Everton backed to complete 'perfect' Man Utd transfer for David Moyes

Everton could target Manchester United in the summer transfer window and one player would be a 'perfect match' for David Moyes if the Toffees were to get a deal over the line Everton should target a summer move for Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund according to their former player Pat Nevin. Hojlund has endured two difficult seasons since joining the Red Devils in a £72million deal from Atalanta. The 22-year-old scored 10 goals in 52 appearances last term as United struggled to find the net and 16 goals in 43 outings during his debut season in 2023/24. Ruben Amorim is looking to strengthen his forward line this summer having already added Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and the likes of Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen linked to transfers. ‌ Nevin, who played 150 games for the Toffees and scored 21 goals, reckons David Moyes would be able to prise the Denmark international away from Old Trafford on loan. And he believes the Everton boss will find a player well-suited to his style. ‌ Moyes will find himself short a striker as Dominic Calvert-Lewin's contract runs out at the end of June. And Nevin reckons the perfect solution is out there. Speaking to Spin Genie, the ex-Scotland international has urged Moyes to make a move. "There are some good names out there," said Nevin. "The loan market is something Everton have looked at in the past and I think it's something they should revisit again. It gives them all sorts of possibilities as they're not spending £50 million. "There are two or three players that they could think about bringing in from Manchester United but Rasmus Hojlund is the one that sticks out. If you look at his style of play, it's a perfect match with how David Moyes likes to play. While his numbers haven't been great this season, Moyes loves hard workers and that's something you can never complain about in regards to Hojlund. "It's not very often David Moyes has had a 20-30 goals-per-season striker. He's had strikers who run in behind and create space to bring others into play, so, if he's available, Hojlund could be a tempting option for Everton to sign on loan." ‌ Everton have already missed out on Liam Delap this summer, after the striker joined Chelsea. Moyes has admitted that the Toffees will need to find greater success to enjoy an easier time in the transfer market. 'Players, if they have the chance, want to play in the Champions League. I've just come out of a club ( West Ham United) where three out of four years we played in Europe and what a difference it makes when you're a club in Europe because the players are attracted, whatever European competition that is, is attractive to a lot of players and makes a big difference," he said. 'We're not at that at the moment so I don't know if I can compare us selling Wayne [Rooney] but we were always a club that didn't have a huge amount of money. We had to generate some money ourselves. 'But then, the club had £500million to spend and in that period and I don't think it was as good as when we spent carefully and were a little bit wiser." Man Utd star told to reject £38m transfer and join rival Premier League club

Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund has been told to reject a £38m move to Inter Milan in favour of joining another Premier League club. Hojlund has been heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford following his disappointing 2024-25 campaign. The Denmark international enjoyed a promising first season at United following a £72m move from Atalanta, scoring a respectable 16 goals in all competitions. But Hojlund went backwards last season, only contributing four goals in 32 Premier League appearances. Despite his struggles, Inter Milan are keen to bring Hojlund back to Italy this summer and have held talks with both the player and his club over a move. Hojlund is believed to be open to the switch but Manchester United are holding out for £38m, a transfer fee Inter have so far shown a reluctance to meet. The 22-year-old's openness to return to Serie A stems partly from the his lack of development at Old Trafford but also as United are expected to sign a new No. 9 this summer. Ruben Amorim was keen to sign Liam Delap from Ipswich Town before he made a £30m move to Chelsea and remains interested in a deal for his former Sporting Lisbon star Viktor Gyokeres. A summer move for Hojlund could therefore benefit all parties and the Dane has been told he could revive his career on loan at United's Premier League rivals Everton. Like Amorim, Toffees boss David Moyes has also drawn up a list of potential striker targets as Dominic Calvert-Lewin has reportedly decided to leave the club. Calvert-Lewin, 28, has been at Goodison Park for almost a decade, making over 250 appearances for the club and scoring 71 goals. Everton could use the loan market to bolster Moyes' attacking options and former Toffees winger Pat Nevin believes Hojlund would be the 'perfect match' for his former club. 'There are some good names out there,' Nevin, who played for Everton in the late 1980s and early 1990s, told Spin Genie. 'The loan market is something Everton have looked at in the past and I think it's something they should revisit again. It gives them all sorts of possibilities as they're not spending £50m. 'There are two or three players that they could think about bringing in from Manchester United but Rasmus Hojlund is the one that sticks out. Manchester United made Wolves playmaker Matheus Cunha their first summer signing and are currently working on a deal for Bryan Mbeumo. Amorim is desperate for significant investment after the Red Devils finished an embarrassing 15th in the Premier League last season. For more stories like this, check our sport page. Everton's Premier League fixtures: Full 2025-26 schedule and key dates

Everton begin the 2025-26 campaign away to newly-promoted Leeds United at Elland Road. The new season brings an end to Everton's men's side's 133-year stay at Goodison Park as they move to their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock. They will play their first Premier League game at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium against Brighton & Hove Albion on August 23. Advertisement The first Merseyside derby of the campaign takes place on September 20, before the reverse fixture on April 18. David Moyes' side conclude their campaign with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur. All times in BST/GMT There are probably easier starts to the season than Leeds United at Elland Road on a Monday night. Tougher ones too, no doubt, but you suspect the promoted side and their fans will be bang up for it. It's also an early return to west Yorkshire for Angus Kinnear, Everton's CEO who joined from Leeds at the end of last season. Brighton will be Everton's first competitive game at the new stadium in an opening run that also includes Wolverhampton Wanderers (away) and Aston Villa (home) before a late September trip to Anfield for the Merseyside derby. With so much to do in the market this summer, David Moyes' side will need to be ready to hit the ground running. December, seemingly as ever, contains one of the trickier runs — Bournemouth (away), two games against Nottingham Forest, plus Chelsea and Arsenal — while the run from mid-March to the end of the end of the season is also on the tougher side, culminating in a trip to Tottenham Hotspur on the final day. Everton fans have grown accustomed to scanning the fixture list for those final fixtures, looking for a winnable game in case the battle for survival goes to the wire. After the way the team ended last season, they will hope those matches carry weight for a different, altogether more positive reason next time around. The exceptional pre-Club World Cup transfer window opened on June 1 and closed nine days later on June 10. The summer window re-opened on June 16, while the cut-off date for the 2024-25 profitability and sustainability rules (PSR) reporting period coming at the end of the month on June 30. The window closes on Monday, September 1, at 11pm BST (6pm ET). Advertisement The winter transfer window opens on Thursday, January 1, and closes on Monday, February 2. The new Premier League season gets underway on the weekend of August 15-17, a week after the Community Shield on August 8, when league champions Liverpool face FA Cup winners Crystal Palace. The final match round will be played on Sunday, May 24, 2026, when all 10 matches will kick off simultaneously as usual. Premier League clubs will enter the FA Cup at the third round, which begins on Saturday, January 10. The Carabao Cup will begin in mid-August, with Premier League teams not playing in Europe entering in the second round, which starts in the week commencing August 25, and the remaining seven clubs receiving a bye to the third round, which takes place in the weeks commencing September 15 and 22.

Manchester United's Premier League fixtures: Full 2025-26 schedule and key dates

After a season to forget, Manchester United will be keen to start the 2025-26 campaign in far better fashion. They will kick off with a crunch home game against Arsenal in the pick of the opening-day fixtures. The Manchester derbies will take place at the Etihad Stadium on September 13 and at Old Trafford on January 17, with games against Liverpool October 18 (away) and May 2 (home). Advertisement After losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur, they will not feature in European competition in 2025-26. The last time United did not compete in Europe was in the 2014-15 season after David Moyes' seventh-placed finish in the previous campaign. Fans will hope that Ruben Amorim's promise that the 'good times are coming' after the final game of last term will ring true soon. All times in BST/GMT By Manchester United writer Carl Anka Manchester United's 2025-26 Premier League season will begin against Arsenal at Old Trafford. The match — currently scheduled for a 16.30 kick-off on August 17 — will likely be the most talked-about fixture from the opening weekend. Ruben Amorim's men will face difficult challenges in the early stages of the new campaign, with games at Fulham away and Burnley at home before the first Manchester Derby of the season: September 9 at the Etihad Stadium. That will be followed by a home game against Chelsea. The run represents the hardest five-game start of any Premier League team in 25-26. Season ticket-holders will be mindful of January 17, when the Manchester Derby returns to Old Trafford. United will first face Liverpool on October 18 at Anfield, with the reverse fixture occurring on May 2. The rivalry with Leeds United rekindles on January 3 at Elland Road, and again at Old Trafford on April 11. The club's final match before Christmas will be away to Aston Villa on December 20, before returning to league action on December 27 to face Newcastle at home. The campaign will conclude against Brighton away – a repeat of the finale from the 2023-24 season. The upcoming season will be United's first without European football since 2014–15.
