Catch these 5 massive movies in Dubai this summer

If heading to the mall is on the top of your 'Ways to escape summer' plans, why not add in a movie to your shopping experience? Over the next few months, there are a number of top movies being released, giving you the perfect excuse to sit back, relax, and enjoy some entertainment in the cool AC. Here are 5 movies you don't want to miss this summer in Dubai F1 Release date: June 26 Formula 1 fans, time to take your place on the grid as F1 finally roars into theatres on June 26. The movie which took four years to produce, is directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on Top Gun: Maverick . It stars Brad Pitt, Damson Idris and even the current Formula 1 drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, Lando Norris, Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly. The movie follows Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), a promising driver who had an accident that nearly ended his career. 30 years later, the owner of a struggling Formula 1 team convinces him to return to racing and become 'the best in the world.' Driving alongside the team's hotshot, Sonny learns the road to redemption is not an easy task, and not one to travel alone. Will Formula 1 fans give this movie the champagne celebration it deserves, or will it be a 'DNF'? We will have to wait and see. Keep your eyes peeled as some of the scenes were shot in our very own Abu Dhabi. PS. Our review of the movie will be out shortly after its release, so stay tuned. Get your tickets here. Jurassic World Rebirth Release date: July 3 For fans of the franchise…our terrifying, scaly friends are back on the big screen this July. Now in its seventh installment, the roaring action of Jurassic Park Rebirth takes place several years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion . We will join a team of scientists heading to a remote island on a mission to secure some genetic material that could possibly be a medical breakthrough that could save thousands of lives. If you thought the dinosaurs from past editions were scary, well… you'd be wrong. The ones on this island were deemed too dangerous for the original park, and we are about to meet them…and something a lot more disturbing. The movie stars Scarlett Johanson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey and Rupert Friend. Get your tickets here. Superman Release date: July 10 If you're out of touch with this iconic DC Comics character, thankfully you don't need to start from scratch, as director James Gunn has designed it to be a fresh starting point for new viewers. We bid a teary farewell to Henry Cavill and welcome David Corenswet who soared into action, taking over the blue and red suit. The plot, however (and as with most superhero movies), is hard to pinpoint. What we do know is Clark Kent is working as a reporter at the Daily Planet newspaper with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan), and he is trying to live a normal life, or at least a balanced one. But are things really that simple? He faces trouble when Lex Luthor – a smart and powerful enemy – comes in his way. While we're obviously used to seeing Superman dominate in the 'good versus evil' theme, this movie showcases a Superman that is driven by compassion with an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind. Get your tickets here. The Naked Gun Release date: July 15 Remember protagonist Detective Sergeant Frank Drebin (Leslie Nielsen)? How could you forget him? The bumbling police lieutenant – without a doubt – bought the giggles with his performance in The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad as he somehow managed to save the day without even realising it. And now… 27 years later, we are being gifted a reboot. Meet Frank Drebin Jr (Liam Neeson), the son of Frank Drebin. He too, is a bumbling cop. What can we say… like father, like son. Drebin Junior's quirky police department is in danger of being shut down unless he can crack a major case. He teams up with Beth (played by the one and only Pamela Anderson) to solve her brother's murder… but not without stumbling through it all. Expect the classic gags, nods to the original movie, and modern twists. It's pure, chaotic, old-school comedy. James Gunn Shuts Down Hopes for Guillermo del Toro's JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK Movie — GeekTyrant

For years, fans have imagined what a Guillermo del Toro-directed Justice League Dark movie would've looked like. A gothic dream team of Constantine, Jason Blood, Zatanna, Swamp Thing, and Deadman wrapped in the filmmaker's signature visual flair. With James Gunn now steering the ship at DC Studios, some hoped that project might finally take shape. Unfortunately, according to Gunn himself, that's just not happening. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn addressed the long-whispered possibility of reviving del Toro's abandoned Justice League Dark project. Gunn said: 'By the way, Guillermo's never said that to me. I hear all these things about, 'Guillermo would love to do Justice League Dark. Well, Guillermo's never said that to me. 'Just let Steven Spielberg do his Blackhawks movie that he wants to do!' Steven Spielberg, who I love above anyone else, has never said that to me. 'So these things get blown out of proportion. Years and years ago, I said I wanted to make a Thunderbolts movie. I was in a convention somewhere, and somebody asked me, 'What did I want to do that wasn't Guardians of the Galaxy?' I said Thunderbolts. 'And for years and years, it's like, 'James Gunn should be allowed to make his Thunderbolts movie.' I have a million things that I thought I wanted to do in certain moments.' Del Toro did spend a chunk of time developing a Justice League Dark film years ago, and his affection for DC's monsters and magical misfits is no secret. But, that project officially fizzled out in 2018, and nothing solid has emerged since, not from del Toro, not from J.J. Abrams' Bad Robot, which was also attached to a version of the story at one point. It's a shame. Del Toro's passion for the material and his history with comic book films make him a natural fit for the darker, weirder corners of the DC universe, and considering his recent run of critically acclaimed films like Nightmare Alley , Pinocchio , and the upcoming Frankenstein , it's not like he lacks the clout to do it. But, he hasn't reached out to Gunn about it, so Del Toro has clearly moved on from DC. Still, all hope may not be lost. Gunn has been clear that DC Studios will continue to explore standalone Elseworlds projects, films that operate outside the shared continuity, like Joker or The Batman. Del Toro once offered up some information on his unmade Justice League Dark project, saying: "I took a little bit of the opening of the Alan Moore Constantine. And I took the dynamics between [Abby Arcane] and Swamp Thing, and I took the sort of revelatory moments when Deadman gets into a body, how he would experience the consciousness of that being. 'And one of my all time favorites is the demon Etrigan. I love that character. You know, so you try to put them together ... Zatanna is really, for me, another character that is really effortlessly powerful and interesting. Trying to mix that with Klarion the Witch Boy ... I was a DC guy." If del Toro ever does express renewed interest, maybe there's a path forward under that banner. But for now, Justice League Dark remains a ghost story in the halls of unrealized superhero cinema.

James Gunn On Superman's Scene Being Called Superimposed: ‘I Didn't Love The Shot'

Last Updated: James Gunn revealed Superman's viral flying scene is not part of the upcoming movie. Superman director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn revealed how the honest opinions of fans and movie buffs aren't always overlooked. It was after several clips and trailers of the highly anticipated movie, Superman, were released that social media users pointed towards a specific moment in one of the clips. It featured a flying David Corenswet, decked up in his on-screen Superman character's costume, which caught many eyes. In a recent interview, James Gunn was asked about the moment in the Superman clip featuring David Corenswet's flight, which, according to many, was no less than a 'CG superimposed thing." To this, the Superman director admitted the clip 'kind of got by" him. Contrary to many other creatives like him in the field, Gunn explained that he was somewhat aware of the fan reactions to his works. Further, Gunn, who is known to shoot extra footage for promotional content of the upcoming movie's release, responded, 'No, I don't think it was so much. It was a TV commercial, and it wasn't a finished visual effects shot." 'So the part of him flying, it was a photograph of his face and him flying," Gunn described the creative aspect shot being used in the clip, adding, 'It was a photograph of a drone flying in front of an actual background. So all the pieces were real, but it was incorporated in kind of a funky way." Although he highlighted the techniques being applied to the shot, Gunn was personally not much impressed with the same, 'I didn't love the shot, so it's not even the shot that's in the movie," he clarified. Further, opening up about his cinematic visions, he disclosed, 'Sometimes I'm pretty strict about when I'm going through a trailer and looking at each of the shots, but sometimes, the commercials, I forget to look at this closely. So that one kind of got by me." Based on the DC Studios co-CEO's statements, it seems that the clip featuring David Corenswet's flight is reportedly a part of the extra content being shot for the trailers and others. FYI: The moment referenced in the interview is when Corenswet takes off a flight at the last 4 seconds of the 30-second video that caught everyone's attention and became a part of a huge discussion on X. The American superhero film based on the eponymous character Superman from DC Comics is set for a theatrical release by Warner Bros on July 11. First Published: June 20, 2025, 19:10 IST

Superman Gets New Power With a Terrible Cost

The first issue of ended with the Man of Steel emitting a golden glow after awakening from a coma. The meaning of this was not immediately obvious. However, the latest issue confirmed that has developed an amazing new superpower. Unfortunately, using that power takes a terrible toll upon Clark Kent and raises new risks. The first issue of Superman Unlimited found the Man of Steel trying to divert the path of a Kryptonite meteor. He was successful, but the effort put him into a coma for three months. He awoke into a changed world, where Kryptonite was more common. Indeed, almost every criminal organization seemed to be stockpiling the stuff. Compared to that revelation, his skin suddenly glowing was a mere curiosity. Superman Unlimited #2 by Dan Slott and Rafael Albuquerque depicts the Man of Steel's first battle after being cleared for duty. He confronts a group of Intergang members pulling an armored car heist, while armed with green Kryptonite knives and bullets. Immediately upon drawing their weapons, Clark's skin emits the same golden glow as before. In a flashback, Batman explains what they determined while Clark Kent was in a coma. Exposure to green Kryptonite now causes all the solar energy in his body to radiate outward. This effectively supercharges his system, for approximately 200 seconds. During that time, green Kryptonite cannot harm him. Unfortunately, once the solar energy is vented, Superman becomes completely powerless until his cells can recharge. The problems with this new power immediately become apparent. While he can do a lot in just over three minutes, Superman is not perfect. Even with a group of Metropolis police officers to assist him, he still has to hustle to dispose of the Kryptonite, protect the bystanders, and pacify the villain Knockout, who was acting as Intergang's muscle. To make things even worse, Superman's new weakness is accidentally revealed to the world. The Creeper, who was assisting with stopping the robbery, got bored afterward, and playfully shot a spitball at Superman. Superman's reaction is caught on camera by a live-streamer, who notes that he somehow felt pain after he stopped glowing. This will only further complicate how the Man of Steel makes use of his new power in the future. Superman Unlimited #2 is now available at comic shops everywhere.

Review – Batman: Detective Comics #1098

Batman: Detective Comics #1098 cover, via DC Comics. Ray: The secret society of Elixir has been running amok in Gotham – and they don't like their power challenged. Last issue saw Harvey Bullock investigating a series of murders by the immortality cult – but as soon as he got too close, he was hooded, thrown in a van, and is currently on his way to Polkolistan. Batman wastes no time chasing after his PI frenemy, but when he crashes the convoy, he doesn't find Bullock at all – he finds the Penguin, also kidnapped from Gotham by the same villains for not liking them horning in on his territory. This leads to a forced team-up between the two sworn enemies – not far off from Penguin regaining his power in Tom King's solo comic. It's very clear they don't like each other, but Batman isn't willing to leave someone behind and Penguin is willing to take any help he can get to escape a foreign torture den. Frenemies. Via DC Comics. As for Harvey Bullock, he's not in the initial convoy – he's already been taken to Elixir's inner sanctum, where a sadistic doctor is convinced he can make him talk. Bullock is always a fun character to follow – he's so stubborn he doesn't know what's good for him, but his blue-collar aesthetic means he can take self-confident villains by surprise at times. Eventually, the odd trio reunites and Batman has to figure out how he can get these two bickering idiots out of Pokolistan alive. The issue is overall a lot of fun, although it's 90% action and moves very fast. What makes it work is the trio of oil-and-water personalities who dominate it – and the story isn't done yet, with a tense cliffhanger. I'm wondering if the themes of immortality that have dominated this run so far are leading to pulling in the DCU's most famous immortal supervillain – who has obviously tangled with Batman many times before.
