Trader nabbed over air gun shooting

MELAKA: Police have arrested a clothing trader in connection with a shooting incident involving an air gun in Semabok, near here, earlier this month. Melaka Tengah police chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, said the 35-year-old male suspect has been remanded for seven days from June 17 to 23 to assist in the investigation. He said police received a report from a man on June 8 regarding the discharge of an air gun on Jalan Johor, Semabok. Acting on the information, a team of officers and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Division of the district police headquarters conducted surveillance before arresting the suspect in Puchong, Selangor. "Upon inspection, police seized a black bag containing an object resembling a silver-and-black pistol bearing the inscription 'Pietro Beretta Gardone V.T', a magazine marked 'WE', a pistol magazine unit, and 30 steel pellets in the suspect's possession. "The case is still under investigation under Section 33 of the Arms Act 1960 and Section 427 of the Penal Code. The public is advised not to speculate in ways that could disrupt the investigation process," he said in a statement today. In a separate case, Christopher said police arrested a couple aged 24 and 31 suspected of being actively involved in housebreaking, theft, and robbery in the district. He said both unemployed suspects were arrested on June 4 in Kuala Kurau, Perak following intelligence and investigations into two reports lodged on May 28 by a woman regarding housebreaking and the robbery of a gold chain. Police also seized various electrical appliances, home furniture, a gold bracelet, two cars, five pawnshop receipts, and five mobile phones from the suspects. "Preliminary investigations revealed the couple had been actively committing these crimes since January this year, and further investigations are ongoing under Sections 457 and 392 of the Penal Code relating to housebreaking and robbery. "With the arrest of the suspects, police have successfully solved three cases in the Melaka Tengah district and four cases outside the Melaka contingent, namely in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur," he said.
