The club stated: "He is a footballer who has played in the top leagues of the English Premier League and the German Bundesliga, as well as the 2018 World Cup. "He made a total of 114 appearances for Rangers over two spells, during which he won a league title, a Scottish Cup and a League Cup. "We wish him every success at the club." Balogun and Goldson played together in both of Rangers' recent cup triumphs - in the 2022 Scottish Cup win over Hearts and the League Cup victory against Aberdeen a year later. Goldson, 32, made 22 starts for Aris in the Cypriot League since his arrival from Glasgow. Balogun was mentioned in connection with a move to Aris last week. And all parties were able to work out a deal quickly. Balogun was gutted to not be kept on at Rangers after the regime change, with the new American ownership group led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises deeming him surplus to requirements. He opened up on how sad it was to leave the club - particularly because he wasn't given a chance to say goodbye to the fans. Rangers-daft pub goes up for sale in Scots town Balogun said on Instagram: "It's that time again. "No caption could summarise all that is going through my mind as I'm writing these lines. "It's been nothing short of an honour, a pleasure and a great, great privilege to represent this massive club - twice! "So many memories, good ones as well as a few tough ones. "But it's the latter especially that made my love for the club grow even stronger. "The moments when we all stuck together and went again - no matter the disappointment or frustration. In these moments the club revealed what makes it most special: YOU. "The people supporting us week in week out, near and far, demanding, expecting, pushing us to do better and go for glory. "The people working for the club behind the scenes, meeting us with a smile everyday, doing their absolute best to contribute to the success of the club in their own way. You're the heartbeat of the club and it's been an honour to represent you! "If I would have known that the last two games of the season were my last for the club I would have made sure to say goodbye to all of you accordingly. "Unfortunately I wasn't afforded that opportunity which saddens me as I would have liked to have walked round Ibrox one last time and returned all the love and support you've given me during my 2 stints. "I don't know when I'll be back, but I promise I won't be a stranger. "Thank you for making me feel at home and appreciated wherever we met. "You've become more than just my club, you've become family. "And for that I will be forever grateful." Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Kaizer Chiefs face Euro competition in chase for AFL star
Kaizer Chiefs have reignited their interest in Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Maseko, but they now face fresh competition from abroad, as Cypriot outfit Aris Limassol step into the picture. Although Maseko found himself on the fringes of Sundowns' squad under Miguel Cardoso, having even been left out of the FIFA Club World Cup group, his talent continues to attract serious attention both locally and internationally. A well-placed source has confirmed Aris Limassol's interest in the Bafana Bafana winger. The Cypriot club have reportedly begun early talks around a possible transfer. 'There is local interest including Kaizer Chiefs and from his former team SuperSport United. But it seems a possible move to Cyprus is more prominent at this point. They have enquired about the price and signing-on fee and some logistics as well already. It's all up to the involved parties to agree on everything and things will work out. But, yes, interest from Aris Limassol, the same team that Mihlali Mayambela plays for, is there,' the source revealed. Despite foreign interest, Kaizer Chiefs remain firmly in the conversation. The Soweto giants view Maseko as a key target as they seek to bolster their wide attacking options ahead of the new campaign. Chiefs previously expressed interest in the winger when he emerged as a breakout star at SuperSport United, and their admiration hasn't faded. Though Maseko did not enjoy regular game time at Chloorkop last season, he still made headlines. The winger clinched the inaugural African Football League Player of the Tournament award and played a role in Bafana Bafana's bronze-medal finish at AFCON in Ivory Coast. The next few weeks could prove decisive. Kaizer Chiefs will hope that their local pull and Maseko's desire for more consistent game time convince the player to snub a European move in favour of a high-profile switch to Naturena. Where should Maseko play his football, Kaizer Chiefs, SuperSport, or Limassol? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. Well-placed officials vowed the embarrassing incident would not be allowed to sully 'the good name' of the force. One source told The Sun: 'If this video is for real it is deeply offensive but we will not let it get in the way of our good name and good work." Social media users had a field day after the video went viral late Tuesday. Commenters said it had 'humiliated' a police force put already under stress from the escalating conflict in the nearby Middle East. Amid the mockery, police spokesperson Kyriaki Lambrianidou called for sensitivity, as children and families are involved. The person who filmed could have handed the video over to police rather than post it online for public consumption, she told local media. Cypriot police responded to a more serious case this week after a British tourist plunged ten metres from a hotel balcony. The 24-year-old tourist was left fighting for his life when he fell from the platform in the party town Ayia Napa. The lad was rushed to the Famagusta hospital in Paralimni, but then urgently transferred to Nicosia general hospital - the largest on the island. Doctors described his condition as 'serious', and cops launched an investigation into the circumstances.

Israel launches airlift to bring home stranded citizens after Iran strike
TEL AVIV, Israel began flying home citizens stranded abroad on Wednesday, launching a phased airlift operation after the country's surprise military strike on Iran left tens of thousands of Israelis stuck overseas. The first rescue flight, operated by national carrier El Al, touched down at Ben Gurion Airport early Wednesday morning, bringing home passengers from Larnaca, Cyprus. Worldwide, Israel's transport ministry estimates that more than 50,000 stranded Israelis are trying to come home. El Al has said repatriation flights are already scheduled from Athens, Rome, Milan and Paris. Smaller rivals Arkia and Israir are also taking part in the operation. Iran arrests five for 'tarnishing' country's image: media 'We are preparing for the airlift to bring all Israelis home,' Transportation Minister Miri Regev told the captain of the arriving El Al flight before it landed, according to a statement released by the Israeli Aviation Authority. 'We are very emotional about receiving the first rescue flight as part of 'Safe Return'. Land safely,' she added. Tel Aviv's airport has been closed to passenger traffic since Israel launched its attack on Friday. The Airports Authority reinforced staffing on Wednesday to ensure the arriving passengers exited the airport quickly. They were shuttled to their parked vehicles or transported via train and bus to city centres nationwide. The operation is being carried out in stages, based on risk levels and security assessments, with an emphasis on the safety of passengers, flight crews, and aircraft, a spokesperson for the airports authority said. Relatives were advised to avoid travelling to airports for security reasons. Iran has fired more than 400 ballistic missiles at Israel since Friday, a large number of them targeting the Tel Aviv area. At least 24 people have died so far in the strikes. There are still be no passenger flights leaving Israel, meaning up to 40,000 tourists are stranded in the country. Iran says hypersonic missiles fired at Israel as Trump demands 'unconditional surrender' El Al has cancelled all scheduled flights through to June 23. Large numbers of Israelis seeking to get home have converged on Cyprus, the European Union member state closest to Israel. Flights from the coastal city of Larnaca to Tel Aviv take 50 minutes. Nine flights were expected to depart Cyprus Wednesday for Haifa, and four for Tel Aviv, carrying about 1,000 people, sources in Cypriot airport operator Hermes said. Cruise operator Mano Maritime, whose 'Crown Iris' ship carries 2,000 passengers, has said it will make two crossings from Cyprus to Israel's Mediterranean port city of Haifa. Earlier on Wednesday, a cruise ship arrived in Cyprus carrying 1,500 participants to a Jewish heritage programme who had left Israel on Tuesday.
