Cynthia Nixon on Miranda's new ‘wonderful' And Just Like That romance

Cynthia Nixon, who portrays Miranda in And Just Like That, has shared her thoughts on her character's new love interest, Joy (Dolly Wells), in the third season. Miranda, now a single queer woman in New York, grows closer to Joy, a BBC producer, following an accidental on-air profanity. Nixon stated that Joy serves as an antidote to Miranda's tendency to catastrophise, similar to her ex-husband Steve Brady, but in a distinct manner. The actor mentioned that Season 3 provided a 'breather' for Miranda's storyline after the intense experiences of coming out and heartbreak in the first two seasons. The Independent 's review of Season 3 gave it three stars, noting the writing was 'clunky' but suggesting the series is beginning to find its rhythm for dedicated fans.

Cynthia Nixon says her son is on a ‘hunger strike' to support Gaza

'Sex and the City' star Cynthia Nixon said her son, an 'observant Jew,' is currently doing a hunger strike with friends in Chicago to support Gaza and bring attention to the humanitarian crisis there. Nixon, 59, said her son, Seph Mozes, is doing the strike as part of his advocacy with Jewish Voices for Peace (JVP), the self-proclaimed Jewish anti-Zionist group that stands in solidarity with Palestinians. 'He and five other of his compatriots are doing a hunger strike in Chicago [since] Monday, for Gaza,' Nixon told Newsweek, adding that their motto was, 'Stop starving Gaza, stop arming Israel.' 4 Cynthia Nixon said her son, Seph Mozes, joined a hunger strike for Gaza at his alma matter, the University of Chicago. Instagram/Cynthia Nixon 4 The hunger strike is to call for an end to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as Hamas and Israel continue to fight in the ruined enclave. '[He] doesn't have illusions that he's going to end the war, but I think he wants to do everything he can,' she added. Nixon — who is best known for playing Miranda Hobbes on 'Sex and the City' and its spinoff — said Mozes, 28, was partially inspired to support Gaza because his paternal grandparents are Holocaust survivors. Eman Abdelhadi, an assistant professor at the University of Chicago where Mozes graduated from, said the hunger strike began Monday and would continue to go on until the situation in Gaza changes. 'Six leaders of JVP Chicago are launching an indefinite hunger strike today. Two of them are academics. No business as usual during genocide,' Abdelhadi wrote on X. 4 Nixon had briefly joined a hunger strike herself to call for an end to the war in Gaza back in November 2023. AFP via Getty Images Mozes' hunger strike comes less than two years after Nixon went on her own part-time hunger strike in November 2023 to call for a cease-fire in Gaza. While the 2023 strike lasted five days, Nixon only joined participants for two of the days. The shadow of famine continues to loom over the Gaza Strip as the fighting between Israel and Hamas leaves the vast majority of the nearly 2 million refugees there with little to no food. While Israel lifted its aid blockade in March, the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Foundation group has had little success distributing enough food to keep the population fed. The few food distribution sites in Gaza have also been marred by death and violence, with the Israel Defense Forces accused of killing 51 people after tank fire hit a group huddled around a World Food Programme site on Tuesday, killing 51 people.

Sarah Jessica Parker Reveals the 'Sex and the City' Character She Feels Most Similar To

If you're a fan of Sex and the City, or its reboot And Just Like That, then chances are you've once asked yourself if you're a Carrie, a Miranda, a Charlotte, or a Samantha. After all, with these four very different characters to choose from, it's easy for a friend group to find themselves in each of them. In fact, it's a question Sarah Jessica Parker (who plays Carrie Bradshaw in both shows) has long grappled with. More from SheKnows Aidan's Snub to Carrie in And Just Like That Episode 3 Might Be My Last Straw 'I'm probably a combination,' she told W Magazine in a new interview. 'I share some of Carrie's interests and certainly the way she feels about New York City and, in a less fevered way, her affection for shoes and fashion—but Carrie's is heightened and otherworldly.' 'As a wife and a mother, I appreciate the things that Charlotte says at times, even though she says them in an often hysterical [way],' she said of Kristin Davis' more traditional and by-the-rules character. 'I might not communicate in the same way, but there are concerns and ways in which she is a mother and a wife that I can relate to.' Lastly, she relates to Cynthia Nixon's ambitious character, too. 'There are things about Miranda that I really appreciate,' she explained. 'She's also serious and a parent.' 'So I think a bit of each, but, obviously, there's sentimentality around Carrie that could muddy the waters, even for me,' she confessed. As a reminder, while Carrie herself never had kids, despite her longtime marriage with Big (Chris Noth), Parker has three kids in real life. She's a proud mom to son James Wilkie, born in 2002, and fraternal twins Tabitha Hodge and Marion Loretta, who were born in 2009, with husband and fellow actor Matthew Broderick. As for Kim Cattrall's character Samantha, Parker didn't draw any connections to her personality. But whether that's due to not having any, Samantha not being in And Just Like That, or their long-rumored feud behind the scenes, we'll never know. Currently, the third season of And Just Like That is in full swing. In it, Parker's Carrie is starting a whole new career as a fiction writer, is on rocky ground with her on-and-off-again ex Aidan (John Corbett), and is busy furnishing her brand new gorgeous Gramery Park home. Cynthia Nixon Says Her Son Is on 'Hunger Strike' in Support of Gaza

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Cynthia Nixon, the well-known actress, activist and one-time gubernatorial candidate, said her son is on a hunger strike in support of Gaza while pushing to halt America's arming of Israel. Nixon made the comments during a discussion Wednesday at Newsweek's Manhattan office. Why It Matters The ongoing Israel-Gaza war has inflicted mass destruction, death and famine in Gaza for 20 months. At least 1.9 million people—about 90 percent of the population there—have been internally displaced by Israeli bombardments, according to the United Nations. Israel's ground and air attacks have killed more than 55,300 Palestinians, per the Gaza Health Ministry. The U.S., Israel's top diplomatic and financial ally, provides more than $3.8 billion in annual military aid, with an additional $17.8 billion authorized since Hamas' October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which triggered the full-scale military campaign in Gaza. President Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested that the U.S. "take over the Gaza Strip," a proposal that Arab nations have unanimously rejected. In recent days, Israel has launched a mass attack on Iran, which has diverted much of the attention from Gaza to Tehran. There is no ceasefire in the region and aid deliveries are limited, with the World Food Program warning of famine. Protests against Israel's military campaign in Gaza and U.S. support for it have spawned in cities across the country, drawing significant attention on college campuses. What To Know Nixon, 59, best known for her role as Miranda on Sex and the City and a range of other acting credits, told Newsweek that her son, Seph Mozes, is "on hunger strike right now" in support of Gaza. Mozes, 28, was just 8 months old when Nixon shot the pilot for Sex in the City. He graduated from the University of Chicago. Nixon described him as "a quite observant Jew" who is "very steeped in Jewish Voices for Peace," a group identifying itself as the "world's largest Jewish organization standing in solidarity with Palestine." It describes itself as a Jewish anti-Zionist organization. She added, "He and five other of his compatriots are doing a hunger strike in Chicago [since] Monday, for Gaza. 'Stop starving Gaza, stop arming Israel.'" Local reporting says the group called for an "infinite" hunger strike. Nixon said that her son "doesn't have illusions that he's going to end the war, but I think he wants to do everything he can." While Nixon isn't Jewish, two of her children are. "His grandparents were Holocaust survivors, and he just feels like he can't stand by and not do everything he can," she added. She described her son as "a smart person with his ear to the ground." Nixon herself took part in a two-day hunger strike in November 2023, during the early months of the war, to protest food shortages in Gaza caused by Israeli blockades and to call for a permanent ceasefire. The hunger strike comes as the Gaza's Health Ministry reported that at least 51 Palestinians were killed while waiting for aid trucks on Tuesday. Vivek Kemp for Newsweek What People Are Saying The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations said in its 2025 Hunger Hotspots report: "In all hotspots of highest concern – the Sudan, Palestine, South Sudan, Haiti and Mali – widespread and escalating armed violence is a major driver of the deterioration in food security, including Catastrophe outcomes in affected areas." Jewish Voices for Peace said in an X post on Wednesday: "This weekend, as hundreds of thousands gathered for mass protest in opposition to rising US fascism, anti-Zionist Jews around the country made sure that the growing struggle against rising authoritarianism in the US is inseparable from the struggle for Palestinian freedom." Eman Abdelhadi, assistant professor at the University of Chicago, said in a Monday X post: "Six leaders of JVP Chicago are launching an indefinite hunger strike today. Two of them are academics. No business as usual during genocide." What Happens Next Pro-Palestinian demonstrations have continued across the U.S. for 20 months. More recently, anti-war protests have also emerged in opposition to potential U.S. military action against Iran.

Cynthia Nixon 'forgets' to mention her VERY embarrassing past in new clip bashing aspiring NYC mayor

Cynthia Nixon bashed Andrew Cuomo 's mayoral bid in a new clip that saw her fail to mention her own embarrassing past. In the very Sex and the City coded video, Nixon warns her Gilded Age co-star Ashlie Atkinson against Cuomo's reemergence on the political stage in the same way her SATC character Miranda Hobbes would caution against an ex sliding into your DMs. Nixon highlights the former governor's shortcomings, while Atkinson acknowledges that Cuomo 'wants us to give him a second chance'. But the actress doubles down, noting how Cuomo had to 'resign' due to sexual assault allegations and cost taxpayers over '$60million for his defense'. She further accuses the Democrat mayoral hopeful of 'still harassing women' today and claims Cuomo has a 'super PAC filled with Trump donors spending millions to get him elected'. And while Nixon vehemently urged her fans 'don't rank Cuomo', there was one very personal but relevant piece of information she neglected to mention. Nixon was absolutely hammered by Cuomo in 2018 after entering the Democratic primary to run for Governor of New York. The actress ran on a woke platform calling for universal rent control, subway repairs, equity in education, reproductive freedom and higher taxes for the wealthy. Nixon further tied her woke colors to the mast in 2021 after declaring that the poor should be allowed to shoplift household basics from stores because 'desperate people shouldn't be prosecuted.' Nixon's anti-Cuomo campaign ad, paid for by the Working Families Party National PAC, aims to remind voters how 'awful he was last time'. She tells Atkinson, who is portraying a character excited that Cuomo slid back into her DMs, how he 'slashed funding for our public schools' and 'siphoned millions from the MTA'. She also referenced how he resigned from office after being accused of sexually harassing eleven women - claiming that he even 'subpoenaed his victims' gynecological records'. The actresses further highlighted his alleged ties with the GOP, claiming he is backed by Trump voters and 'helped keep Republicans in charge in Albany'. After highlighting Cuomo's misdoings, Nixon - in typical Miranda Hobbes fashion - tells her followers: 'New York, take it from me. He's just not that into you.' Nixon, currently appearing in Sex And The City reboot And Just Like That, has been accused of ruining the beloved Miranda character with woke meddling. While Miranda was once happily married to a bar owner called Steve Brady, she is now 'queer' and seeking female partners. The no-nonsense corporate lawyer who inspired a generation of young women in Sex And The City has been transformed into a bumbling non-profit worker seemingly unable to even find an apartment to live in. Nixon is pictured furthest left in a promo photo for Sex And The City taken in 1999. To her right are co-stars Kristin Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kim Cattrall Nixon has been in a relationship with education activist Christine Marinoni since 2004, sparking claims she is trying to model Miranda's personal life on her own. The reboot has been blasted over its unrecognizable characters, low-stakes plotlines and clumsy attempts to shoehorn diversity into its narrative. The advertisement was released as Cuomo is eying a political comeback. Cuomo has long been the favorite in the primary race, bringing fundraising prowess, the power of a political dynasty and a long record of accomplishments to the contest. However, he continues to face intense attacks over his political record and scandal. Cuomo stepped down from office in 2021 after a report from the state attorney general concluded that he sexually harassed at least 11 women. He has said he did not intentionally mistreat the women but had simply ran afoul of what was considered appropriate workplace conduct. The former governor has cast himself as an experienced moderate who has the political acumen to deal with the Republican president and save a city that he has described as out of control with crime and homelessness. While former New York Mayor billionaire Michael Bloomberg and Democratic heavyweights have endorsed Cuomo, the young Democratic Congressional star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has thrown her support behind Zohran Mamdani. A New York State Assembly representative, Mamdani bills himself as Trump's 'worst nightmare' and champions social policies like free bus travel, raising the minimum wage to $30 per hour by 2030, and a tax hike for the wealthy. 'Trump would go through Mr Mamdani like a hot knife through butter,' Cuomo said during a debate, criticizing his rival for lacking the experience to run a city with a $112 billion annual budget and 300,000 employees.
