every day. She must just look at me and think, 'What did I do? This was a huge mistake.' Despite his concerns, it seems the feeling's mutual. The couple, who share three children together - Max, 14, Carey, 10, and Charlotte, seven - are still going strong, and relocated the family back to the UK in 2023 after eight years in Los Angeles. A marriage that survives Hollywood? As Smithy would say, sounds like they're two peas in a bag. Mat Horne 20 20 Mat 's alter-ego Gavin may have married Stacey in the finale of season one, but the actor didn't make it down the aisle with his first fiancée, Casualty star Evelyn Hoskins. The pair announced their engagement in October 2018, but the happy news was short lived as - months later - he was spotted kissing Norwegian set designer Celina Bassili. But Evelyn's loss was Celina's gain - the latter married Mat in 2021 in an intimate ceremony in Oslo, Norway, and they're still going strong. As for previous rumours that he once dated Kylie Minogue, the actor's jokingly rubbished the very thought of it. The 46-year-old previously told The Sun, 'If I'd shagged Kylie everyone would know about it. I would have a T-shirt and a tattoo telling them. 'The idea of people camping outside my mum's house last year to ask her if i'm seeing Kylie is ridiculous. Of course nothing happened…she's Kylie!' Joanna Page 20 20 As Stacey, Joanna 's always been a hopeless romantic. And, for the most part, her personal life has followed suit. She met fellow actor James Thornton on the set of David Copperfield in 1999 and they married four years later. They now share four children - Eva, 12, Kit, 10, Noah, eight, and Boe, three - and live happily in Henley-on-Thames. However, she did admit things hit the skids during COVID, when the couple found themselves struggling for the first time ever. 'We spent the whole of the first lockdown arguing and threatening to divorce each other,' she's previously said. 'Then we went through a month of literally not saying a single word to each other.' They've since come back fighting - and Joanna's spoken about spending more time together one-on-one. Speaking to Natalie Cassidy on the On The Telly podcast last year, she said she'd be taking James away for his 50th birthday. She said: 'I thought stuff it, I'm going to take me and him away for a couple of days because we've never really been away for a good few days, just the pair of us." Sounds lush to us. Alison Steadman 20 The actress, 78, who played Gavin's iconic mum Pam, was previously married to legendary director Mike Leigh. The pair met at East 15 Acting School in 1967, and got married in 1973, before welcoming two sons together - Toby, now 46, and Leo, now 43. During their marriage, Alison often appeared in Mike's films, including Abigail's Party, Nuts in May and Life is Sweet. They split in 1995 and divorced in 2001, but always remained close - and are now dedicated grandparents to Freddy, seven, and Milo, one. What's more, Alison got her second stab at happily ever after when she met Welsh actor Michael Elwyn. The pair have now been together for 27 years and enjoy a cosy life in north London, which includes a mutual love of bird watching. In 2022, she paid tribute to her long-term partner, saying, "I really appreciate how wonderful it is to enjoy doing things with someone at this stage of life, knowing we'll be together until one of us flies away up to heaven." Larry Lamb 20 20 As Mick, Larry played the patient and down-to-earth antidote to his wife Pam's theatrics. But in real life, Larry's love life reads a little more dramatically. He married his first wife Anita Wisbey when he was just 21, and had one daughter with her - Vanessa, who was born in 1969. Sadly, he only met her once, when she was seven months old, as Vanessa was subsequently adopted by her mother's new husband. Larry has since expressed his sadness and longing to connect with Vanessa, stating that he thinks about his 'long-lost daughter' often and wondering if she ever had children herself. As for his romantic life, he didn't let divorce slow him down. His second short-lived marriage was to an American nurse named Jacquie Parris. Then, following a brief fling with Lady Colin Campbell, he married his third wife, Irish singer Linda Martin, in 1979. The pair had one son together - TV presenter George Lamb, now 45 - before splitting in 1996. And since then, it seems Larry's had a different attitude when it comes to marriage, deciding that three was enough after all. In the mid-1990s, he entered into a long-term relationship with actress Clare Burt, with whom he shares two daughters - Eloise, now 27, and Eva-Mathilde, now 22. They then split in 2016, and Larry's since been happily coupled up with artist Marie Victorine. Marie was there to greet Larry when he left the I'm A Celeb jungle soon after he split from Clare, and the pair now share a happy life - splitting their time between London and Marie's native France. Despite the fact that she's the great granddaughter of Les Misérables writer Victor Hugo, it seems there's nothing miserable about Larry and Marie's long-term love. Rob Brydon Rob, 60, won rave reviews for his turn as the hilariously eccentric Uncle Bryn in Gavin and Stacey. In real life, he hasn't always had such glowing praise. The actor was married to his first wife Martina Fitchie for nine years, welcoming three children together - Katie, 30, Harry, 28, and Amy, 25. But the pair split in 2001, leaving Rob 'traumatised'. He's since said it took him 16 years to be able to open up about his heartbreak, not even including it in his 2011 autobiography Small Man In A Book. Happily, he recovered from the turmoil and found love again with second wife Clare Holland, who he married in 2006. The couple have two sons - Tom, 17, and George, 14 - and live in south-west London. To quote Uncle Bryn: 'It was complicated, Stacey. Very, very complicated.' Sheridan Smith 20 20 It's no secret that Sheridan, 43, has had a long and tumultuous dating history. After splitting from co-star James Corden - who played her brother on Gavin and Stacey - Sheridan briefly dated Scottish actor Ross McCall, and celebrity stylist Graham Nation, who tragically died earlier this year. She then went on to date Hollyoaks actor Greg Wood in 2015 - and, in a regrettable move, got her right rib tattooed with the words 'Gregory's Girl'. He returned the favour, with the tattoo 'My Sheri Amour'. Unfortunately, their tattoos outlived their fling, which ended later that year. Sheridan then went on to date insurance broken Jamie Horn, after meeting on Tinder. They later got engaged, and she gave birth to their son Billy in May 2020. Meanwhile, amid their relationship, Sheridan was rocked by reports she'd 'put her hands all over' her hairdresser Shelley Cloud during a boozy session at her home in 2018. 20 20 Shelley alleged that Sheridan had boasted, 'I swing both ways you know' and had also complained about having to pay for her own £10,000 engagement ring. The actress never responded to the allegations, and she and Jamie remained committed for a while - before splitting in 2021. Later that year, Sheridan revealed she'd rekindled things with actor Alex Lawler - who she'd previously dated 20 years prior. The pair seemed to delighted to be back in each other's lives, with Sheridan telling fans, 'Life works in mysterious ways', before calling things off again in 2022. She then went on to date former boxer Dave 'Rocky' Ryan, but - by early 2024 - things had 'fizzled out'. As for her current dating life, the actress is keeping her cards close to her chest. But, safe to say, events so far have been distinctly untidy.

Inside Ruth Jones' marriage breakup from affair that started relationship to ex-husband's look-a-like lover in Canada
THEIR relationship began in scandal – and now, 26 years later, it seems it's ended the same way. After Gavin & Stacey star Ruth Jones, 58, confirmed her shock split from husband David Peet, 71, rumours are swirling that he left her for another woman - one who, awkwardly, could pass for Ruth's double. 9 9 9 The TV producer is now living thousands of miles away in a quiet Canadian town with new partner Jayne Charity Cook, while Ruth has relocated from Cardiff to London to focus on her ever-flourishing career. Fans are convinced Ruth hinted at her heartbreak in her recent Sunday Times bestseller, By Your Side, which follows Linda - a curvy, teetotal woman in her 50s - whose husband runs off with another woman to open a café in Spain. While promoting the novel at the Bath Literary Festival in May, where she was notably without her wedding ring, Ruth admitted Linda was based on her. Tellingly, she described how the fictional husband's fling with a colleague finally ended a long but lacklustre marriage. 'It was never a really great big romantic marriage,' she told the audience. 'They got on fine. They had a good sex life but that was kind of it. 'They were good friends. When he (the husband) went off with Denise at his place of work, and ran off to run a cafe in Spain called Doolallies, she was quite happy to see him go.' It's hard not to draw parallels with Ruth's real-life split. In a recent statement, she confirmed she and David went their separate ways 18 months ago, 'amicably,' and insisted they remain 'good friends.' Since then, Ruth's star has only risen. She's just scooped a BAFTA for her much-loved role as Nessa, topped the book charts, and is filming a gripping Netflix thriller Run Away, alongside Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt. Meanwhile, David has swapped showbiz for small-town life – and a new romance out of the spotlight. Ruth Jones brings back Gavin and Stacey's Nessa one last time as she picks up comedy TV BAFTA Jayne went public with David in April, updating her profile picture to a loved-up snap of the pair. She also shared photos on Threads, writing: 'Spent the weekend with my love and had an amazing time.' Describing herself as a 'MommaBear, great Friend, Lover, Partner, Daughter, Sister,' she has two adult children – Alexander and Isabella – and is a proud grandmother to their three kids. She has worked as an Education Assistant at the Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw School on the Tsulquate Reserve since 2016. While it's unclear exactly when - or how - Jayne met David, he's believed to have moved to Canada several months ago. 'It's a bold move across the Atlantic,' a source said. 'But David saw it as a new chapter in his life and an exciting opportunity he couldn't ignore.' Their split came as a shock to industry insiders, who remember Ruth first meeting David in the early '90s while working on a BBC Wales pilot. According to Ruth, it was 'love at first voice' after hearing him on the phone before meeting in person. 'He has a very sharp mind combined with a dry Yorkshire wit, making him a naturally funny man,' she later commented. Their relationship began while David's previous marriage was coming to an end – something Ruth has since spoken about openly. 'Affairs cause a lot of pain – they're not something one aspires to do,' she previously said. 'You don't aspire to cause pain to people in their life.' Their romance triggered the divorce from the mother of his three children, Louise, Alex and Fiona, all now in their 30s, who Ruth remains close to. 9 9 9 The pair tied the knot in 1999 and went onto work with each other again, co-creating her Sky comedy Stella, in which she plays the title character - a struggling single mother - which ran for 58 episodes from 2012. The former couple used to split their time between their two properties in Cardiff and the Scottish Highlands, where they own a holiday home. Despite their strong union, they never had any biological kids together - with Ruth admitting she never had a strong desire to be a mother. 'It just didn't happen,' she once said. 'It wasn't a decision. I don't have a burning desire to have babies. "I think it's heartbreaking if you do and you find out you can't have them. I love being a stepmum - all the joys of motherhood without the pain of childbirth." 'Teenage angst' Despite not being particularly maternal, Ruth was a natural stepmother. 'You take things as they come,' she admitted. 'There wasn't a moment when I thought, 'I've become a stepmum now'.' She has always spoken fondly of her stepkids and expressed excitement about the possibility of becoming a step-grandmother one day. "We never had any difficulty with teenage angst,' she recalled. 'And now I'm looking forward to becoming a step-grandmother at some point." Their split follows the much-anticipated 2024 Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special, where Ruth's beloved character Nessa finally tied the knot with her longtime love Smithy, played by co-writer James Corden. The episode – fittingly titled The Finale – marked the end of the hit series, pulling in a massive 12.3 million viewers. Ruth and David had previously collaborated on the 2009 Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special. Ruth's portrayal of the straight-talking Welsh legend Nessa earned her a BAFTA for Best Female Performance in a Comedy this May - and while she collected the award barefoot, she was still wearing her wedding ring at the ceremony. But she failed to mention husband David in her acceptance speech. Instead, she paid a heartfelt tribute to the Gavin & Stacey cast and crew, singling out her co-writer James Corden, saying: 'I love you, James. I love writing with you - and long may it continue.' Ruth and James have co-written a memoir due out in October titled Gavin and Stacey and Everything in Between. 'It's really the story of our friendship,' Ruth told Lorraine. 'We've been close for 25 years now. He's one of my best friends. I adore that man and love being in a room with him – so hopefully we'll write more together.' 9 9 James and Ruth's friendship goes way back - the pair first met while working on Teachers and Fat Friends back in 2001. James has spoken just as fondly of Ruth, once describing her as someone he 'loves more than you could ever imagine.' While Ruth insists her and David remain 'good friends', insiders wonder if they'll continue to work together. Although Ruth says she and David are still 'good friends,' it's unclear whether they'll continue to work together professionally. David, a TV producer and Ruth's former business partner at Tidy Productions, has played a key role in many of her projects over the years. He's worked on Gavin & Stacey, Stella, The Great Outdoors, and the festive film A Child's Christmases in Wales. He also served as an executive producer and writer on Gavin & Stacey, and was behind Ruth's one-off specials, including Ruth Jones' Christmas Cracker (2010), Easter Treat, and Summer Holiday (2011). In 2019, Ruth told Radio 4's Desert Island Disc how she prefers staying at home than attending glitzy showbiz events. She also recalled her meeting with Barack Obama at a dinner at Downing Street in 2013 and how he's a fan of the Welsh accent. She told how he was particularly charmed by Jones's tendency at the time to say 'Brill-iant' and stick her thumbs in the air. 'I went very Welsh. I went 'Hiya!' and shook hands with him,' she told presenter Lauren Laverne. 'I said 'Can I just say? Congratulations! Brill-iant!' 'And he shook hands with me and then leaned down and said: 'I really need to learn how to say that – brill-iant!'.' While David settles into his new life in a quiet town in Canada, Ruth is busy filming her new Netflix thriller, Run Away - the latest Harlan Coben novel to be adapted for the screen. She stars alongside Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt in the gripping new series, and it could mark a fresh chapter for Ruth – both on and off screen - as we're about to see a very different side to her. 'I've been playing a private investigator and I've really enjoyed it – it's so different,' she says. New role, new career direction… perhaps even a new man too, Ruth?

EXCLUSIVE Ruth Jones' former husband has already left his life in the UK behind and has settled in a small Canadian village with his new Gavin & Stacey lookalike girlfriend
Ruth Jones' former husband David Peet has left his life behind in the UK to relocate to a small village in Canada to be with his new girlfriend. And the pair have already gone social media official after she posted a new picture of the pair kissing on Facebook. Mailonline can reveal the TV executive has moved to Port Hardy, located on the northern tip of Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Home to just 4,000 people, David has chosen to start afresh with Jayne Charity Cook, a 46-year-old digital creator, despite having three children and businesses back home. And now Jayne has posted her first snap of the couple since their relationship was revealed by MailOnline on Thursday morning, sparking a flurry of supportive comments from pals. One wrote: 'I'm so glad you found someone that makes you absolutely happy, you are glowing so bright.' Another added: 'You both look so happy. I love this for you.' David split from the Gavin & Stacey star, who he was married to for 27 years, 18 months ago and is believed to have been living in Canada with his new partner for several months. An insider said: 'It's a bold move across the Atlantic. 'But David saw it as a new chapter in his life and an exciting opportunity he couldn't ignore.' David, 71, and Ruth, 58, announced their marriage split on Wednesday, 24 hours after Mailonline approached his new girlfriend in Canada to ask if they were in a relationship. They released a joint statement, writing: 'We amicably went our separate ways 18 months ago and are now legally separated. We remain good friends. 'Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship.' Jayne appeared to make her relationship with David public via her Facebook page in April after setting a cosy snap of the pair as her profile picture. She also shared snaps of the couple on her Threads page around the same time, writing 'spent the weekend with my love and had an amazing time.' She describes herself as 'a MommaBear and being a great Friend, Lover, Partner, Daughter, Sister' and has two adult children – Alexander and Isabella – plus she is a doting grandmother to Alexander's son and Isabella's two girls. She has worked as an Education Assistant at the Gwa'sala-'Nakwaxda'xw School on the Tsulquate Reserve since 2016. Meanwhile national treasure Ruth is stepmother to David's three children from a previous relationship - Fiona, 35, Louise, 33 and Alex, 31 - and is believed to be close to them, taking on the role of grandmother to their children. The former couple used to split their time between their two properties in Cardiff and the Scottish Highlands, where they own a holiday home. In recent months, Ruth has made a string of appearances without her wedding ring, including on stage at the Bath Literary Festival in May, where she was promoting her new novel, By Your Side. Intriguingly, the book centres around a recent divorcee, Linda, who Ruth says is loosely based on herself - and is a fuller-figured teetotal woman in her 50s. She told her audience Linda had recently abandoned a long marriage after realising she had become 'friends' with her husband, but triggered a break up after he had an affair with a work colleague. The star added: 'The other thing I really love about her is that she (Linda) was married and she got divorced and she gets on fine with her ex-husband. 'It was never a really great big romantic marriage. They got on fine. They had a good sex life but that was kind of it. 'They were good friends. When he (the husband) went off with Denise at his place of work, and ran off to run a cafe in Spain called Doolallies, she was quite happy to see him go.' Their split comes after Ruth's iconic character Nessa finally married on-off lover Smithy, played by co-writer James Corden, in the 2024 Christmas Special of Gavin & Stacey, watched by 12.3million viewers. The episode, titled The Finale, was the last ever instalment of the comedy classic, which first aired in 2007. She previously worked with her husband on the 2009 Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special. Her performance as the no-nonsense Welsh fantasist earned Ruth a BAFTA for best female performance in a comedy last month, where she was seen wearing her wedding ring. However Ruth omitted David from her acceptance speech after collecting her BAFTA in May, in which she paid a huge tribute to the cast and crew of Gavin & Stacey, namely her writing partner James whom she said: 'I love you James, I love writing with you and long may it continue.' Ruth and David first met while filming a pilot episode of a BBC comedy, and the actress once admitted he was in a relationship at the time. Getting together then sparked his divorce from the mother of his three children, who are all now in their 30s. She said: 'Affairs cause a lot of pain, they're not something one aspires to do. You don't aspire to cause pain to people in their life.' They married in 1999 and went onto work with each other again, co-creating her Sky comedy Stella, in which she plays the title character - a struggling single mother - which ran for 58 episodes from 2012. In 2008, they co-founded production company Tidy Productions - named after Ruth's Gavin & Stacey catchphrase - which made Stella, plus they also co-produced the comedy star's Radio Wales show Sunday Brunch in the same year. However, David and two business associates recently set up a new film production company called Toffee International with the TV executive giving a correspondence address - for the first time - in Inverkirkaig in the far remote north west Highlands of Scotland. Ruth is not a part of this new company. Away from the television industry, David owns a restaurant located near their holiday home in Lochinver, a pretty fishing village in the north-west coast of the Scottish Highlands. The eatery - called Peets - is one of just a handful of attractions in the region and sits on a sheltered bay on the edge of Loch Inver, offering spectacular views of the 2,389 feet high Mount Suilven. Mailonline revealed earlier this month that Ruth is frequently seen waiting tables and serving food and drink when she's in the area, which she uses as an escape from her hectic work life. Georgia Riggins, 24, who works at Peet's restaurant said: 'Ruth has been known to do a couple of shifts in the restaurant when she's up here and we've been told that she's coming again in July. 'She's not been coming as much recently but that's because she's probably busy with her work. 'David comes up here more often. He's a lovely man and great to work for. Everybody around here knows how famous Ruth is and when's she's working in the restaurant is happy to pose for selfies with the tourists. But the locals don't bother her.' Ruth is often seen walking around the village enjoying its breath-taking scenery, popping into its only convenience store or visiting a van parked by the village hall to buy fish and locally caught langoustines. David McDonald, 51, who drives around the Highlands selling local seafood told MailOnline: 'I supply fish to Peet's, and Ruth has also come to my van to buy fish. I must admit that I've never watched Gavin and Stacey, but I know she's very famous and can tell you what fish she likes. 'It's very quiet and beautiful around here and couldn't be more different from Ruth's celebrity life. She's famous for her love of Wales but the Highlands are very dear to her too but not a lot of people know that.' David purchased the restaurant in 2014, the year after they bought their holiday home close by for £240,000. Their other home is a semi-detached mock Tudor semi overlooking leafy Roath Park in one of Cardiff's most sought after suburbs, worth over £1million, which they've lived in for 24 years.

Ruth Jones Speaks Out To Confirm Split From Husband David Peet After 25 Years
Ruth Jones has confirmed that she and her husband of more than 25 years, David Peet, have parted ways. In a joint statement released on Wednesday, the Gavin & Stacey star and TV, film and radio producer announced that they 'amicably went [their] separate ways 18 months ago and are now legally separated'. The pair insisted that they are still 'good friends' in the wake of their split, adding: 'Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship.' Ruth and David tied the knot in 1999, after which the Bafta winner became a stepmum to her now-ex's two children from a previous relationship. Over the course of their marriage, the two collaborated on a number of projects, most notably Gavin & Stacey and Stella, another British sitcom written by Ruth in which she also played the title role. Last year, Ruth reprised the role of Nessa Jenkins in the much-hyped Gavin & Stacey finale, which aired on Christmas Day. Ruth's character took centre stage in the episode, which earned her the Best Female Comedy Performance award at the TV Baftas last month. More than a decade earlier, she had been nominated in the same category for her work on Stella. Earlier this week, it was announced that work was underway on Ruth's next project, a period drama set in the same universe as Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice, called The Other Bennet Sister. The 10-part BBC series recently began shooting in Wales, with Ruth and Richard E Grant set to portray Mr And Mrs Bennet, alongside a cast that includes Call The Midwife and Bridgerton star Ella Bruccoleri in the main role as Mary Bennet. Doctor Who's Varada Sethu has also joined the show as a new character, Ann Baxter, first introduced in Janice Hadlow's novel of the same name. Hold on to your bonnets! Ruth Jones, Richard E. Gavin and Stacey star announces separation from partner after more than 25 years
A Gavin and Stacey icon has announced they have ended their marriage with their partner. Ruth Jones, known for her role as Nessa on the popular BBC show, has said she and her producer husband David Peet have legally separated. Jones, who co-created Gavin and Stacey with friend James Corden, married in 1999. Despite the split, they "remain good friends", the couple said in a statement. We remain good friends. 'Since our separation, Ruth is living in London and David is living in Canada, where he is in a new relationship.' Jones married Peet, a television and radio producer, in 1999. She is a stepmother to three children from his previous marriage. The Mirror reported that the pair met when she was working on a BBC Radio Wales series. Ruth Jones rose to fame as the co-writer and star of Gavin and Stacey. The BBC sitcom first aired in 2007 and tells the story of two families from Billericay in Essex and Barry in the Vale of Glamorgan, Wales. Jones played Vanessa 'Nessa' Jenkins in three series and three Christmas specials. The show's finale episode, which aired on Christmas Day last year, saw Jones's character Nessa marry Neil 'Smithy' Smith, played by fellow co-writer and close friend James Corden. At this year's TV Baftas, Jones won the best female performance in a comedy for her role in Gavin and Stacey. Jones has also appeared in ITV drama Fat Friends, BBC sketch show Little Britain, BBC sitcom Saxondale, and BBC black comedy Nighty Night. Other roles include playing Carry On star Hattie Jacques in a BBC biopic. In 2014, Jones was made a Member Of The Order Of The British Empire (MBE) in the New Year Honours for her services to entertainment. It was recently revealed that Jones has landed a role in a new BBC Drama series, which is currently being filmed in Wales. Jones will play Mrs Bennet in an adaptation of Janice Hadlow's novel The Other Bennet Sister for BBC One and BBC iPlayer. She will be joined in the series by the likes of Richard E. Grant (Saltburn, Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, Loki), Indira Varma (Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luther, The Night Manager) and Ella Bruccoleri (Call the Midwife, Bridgerton).
