Cancelled 'Dungeons & Dragons' RPG By 'Counter Strike: GO' Developer Leaked Online

Gameplay footage and concept art from developer Hidden Path Entertainment's cancelled Dungeons and Dragons RPG have leaked online, offering a glimpse at an open-world RPG that almost was. Hidden Path, the studio behind the Defense Grid series and co-developers of the 2012 multiplayer FPS Counter-Strike: Global Offensive , first started working on the project four years ago, as made known via a series of job listings by the studio for a 'AAA, third-person, open-world fantasy RPG that will be taking place inside the Dungeons & Dragons franchise.' The project, codenamed Project Dante , was unfortunately short-lived, as one of the studio's founders, Michael Austin, announced its cancellation in 2024 via a post on LinkedIn, stating that the studio had been 'in numerous active discussions to find replacement funding', and ultimately had 'no choice but to pause development on that project and reduce the company size until we have an opportunity to return to it', letting go 44 developers as a result. Now, an eight-minute video and various concept art for the doomed title have leaked online, offering a tease of what could have been. This leak comes from MP1st, with gameplay clips showcasing its third-person exploration and combat. The game would have featured a companion system, with the leaked video detailing the player character accompanied by two other characters, Kavir and Ri Om, who assist with combat and puzzle-solving. Early footage of its cinematics, voice work and even an entire song sung by NPCs were shown, although most were place-holders. A collection of concept art was also leaked, including various Dungeons and Dragons imagery like a five-headed hydra, a party facing off against a volcanic dragon, and an adorable white cat with wings, alongside art for the various characters players would meet in the game. According to MP1st, the game was believed to be near the final stages of its development when it was cancelled, with its unfortunate fate likely being a part of a series of five cancellations by publisher Wizards of the Coast in early 2023, making it a real shame that a project so far along in its development was axed so suddenly. Still, there are many more Dungeons and Dragons titles in the works for fans of the iconic tabletop franchise, including a single player action-adventure game from the former director of Respawn's Star Wars Jedi games, Stig Asmussen, and his new studio Gian Skull, alongside a magic-focused title from Ubisoft alumni Jeff Hattem's Invoke Studios. Let's hope these titles will actually see the light of day and not suffer the same fate as Project Dante . Stellar Blade is already the third top-selling game on Steam more than a week before launch, and just its demo has reviews and players most full games would kill for

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. The PS5's biggest winner through a lot of 2024 was Stellar Blade. The game did so well that its developers were given a PS5 Pro and a massive bonus, and now Sony is finally porting the game to PC – where it looks like it's going to be even bigger than ever. While the Stellar Blade PC port isn't releasing until June 11, the game is already sitting at number three in the Steam Top Sellers list just behind the ever-unstoppable Counter Strike 2 and Elden Ring Nightreign (which is doing super well, despite its mixed Steam reviews). However, that's not the only impressive feat Stellar Blade has managed to pull off on Steam ahead of its official release. Last week, Shift Up published a Stellar Blade Demo on Steam, with SteamDB showing the peak player count at 26,443 (for comparisons sake, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League – which released around the same time as the game on PS5 – peaked at 13,459). Not only that, but also, the Stellar Blade Demo already has just under 3,000 user reviews on Steam, with a Very Positive rating made up of 91% positive reviews. The reviews seem especially keen on how well the game is performing on PC, with numerous users praising the optimization of the game – with one user even claiming 120fps on max settings with a RTX 3070 from five years ago. Even though I didn't vibe with Stellar Blade on PS5 as much as I'd hoped to, it's refreshing to see what seems to be a great PC port in the era of Monster Hunter Wilds, Rise of the Ronin, and The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered all having struggled on PC in their own ways. Stellar Blade 2 is in the works and will likely launch before 2027, developer Shift Up reveals.

For ultrawide screens, I'd recommend checking out the MSI Mag 34CQP (9/10, WIRED Review), which is also a QD-OLED panel. It has a smooth 175-Hz refresh rate, super high brightness for excellent HDR performance, and a price tag that's pretty appealing for how much screen you're getting. I was a devout ultrawide gamer for years, and I love how much more immersive games are when they take up more of your field of view. I also like them for games like World of Warcraft where I have a zillion UI elements to keep track of, but still need to see my character. The MSI also has some unique features that justify the slightly elevated price tag. The main draw is a KVM switch, which lets you use the same keyboard, mouse, and screen with two different systems, switching between them with the push of a button. It also has some OLED-specific features to help prevent burn-in, something you'll see some form of on most OLED and QD-OLED panels. Specs Panel Type QD-OLED Resolution 3,440 x 1,440 Refresh Rate 175 Hz For some gamers, refresh rate is the most important factor, giving you time to respond in the snappiest of shooters. At 1440p, the Samsung Odyssey G6 (8/10, WIRED Review) can reach a teetering 360 Hz, and I know some of you are already dreaming of perfectly tuning your Counter-Strike 2 or Valorant settings to get over 300 fps. It still has an OLED panel for when you don't feel like getting sweaty, and FreeSync Premium Pro, which means you get better HDR support, even when your frame rate isn't smooth. It's a versatile screen and great for daily gaming or productivity. Unless you have the graphics card to power it, and plan on playing over 240 Hz often, it's worth saving the cash and getting the panel upgrade to the AOC.
