A YOUNG woman has revealed that she didn't want to break the bank on a posh birthday cake, so transformed a Morrisons buy herself. The pretty cake cerves 20 and is priced at just £15. Showing off the delicious supermarket cake, Abbs explained: 'Let's decorate a Vintage Heart Cake for my 28th birthday tomorrow. 'I started by adding a border of a lighter pink frosting to match the writing that I was going to put in the centre. I put this on both the top and side of the cake. 'I then added some edible pearls and some cocktail cherries with stems.' Abbs confirmed that she bought the cherries from Amazon, and you'll also find the same edible pearls that she used on Amazon too. Following this, she continued: 'I piped a bit of icing on to keep the cherries in place. ALL parents want to create a magical birthday for their little ones, but the truth is costs can quickly add up, especially if you want a posh cake. That's why one mum decided to take matters into her own hands instead of forking out hundreds for a professionally made character cake. 3 3 3 She took to the popular Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group to show off her "Stitch cake done cheap." The glorious cake looked like it could've cost a fortune, but thanks to a few savvy supermarket buys the entire thing came to just £25. And amazingly, she didn't even have to bake anything, so her DIY creation is perfect for a baking novice. First, she snapped up the pink drip cake from Asda for just £14. Although the trendy cake looked great on its own, the mum decided to go all out with her DIY cake design, so headed to Tesco to bag some more bargains. To surround the main cake, she bought cupcakes for £4, as well as a cake base for £1.50. To add to the base and main cake she snapped up loads of pink and blue sweets, which she piled high. And the cherry on top was a Stitch cake topper, which she ordered from eBay for £5. After a little time sorting everything out, the finished cake could've fooled anyone into thinking it took hours and cost a fortune. So, it's no surprise other Facebook users were amazed by the creation too. I DIY-ed a ‘professional' level kids' birthday cake for less than £25 using Amazon & eBay buys – I didn't bake a thing
A MUM has been praised after showing how she transformed a supermarket kids' birthday cake into a "professional" level masterpiece. Ellena, a mum-of-three, wanted something special to mark daughter Gabriella's big day, at a party they were throwing for her and her school friends. 6 6 But instead of forking out for a professional to make a cake for her little girl, she decided to give it a go herself. She took to TikTok to share a look at the process, which she began with a mermaid cake she'd picked up from Tesco for £16. Ellena began with some edible glitter dust, which she sprinkled over the top of the cake for some "extra sparkle". Next up, some "mermaid sprinkles" from Amazon. "You get mermaid tails, you get mermaid shells, beads, you get loads of little different bits in the bottle," Ellena said. "I also put all the colorful beads all the way round like a rainbow type just to make it a little bit different," she said. As the transformation continued, she admitted it made her consider a career change. "This is when I realised that I was actually really enjoying it and just thought to myself, hold on, can I start making cakes?!" For a finishing touch, Ellena popped in a personalised topper she'd bought from eBay. "Here it is - her fifth birthday cake from Tesco with a personalised touch," she said.
