India's silence makes India weak: Pawan Khera slams Centre over silence on Israel-Iran conflict

New Delhi [India], June 23 (ANI): Raising questions on India's silence over Iran-Israel tensions and US' attack on Iran's nuclear facilities, Congress leader Pawan Khera said that India's 'silence' will make it 'weak'. Pawan Khera further mentioned that it is very 'surprising' that India has not upheld its role, which it has always played in Western Asia's disturbances. The Congress leader stressed that Israel continued bombing different countries after killing innocent civilians in Gaza, but no one understands why India is silent over the issue. 'The surprising thing is that India is not seen to be living up to the role it has always played in disturbing West Asia. No one understands why India is silent. After Gaza, where so many innocent civilians were killed, Israel is continuously bombing, bombing different countries, India remained silent. America displayed its entire air power on Iran, India remained silent. India's silence makes India weak', Pawan Khera told ANI. Furthermore, he emphasised that India has always played a 'peace keeping and constructive role' in West Asia. Pawan Khera asked why India is abdicating its 'moral responsibility' in West Asia, due to which people are also looking at India's answers. The latter asserted that India should have stood by its 'traditional' friends and the government must have ensured that it talks with the right people on the right time and in right tone. 'India has always had a peace keeping and constructive role in West Asia. Why is India abdicating its moral authority in this region? People are looking at should have exercised its moral authority, stood by its traditional friends and partners, and ensured that the government talks to the right people at the right time in the right tone', Pawan Khera said. Earlier, CPI general secretary D Raja questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the issue. He said that he must call his 'friend', US President Donald Trump, to stop bombing Iran, citing that it is a violation of the UN charter. 'The Communist Party of India, all the Left parties and all the peace-loving forces in India condemn the US bombing of Iran. PM Modi has not uttered a word condemning the US bombing of Iran. He must call his friend Donald Trump and ask him to stop the bombing of Iran, as it is a violation of the UN charter. The PM should demonstrate the moral authority of India that the country opposes US-Israel continuing war on Iran. Why is PM Modi not condemning this?', D Raja told ANI. (ANI)

"Consulting all left parties; will come out with strong statement condemning US bombing on Iran": CPI's D Raja

Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 22 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja on Sunday condemned the recent United States airstrikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'silence' on the matter. Speaking to ANI, Raja said that the CPI is in talks with other left parties of India to formulate a united response condemning US strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities and PM Modi's silence on the matter. 'Our party is consulting all other left parties in India. We are going to come out with a strong statement condemning the US bombing on Iran, condemning Modi's silence and not opening his mouth to utter a word expressing our country's policy...' D Raja said. The US struck Iran's three nuclear sites -Natanz, Isfahan and Fordow- on early Sunday and warned Tehran of further retaliation if peace is not achieved. Rafael Grossi, the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said that an emergency meeting would take place on Monday in light of the developments taking place in West Asia. Earlier in the day, the IAEA confirmed that there has been no reported increase in off-site radiation levels following the strikes. 'Following attacks on three nuclear sites in Iran -- including Fordow -- the IAEA can confirm that no increase in off-site radiation levels has been reported as of this time. IAEA will provide further assessments on the situation in Iran as more information becomes available,' the agency said in a statement. Iran condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law and vowed to continue its nuclear program. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the US military action, stating that Trump's bold decision to target Iranian nuclear facilities will change history. Meanwhile, India continues its evacuation efforts for Indian nationals in Iran, with multiple flights planned to bring back Indians from the conflict-hit region. (ANI)

"Was it maintenance failure?" CPI's D Raja seeks objective probe into Air India plane crash

New Delhi [India], June 16 (ANI): CPI General Secretary D Raja on Monday demanded an objective investigation into the Air India passenger plane crash in Ahmedabad, questioning whether the accident resulted from aircraft maintenance failures, airport mismanagement, or runway issues. 'What happened in Ahmedabad was a tragic accident -- a very tragic incident involving Air India. The Dreamliner and Air India as a whole are considered the pride of the nation. How could such an accident happen? Was there a failure in aircraft maintenance, airport or runway management? We don't know yet,' Raja told ANI. 'The government has ordered a high-level inquiry, and that inquiry must carry out an objective investigation to find the cause -- whether it was a technical issue or a ground maintenance failure,' he added. Earlier in the day, a team from Boeing and the officials of the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) arrived in Ahmedabad to inspect the site of the Air India plane crash. An investigation is underway to find the reasons that led to the tragic incident on June 12. The London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft crashed into a hostel complex shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, killing 241 passengers and crew, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. Earlier today, an expert from the UK who reached the Air India Plane Crash site in Ahmedabad to conduct an inspection, said, 'Maybe we will be able to speak saw what you guys can just the same, as you can see from here.' Meanwhile, the Additional Medical Superintendent of Ahmedabad's Civil Hospital said on Monday that the DNA sample matches in the Air India plane crash have reached 92, corresponding to 87 individuals, due to some duplication. Speaking to the media, Dr Rajnish Patel said that 47 bodies have been dispatched to various districts so far. 'Of the bodies brought to Civil Hospital, DNA matching of 92 (body remains) is completed, of this (the number of) individuals is 87 because there is duplication. 47 bodies have been dispatched from have been dispatched to Kheda, Ahmedabad, Kota, Mahesana, Bharuch, Vadodara, Aravalli, Anand, Junagarh, Bhavnagar, Amreli, Mahisagar and Bhavnagar,' Dr Patel said. 'No information about INDIA bloc meeting...': CPI Gen Sec D Raja

New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): CPI General Secretary D Raja alleged that he received no information regarding the INDIA bloc meeting at the Constitutional Club, New Delhi, today. He said that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge had not informed him about the meeting. Speaking to ANI, D Raja said, 'I have no information about any meeting of the INDIA bloc. I have got no information from either Mr Kharge or Mr Rahul Gandhi. The media is reporting on a meeting of the opposition parties.' A group of INDIA bloc leaders is meeting at the Constitution Club today after more than 200 MPs from the Lok Sabha signed a letter to PM Modi calling for a Special Session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor. D Raja supported the demand for a Special Session of Parliament, alleging that Prime Minister Modi has not said anything on the ceasefire statement by US President Donald Trump. 'As the Communist Party of India, we have been consistently demanding a special session of Parliament to discuss Operation Sindoor and related questions. The PM has not yet uttered a word about what Mr Trump said. I don't know whether or not Mr Modi and his government will agree to a special session of Parliament,' he said. Earlier, Opposition leaders demanded a Special Session regarding Operation Sindoor. RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to call a special session of Parliament to discuss the recent cross-border military operations against Pakistan. In his letter, Jha said the people of India feel they are being 'kept in the dark,' and deserve clarity on the government's decisions and their broader impact. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge demanded a special session of Parliament concerning Operation Sindoor, alleging that the government had 'misled the nation.' CPI (Marxist) General Secretary MA Baby also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to convene a special session of Parliament to address the de-escalation of hostilities with Pakistan. "Will support impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma": CPI's D Raja

New Delhi [India], May 28 (ANI): Amid reports of the Centre considering an impeachment motion against Justice Yashwant Varma over allegations of unaccounted money recovered from his residence, CPI General Secretary D Raja on Wednesday said that credibility of judiciary needs to be restored and his party will support the action against Justice Varma. 'Let them bring the impeachment motion. The Judiciary should understand that it has to work within the framework of the Constitution... To restore the credibility of our judiciary, there must be some strong action. We will support the impeachment motion. But the point is, when will it be brought in? We raised several critical questions about the money found in the judge's residence, but concrete action has been delayed... Our party will participate in the debate before the Parliament when this issue is discussed,' Raja told ANI. Earlier this month, the Supreme Court refused to entertain a plea seeking the registration of an FIR against Justice Yashwant Varma over the allegations. A bench led by Justice Abhay S Oka suggested that the petitioner, Advocate Mathews J Nedumpara, should first file a representation to the Prime Minister and the President of India before approaching the Supreme Court. 'File representation before those authorities first calling them to take action, then file writ seeking mandamus', the bench stated before dismissing the plea. The Court noted that, according to a press release issued by the Supreme Court on May 8, the in-house inquiry committee has submitted its report, which has since been forwarded to the Prime Minister and the President of India. The Court was not inclined to consider the submissions in the plea, as it was of the view that the matter had already been initiated as per the official procedure. 'You don't know the contents of the report (inquiry committee report), even we don't know. The CJI has sent the report to the Prime Minister and President', Justice Oka stated. The Court thus suggested that the counsel file a representation before those aforesaid authorities first, before moving a petition in the Supreme Court seeking directions. On May 4, a panel of judges tasked with conducting an internal inquiry into allegations of cash being discovered at Justice Yashwant Varma's official residence submitted its report to the then Chief Justice of India, Sanjiv Khanna.
