Middle-East Conflict: Who is Mossad's ‘Female Spy' Behind Irans Destruction?
Israel-Iran Tensions: As both nations continue exchanging aerial strikes, Iran's intelligence agencies and Israel's Mossad are engaged in the tensions as well, and over the past 24 hours, one name has reportedly surfaced. That face is of a female Mossad agent dubbed the 'Lady Killer' in Iran. But who is this operative, and how did she allegedly become a game-changer for Israel in Tehran? In today's DNA, Rahul Sinha, Managing Editor of Zee News, analysed the alleged female spy of Israel's agency: Watch Full DNA Episode Here: #DNAWithRahulSinha | मोसाद की 'लेडी किलर' का 'ऑपरेशन ईरान'. — Zee News (@ZeeNews) June 20, 2025 Over the last eight days, nine top Iranian military commanders — from army chiefs to IRGC leaders — have been eliminated by Israel. Every time, Israeli jets targeted the exact building where these officials were present, delivering fatal strikes. Faced with the loss of so many senior commanders, Iranian intelligence went on high alert. Once they began connecting the dots between these strikes, one name emerged — Katherine Perez Sheked. Iranian intelligence discovered that Mossad had planted a female spy named Katherine in Tehran, and it was through her that Mossad had been allegedly receiving pinpoint information on the top Iranian military leadership. The Iranian agencies have not captured her. According to VAJA, Iran's intelligence agency, the "spy" is a French national trained by Mossad. After completing her training, she came to Iran and expressed interest in Shia Islam. Katherine even converted, after which she started moving among the wives of senior Iranian officers. Visiting their homes and winning their trust, she quietly began gathering intelligence on Iran's top commanders. Katherine kept sending this information to Mossad, which then directed the Israeli air force to the precise locations where Iranian commanders would be. Other Female Spies In History Intelligence agencies have reportedly used women operatives worldwide for complex missions. First on that list is Indian-origin Noor Inayat Khan. During World War II, Noor joined Britain's SOE and was sent to Nazi-occupied Paris to relay information from the French resistance. From June to September 1943, she carried out her work in secret until she was eventually arrested by German forces. In 1944, she was executed. After World War II, during the Cold War, the CIA relied on a spy named Yona Montague. A former bank employee, she was placed in banks across Eastern Europe — then under Soviet influence — and supplied vital information to the CIA for 15 years. She was never caught and retired from the agency in 1993. And during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War, there was Heba Selim, an Egyptian who spied for Mossad. After marrying an Egyptian officer, she passed on critical information — including air defense layouts — to Mossad, allowing Israel to inflict serious damage. Heba was eventually caught by Egyptian police in 1974 and executed alongside her husband.

Bid to help families results in discovery
Louise Bicknell. PHOTO: SUPPLIED A journey to help 10 New Zealand families get answers for rare brain disorders affecting their children has led to the discovery of the genetic cause. Co-author and associate professor at the University of Otago Rare Disorder Genetics Laboratory Louise Bicknell said the discovery shed new light on the "incredibly complex" process by which human bodies created the "instruction manuals" essential for building and maintaining our brains. "Our bodies rely on a precise process called 'splicing', to read and process genetic instructions from our DNA and help generate the building blocks required in our body. "While it's known that problems with the machinery that co-ordinates splicing can cause various genetic disorders, this new finding adds to a small but growing recognition of the potential severe impact on brain development in particular." The research team studied 10 New Zealand families impacted by a severe genetic disorder that resulted in affected individuals having profound pre- and postnatal microcephaly (smaller head circumference), with pontocerebellar hypoplasia (underdevelopment in brain stem and cerebellum), seizures and severe intellectual disability. The findings, published in the American Journal of Human Genetics, pinpointed specific changes in a gene called CRNKL1. "Our journey to this discovery began here in New Zealand, through trying to help New Zealand families get answers for genetic disorders affecting their children," Prof Bicknell said. "Then, using our international connections, we were able to identify other families around the world, which was crucial for confirming our findings and understanding the full impact of these genetic changes." In a striking discovery, nine of these families showed genetic changes in the exact same spot in the CRNKL1 gene, she said. All the affected children shared the same severe features, highlighting the strong link between these specific genetic changes and the disorder. Lead author and postdoctoral fellow at the University of Otago Rare Disorder Genetics Laboratory Dr Sankalita Ray Das said the research showed CRNKL1 was crucial for healthy brain development, and that specific parts of the splicing machine had highly specialised roles — far more intricate than scientists previously thought. She said the finding also offered further clues into the complex ways human genes guided brain development.

Forensic lab boss is suspended in scandal over contaminated DNA samples
The director of a state-run forensic testing lab has been suspended by Queensland government in the latest scandal over botched DNA sampling. It follows a pause in testing at Forensic Science Queensland sparked by the identification of contamination issues, Attorney-General Deb Frecklington said on Friday. 'This action was taken following advice I received today that (Forensic Science Queensland) was placing a general pause on routine DNA testing after contamination issues were identified,' she said. The pause will be reviewed after seven days as the lab determines next steps and laboratory director Dr Linzi Wilson-Wilde will be asked to explain why she should not be removed. Urgent matters will progress in a limited capacity with appropriate controls, Ms Frecklington said. Forensic Science Queensland was established in 2023 following multiple inquiries, one of which revealed a 'fundamentally flawed' automated DNA extraction method might have led to offenders potentially escaping conviction for nine years from 2007. Many samples went untested while others were incorrectly ruled insufficient, an earlier inquiry found. The inquiries also elicited characterisations of a 'toxic' culture at the state-run forensic lab. More than 40,000 samples fell within the scope of a historical review process, of which close to 10,000 had been reviewed as of May. Ms Wilson-Wilde was appointed director in September after serving as interim chief executive. Dr Wilson-Wilde was stepping into 'what will undoubtedly be a very challenging role', Ms Frecklington said at the time. Following news of the testing pause, Ms Frecklington moved to immediately suspend her, pending a show cause notice for removal. 'I want to assure Queenslanders the Crisafulli government remains firmly committed to fixing the long-standing issues at Forensic Science Queensland,' she said.
