Alyssa Thompson can't capitalize on penalty kick in Angel City loss
Brazilian international Lorena stopped a penalty kick and countrywoman Bia Zaneratto scored to keep the Current perfect at home. The victory secured a sixth consecutive win for Kansas City, which remained atop the NWSL standings. The Current (11-2-0) have won all six of their home games. Kansas City hasn't dropped a game at home since a July 2024 loss to Orlando. With the score tied 0-0, Lorena leapt to her right to parry a spot kick by Angel City forward Alyssa Thompson in the 56th minute. The ball was tipped onto the crossbar before bobbling out for a corner kick. It was Lorena's first penalty save and Thompson's first failed conversion in the NWSL. Reigning NWSL MVP Temwa Chawinga broke away on a dribble and had her low shot saved by Angel City goalkeeper Angelina Anderson, only for Zaneratto to scoop up the rebound and the tuck the ball away in the 69th minute. Zaneratto has five goals, tied for the second-most of any Current player behind Chawinga with eight. Angel City (5-5-3) is winless in its last five games, and has secured one tie and two losses since Alex Straus took over as coach three weeks ago.

Racing Louisville downs the Pride 2-0 and the Current edges Angel City 1-0 in the NWSL
Arin Wright and Taylor Flint scored for Racing Louisville in a 2-0 victory over the Orlando Pride in the National Women's Soccer League on Friday night. In the only other NWSL game on Friday, the Kansas City Current narrowly beat visiting Angel City 1-0. Racing captain Wright opened the scoring by heading in a corner kick from Courtney Peterson in the 30th minute. The goal was Wright's first since she joined Louisville in 2024. Flint scored her third goal of the season to make it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the 68th minute. Referee John Matto awarded the penalty after Emily Sams pulled Sarah Weber in the box. The visiting Pride (8-4-1) dominated possession with 64% but only just edged Racing in shots 16-14. Orlandoe hit the target seven times to Louisville's three. It is only the second time the Pride have conceded multiple goals in a game this season. Pride forward Barbra Banda took eight shots herself, forcing five saves from Jordyn Bloomer in the Louisville goal. Bloomer recorded her second shutout of the season. Racing (6-5-2) now has five wins in their last seven NWSL matches, and moves up to fifth in the standings. Geopolitical uncertainties, shifts in global supply chains, advances in generative AI, and climate events continued to test business resilience, said P.B. Balaji, Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director, Tata Consumer Products. Global growth was expected to moderate in the near term, with the IMF forecasting a 2.8% expansion for emerging markets in 2025, he said, adding advanced economies continued to grapple with inflation and tight financial conditions, but emerging markets—especially India—stood resilient. India remained one of the fastest-growing large economies in the world, with GDP growth estimated at north of 6%. ''We are navigating through a world that is both dynamic and demanding. Yet, even amidst this volatility, we find ourselves at a unique moment in history—where innovation, transformation, and consumption-led growth are converging,'' he said while speaking at the company's Annual General Meeting on Wednesday. In his speech he said, against this backdrop, markets were also witnessing significant shifts in consumer behaviour and business models. For instance, consumers were becoming more health-conscious; there was a clear trend towards premiumisation, even in staples; with urbanisation, time-constrained consumers were seeking convenience, leading to rising demand for cooking aids, ready-to-drink beverages, and snacking, he observed. Distribution, he further said, was being reshaped by quick commerce, but physical retail remained deeply relevant. Also, digital-first marketing and hyper-personalisation were rewriting the brand playbook. At the same time, Artificial Intelligence was rapidly transforming every function—from demand forecasting and content generation to inventory optimisation and pricing intelligence, he told the shareholders. Tata Consumer Products saw quantum growth in last 5 years On the growth of Tata Consumer Products, Mr. Balaji said, when Tata Consumer was formed, five years ago, it had a largely single category footprint—Tea and Coffee and today the company has gone through a significant transformation to become one of the fastest-growing FCB companies in India, operating across multiple categories and brands. `Innovation is a critical muscle for an FMCG company and over the last 5 years, we have significantly scaled our innovation efforts, launching over 150 products, and our innovation to sales ratio has grown from 0.8% in FY20 to 5.2% in FY25, among the best in the industry,'' he claimed. According to him, digital was no longer a vertical – it was embedded across how the company operated, went to market and engaged with millions of consumers. ''We have deployed several high-impact AI use cases across sales, marketing, sourcing and RCD (Residual Current Device). Companies that embed AI deeply into operations will lead the next phase of value creation.'' Focus on grooming internal talent Balaji further said, at the heart of the company's transformation was a strong focus on building a future-ready organisation—one that was agile, inclusive, and deeply aligned with purpose. ''We are taking a deliberate approach to grooming internal talent - this includes creating structured leadership pipelines, cross-functional learning experiences, and long-term capability building,'' he said. Governor signs Reba's Law as DA cuts deal with one of two defendants in animal cruelty case
The law's enactment comes days after Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson cut a deal with one of the two defendants whose charges inspired the legislation. (Photo by) Gov. Joe Lombardo on Tuesday signed Reba's Law, a bill passed in response to the death of a bulldog who died of heat stroke days after she was found in a sealed tote behind a Las Vegas business last summer. Reba's Law increases the penalty for willful and malicious acts resulting in the death of an animal from the current maximum of four years in prison to six. Assembly Bill 381, sponsored by Republican Assemblywoman Melissa Hardy of Clark County, initially sought to increase the prison term to a maximum of ten years, but was amended. The measure almost expired in the Assembly after it failed to get a hearing before an initial deadline, but was resurrected after animal advocates applied pressure to lawmakers. Lombardo's approval comes days after Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson, who complained the existing maximum penalty of four years in prison wasn't adequate punishment for people who abandon animals, cut a deal with one of the two defendants. An investigation by the Current revealed Wolfson rarely seeks prison time in cases involving animals. Markeisha Foster, 30, originally charged with one count of cruelty to animals, agreed to plead guilty to a count of attempt to kill, disfigure or maim an animal of another, according to court records. She will serve seven months in jail and is expected to be released at the end of the month on time served. The other defendant, Isaac Laushaul Jr., is scheduled to stand trial this month. It's unknown if Foster is cooperating with prosecutors. 'Reba's Law strengthens our legal tools, but laws on paper are not enough without infrastructure, manpower, and training to support them,' Gina Greisen of Nevada Voters for Animals said in a news release, adding that cruelty cases often 'fall apart due to inadequate or delayed investigations, missing necropsies, and an inability to determine cause of death early—leaving prosecutors without the evidence they need to pursue charges. If there is no timely, proper, and thorough investigation on the front end of an animal cruelty complaint, there is no case.' The organization is calling on officials to support the laws with necessary resources. 'That means funding trained cruelty investigators, prioritizing forensic veterinary support, and holding agencies accountable for enforcement,' Greisen said. Another provision of Reba's Law provides criminal immunity to individuals who rescue pets left unattended in cars. Nevada law currently authorizes law enforcement or individuals to use reasonable means to protect a pet left unattended in a vehicle, and avoid civil liability. An individual rescuing a pet must ascertain the animal is in danger, notify law enforcement, take the most reasonable means to remove the pet, and remain with it until officers arrive.
