At the world premiere of Jurassic World: Rebirth in London's Leicester Square, Scarlett Johansson took a moment to speak directly to fans of the original Jurassic Park , promising the latest chapter captures the soul of what made Spielberg's 1993 classic so iconic. As a huige fan of the original film, that's great to hear! The film is directed by Rogue One 's Gareth Edwards, who Johansson described as an 'enormous fan' of Spielberg, and it's also written by David Koepp, the screenwriter who helped launch the franchise with Jurassic Park . This connection to the original creative team is what's giving fans hope that Rebirth is more than just another sequel, it's a return to form. Jonathan Bailey, also in attendance, described the experience as surreal. 'It's beyond a dream. Jurassic Park was the first film I saw with my family when I was five years old, and they're all inside so we're going to sit and watch it today.' Bailey revealed he also contributed musically, performing on the soundtrack with a full 105-piece orchestra. 'Going to Abbey Road… playing the John Williams score but also Alexandre Desplat's score was incredible, it was completely out of body.' Meanwhile, Edwards recalled how the project came to him not through industry buzz but via a text from his girlfriend. 'She sent me a text which was a news article about Universal looking for a director for Jurassic and as I carried on the call I just copied and pasted it and sent it to my agent and wrote 'Is this stupid?' And we're going to find out the answer tonight.' Set five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion , Rebirth explores a planet still adjusting to the aftermath of dinosaurs re-entering the ecosystem. With most of the surviving creatures isolated in tropical zones, the plot follows a breakthrough involving three genetically unique dinosaurs whose DNA might be the key to a world-changing cure. Nobody Is Talking About the Secret Weapon of 'Jurassic World Rebirth'
While much of the buzz about summer movies is being dominated by Superman and The Fantastic Four, there's another massive movie sneaking up. The seventh film in the Jurassic franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth, will hit theaters on July 2, 2025, and will certainly be the go-to movie to see during the Fourth of July holiday weekend. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla) and stars Scarlett Johansson, who has been hyping the movie with hilarious and brilliant videos, with one featuring dinosaur toys and ASMR. The movie is also currently tracking for a $125 million box office opening, according to The Hollywood Reporter. None of these reasons is really why Jurassic World Rebirth is so interesting. In fact, one detail about the movie seems to be flying under the radar, and only being discussed by the most hardcore cinephiles and Jurassic fans. The reason to get excited about Rebirth is for the simple fact that this is the first Jurassic film since 1997 written by David Koepp. Back in 1993, it was Koepp who adapted the Michael Crichton novel into the screenplay for Jurassic Park, and other than The Lost World: Jurassic Park, he hasn't penned any Jurassic scripts since. But now, Koepp is back. During the red carpet premiere of Jurassic World Rebirth on Tuesday, Koepp said that the goal of the new film was to "recapture" some of the feeling of the 1993 film, but that "it had to also feel new," according to an interview from HeyUGuys. He also noted that in collaborating with Steven Spielberg that "we knew audience expectations were high, ours were even higher." Koepp's track record of writing amazing blockbusters is impressive. From War of the Worlds to The Mummy, to his year's Black Bag, he's a machine of blockbuster ideas, and his return to the Jurassic franchise might signal that the secret sauce to making an exciting dinosaur movie is one of his scripts. Also, during the Jurassic World Rebirth premiere, Johansson made it clear that fans of the 1993 film have a lot to look forward to this time out. Written by Jurassic Park and Lost World wordsmith David Koepp, Rebirth takes place five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion (which is currently streaming on Peacock in case you need a refresher). While most of the escaped dinosaurs have begun to die off as a result of our modern and inhospitable climate, there is one dino-biome left on Ile Saint-Hubert, InGen's research facility for the original Jurassic Park, along the equator. That was something David and I talked about a lot. What is missing from Zora's life? She's made so many sacrifices for others; what is she ready to do for herself?" And Manuel was able to find a tone for playing that that elevated the part and made Reuben and his relationships really interesting. There are so many shots in this film where I just want to hug him because he's conveying so much with so few lines of dialogue." 'She was cute and so realistic. When I first read the script, I had to do some research online, to see what an Aquilops looks like so I could visualize her while I rehearsed. When I finally met her, it was like the animatronics team who made Dolores turned those pictures into reality. Having Dolores on set was very helpful because it put me in the mind of Isabella and felt like I had a real dinosaur to interact with.' 'It didn't really require too much of my imagination to get into the world of this movie because of the places where we filmed,' Iacono says. 'The jungles and caves of Thailand, sailing on the Mediterranean Sea, it was all so unreal, and you could sink into the environments and just focus on the relationships and the words." 'I was out having dinner and Gareth called me to say, 'We only have six weeks to design all our dinosaurs. We're going to need an army of artists,'" recalls VFX supervisor David Vickery. "The next day, I was on a Zoom call with over 50 amazingly talented concept artists from around the world. Within a week, we had over 700 pieces of concept art for Gareth to start looking through. Gareth is so smart about design, he has an uncanny ability to look at hundreds of images and very quickly focus down on the elements he likes from each concept.
