Aspirants demand clarity on TGT/ PGT exam dates
1 2 Prayagraj: Scores of competitive exam aspirants staged a protest at the Uttar Pradesh Secondary Education Service Selection Board (UPSESSB) office in Prayagraj on Tuesday demanding clarity on the long-pending TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) and PGT (Post Graduate Teacher) examinations. The demonstration was organised in response to repeated postponements of the 2022 recruitment exams, originally announced in June 2022 for 4,163 posts, including 3,539 TGT and 624 PGT vacancies in aided secondary schools across the state. The PGT exam was deferred three times and the TGT exam twice. While the TGT exam is tentatively scheduled on July 21 and 22, the dates for the PGT examination, initially proposed for late Aug, are yet to be officially confirmed. Protesters raised slogans demanding transparency, timely examinations and accountability from the board. A delegation of students also submitted an eight-point memorandum to the board officials. Controller of Examinations, DP Singh, said: "The commission is in touch with the govt and soon things will be clearer." The aspirants put forward several key demands, including the immediate announcement of new advertisements for TGT-PGT recruitment, finalisation and declaration of exam dates for the recruitment cycle, non-BEd candidates should be allowed to appear for the PGT examination, and prompt declaration of written exam results under Advertisement No. 51 for assistant professors, etc. They warned of intensifying their agitation if their concerns are not addressed in a timely manner. A group of aspirants of LT grade and staff nurse also met the UPPSC officials on Tuesday.

UPESSC defers PGT recruitment exam
The Post-Graduate Teacher (PGT) Recruitment Exam-2022, earlier scheduled for June 18 and 19 for filling up vacant teaching posts in government-aided secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh, has been postponed, leaving more than 4.6 lakh candidates waiting for the examination for the past three years disappointed yet again. After a meeting on Tuesday, the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) decided to postpone the examination due to 'unavoidable reasons', officials confirmed. According to information by examination controller DP Singh, the written exam will now be conducted in the last week of August. The revised schedule will be announced soon through newspapers and the official website ( Singh said. The delay was anticipated after the commission failed to release the list of cities having exam centres by June 9, ten days before the scheduled dates. As many as 4,64,605 candidates had applied online in 2022 for the exam to fill up 624 vacant PGT posts. Earlier in the day, several aspirants staged a protest at the UPESSC office over the delay and demanded that the examination be conducted as scheduled. The candidates surrounded the car of Harendra Rai, a member of the commission, who arrived for a meeting. Later, deputy secretary Shivji Malviya told the protesting candidates that the examination had been postponed due to unavoidable reasons and that it would be conducted in August.

Calcutta HC grants interim bail to law student Sharmistha Panoli, father expresses happiness
Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], June 6 (ANI): Law student Sharmistha Panoli, arrested for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through a social media post, has been granted interim bail by the Calcutta High Court on Thursday. The court directed her to cooperate with the investigation, not leave the country, and furnished bail on a personal bond of Rs 10,000. The court also ordered appropriate police protection for her. Her father, Prithviraj Panoli, expressed relief, citing her health issues, including kidney problems and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Prithviraj Panoli said, 'I am very happy... no father would like his daughter to stay in jail. Her mother was crying for a long time, but she is very happy now. There were two concerns: his kidney problem and Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). She needs regular medicine, but since we didn't have a prescription, the medicine wasn't given in jail.' 'Also, when the video was posted, we found out after two days and told her to delete it. We hoped this would be a lesson for her, and that she would do better in the future,' Panoli said. According to Sharmistha's lawyer, DP Singh, bail was granted on three conditions: Sharmistha must surrender her passport, cooperate with the investigation, and sign a bail bond. DP Singh argued that Sharmistha is a victim of circumstances and that her social media post was a defence of her country based on videos she had seen. He questioned the severity of the response, suggesting that the community's reaction was disproportionate to her actions. Speaking to ANI, Advocate DP Singh said, 'She has got bail on 3 conditions, that she will surrender her passport, she will join the investigation and sign a bail is happening right now in the country is wrong. You just arrest speak what they see, their exposure is she said, she said it based on the videos she children don't know is a fight between India & Pakistan and they are just defending their country, so in such a situation... if we remove the clip of 5-10 seconds, she didn't say anything is a victim of circumstances...a whole community has stood up against is not like a riot took place because of what she said, so why is she being punished?' West Bengal Assembly Leader of Opposition and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari said, 'Justice has been served today.' In a post on X, Suvendu Adhikari said, 'Justice has been served today - Sharmistha Panoli, a law student, aged about 22 years, has been released on interim bail by the Hon'ble High Court at Calcutta.' He called her arrest 'police atrocities' and said she was wrongly arrested for exercising her right to free speech. He accused Kolkata Police of acting to please political leaders. 'This is a case of police atrocities as an innocent young lady, for using her freedom of speech and expression, has been illegally arrested by the Kolkata Police and was sent to judicial custody. This is yet another example of police overzealousness and eagerness to please their political masters,' the post reads. Meanwhile, BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul and West Bengal BJP Legal Cell member Sanjukta Samanta filed an FIR against Wazahat Khan, who filed an FIR against Sharmistha Panoli, at two Police Stations, Ballygunje Police Station, Kolkata and Howrah Police Station. Paul said there should be equal rights and rules for every community. Speaking to ANI, Agnimitra Paul said, 'Yes, I have filed a police complaint against Wazahat Khan, who filed a police complaint against Sharmistha Panoli. I believe that Dr BR Ambedkar Ji's constitution is applicable in West Bengal, and there should be equal rights and rules for every Khan, who complained against Sharmistha Panoli, had posted an abusive post against our goddess Maa Kamakhya and Lord Krishna. If a Muslim is insulting my god and goddess, the same action needs to be taken for Wazahat Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma has sent his police force to arrest Wazahat Khan, Mamata Banerjee's police, because of her Muslim appeasement, have been hiding and shielding Wazahat Khan...' The 22-year-old law student from Pune, Sharmistha Panoli, was arrested by Kolkata Police in Gurugram on May 30, for allegedly hurting religious sentiments with a video on Operation Sindoor. The Instagram clip was reportedly derogatory towards a particular religion. However, Panoli had deleted the video and issued an apology on May 15. (ANI)

NEW DELHI: as the then railway minister exerted excessive pressure on ministry officials to clear the applications of Group-D job applicants who gifted land parcels or sold them at dirt cheap rates to him and his family in exchange for railway jobs, CBI told a Delhi court Monday. Lalu's family acquired over 1 lakh sqft of land for just Rs 26 lakh against Rs 4.39 crore circle rate of the property, it alleged. The agency stressed the fact that multiple applications were cleared the same day while there was no advertisement for the vacancies. "Look at the speed. It is such a tedious process... How can so many applications in bulk be decided instantly? No justification was given to hire substitutes," special public prosecutor DP Singh told the court. CBI alleged discrepancies in the documents submitted by those given the jobs.
