Barcelona hold talks with 19-year-old attacking talent

Barcelona President Joan Laporta seemed confident on Wednesday evening when declaring that the Catalan giants could 'sign normally', and the club certainly appear to be acting under that impression. Following a move for Nico Williams, the Blaugrana have held talks with another attacking talent. In this case, it is Swedish talent Roony Bardghji. The 19-year-old has been linked with a variety of Europe's top clubs since breaking through into professional football as a 16-year-old, and Fabrizio Romano reports that the Blaugrana have now held talks directly with his camp, and have been informed of the numbers it will require to make a deal happen. It is noted that Porto have already submitted an offer for Bardghji, although that is yet to be accepted. Bardghji is likely to be on the move sooner rather than later, with his current deal at Copenhagen expiring at the end of 2025. This season Bardghji has played just 243 minutes after coming back from a cruciate ligament tear. Atletico Madrid also interested in Bardghji Europe's top clubs are lining up for Bardghji despite his injury and lack of game time though, and earlier this year, Atletico Madrid were cited as one of the sides most interested in him. All the same, Bayern Munich, Juventus, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been watching him closely. Barcelona have been scouting Bardghji for at least 18 months too. Photo by Lars Ronbog / FrontZoneSport via Getty Images Bardghji offensive separate to Nico Williams deal Romano does note that Barcelona's pursuit of Bardghji is separate from their move for Nico Williams, and the two deals would not have an impact on each other. The 19-year-old primarily operates off the right wing, cutting in onto his left, but has also played through the middle before. So far he has made 84 appearances, scoring 15 goals and giving one assist.

Update to Google Maps in selected markets adds interesting AI feature

Google Maps has pushed out an update that is meant for users of the app in Europe. When you type in your destination, Google Maps typically searches for multiple routes for the navigation option you've selected (car, walking, public transportation, etc.). However, with the addition of AI, Google Maps will check the estimated time of arrival (ETA) of other modes to your destination. If you can reach your destination faster using public transportation or by walking, you'll see those directions on the display instead of directions for driving. If a different mode of transportation is faster than driving, Google Maps will show you directions using that mode. | Image credit-PhoneArena For example, let's say that you have Google Maps set up for driving directions and the app determines that you'll reach your destination faster by taking public transportation. Google Maps will then show you those suggested routes. Not only will you arrive earlier, by taking the bus you are reducing pollution, conserving gas, and doing your part to protect and preserve natural resources. This new feature is available in 60 European cities including Stockholm, Warsaw. and Copenhagen. In Europe, cycling is huge and Google Maps is adding cycling navigation to 17 new cities with nine of them located in Europe. The app now shows 125,000 kilometers (equal to 77,671 miles) of bike lanes in cities such as Hamburg, Madrid, Barcelona, Milan, Rome, Zurich, Budapest, Vienna, and Brussels. Google is using data obtained from local governments and public authorities. Since Google Maps is looking to get travelers to be more judicious in their consumption of natural resources, it now offers fuel-efficient routes worldwide. Previously, this feature was available only in certain regions. When you type a destination on the app, the fuel-efficient route is listed as an alternative. Each route also shows its ETA so that you'll know how much later you'll arrive at your destination by taking the more fuel-efficient option. Fuel-efficient directions show you how much gas you'll save when using this route. | Image credit-PhoneArena Google Maps is also adding support for low-emission zones which will impact drivers in Italy, Sweden, Austria, and other locations. Google Maps will send alerts that will "check if your vehicle is allowed in these zones." You can ask the app to create an alternate route that bypasses the low-emission zones. Google Maps will support over 1,000 low-emission zones. Google Maps now supports low-emission zones and will let you know if your car can drive into this zone. | Image credit-PhoneArena Project Green Light uses AI and Google Maps driving trends to help recommend to cities how they can improve their existing traffic light cycles. Denmark to deploy ‘saildrones' in Baltic to protect undersea cables from Russian threat

Denmark is deploying floating drones on the Baltic Sea to protect undersea infrastructure and bolster maritime surveillance amid the growing threat of hybrid attacks from Russia. The arrival of Saildrone, a California-based company, has prompted criticism in Denmark over forging tighter bonds with the US in such a sensitive area as digital security. The backlash comes amid rapidly changing alliances, evolving technology and ongoing tensions between Copenhagen and Washington after Donald Trump threatened to take over Greenland, which is part of the Danish kingdom. The 10-metre unmanned vessels, known as 'saildrones', resemble sailing boats but are designed solely to collect data. Using onboard AI, saildrones compile data using multiple sensors, cameras and radar to produce a more detailed picture of maritime activity than satellites can provide. The company has previously worked with the US navy, which used its vessels to support counter-drug trafficking and illegal fishing operations. Its arrival in Denmark marks the first time it has been used for defence purposes in European waters. 'The purpose of Saildrone is to give eyes and ears where we previously didn't have eyes and ears,' said Richard Jenkins, CEO of Saildrone. As concerns grow over Russia's so-called shadow fleet – ageing tankers used to circumvent sanctions by transporting crude oil to China and India – saildrones can be used to verify vessel identification and flag unusual movements that may point to undersea sabotage of pipelines or data cables. 'What we're seeing now is commercial shipping fleets being used in military applications,' said Jenkins. 'So whether it's the shadow fleet for Russia trafficking illegal supplies that is getting around sanctions or whether they are trying to do nefarious things like damage infrastructure, we need to be able to track that.' The Danish armed forces are deploying four saildrones in the Baltic for operational testing to improve its capacity for maritime surveillance and intelligence gathering. However, the partnership has raised concerns among Denmark's tech leaders. The software engineer and entrepreneur, David Heinemeier Hansson, told Danish broadcaster DR: 'The problem with American companies is that they have to follow American law, American decrees and the American president. He can demand data at any time, and he can close an account at any time.' Jacob Herbst, head of the Danish Cybersecurity Council, said: 'With the international situation we are currently seeing, you obviously have to think very carefully when choosing American suppliers in this area.' Jenkins said they are not getting classified data in Denmark and that data is fully encrypted. The floating drones can be powered by diesel, wind and solar and can remain at sea for over a year but their average deployment is 100 days. Between 10 and 20 saildrones would be needed to cover the whole of the Baltic.

Denmark to Push Tougher EU Immigration Rules During Presidency

Denmark will make stricter immigration a top priority for the European Union during its rotating presidency, seeking to use its hard-line stance on migration as a model for the bloc. The Danish government aims for 'concrete proposals and innovative solutions' to curb irregular migration and reduce arrivals into the EU, Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre said Thursday. It will also move forward with talks to update rules on safe third countries and safe countries of origin, measures designed to make it easier for member states to reject asylum claims and return people more swiftly.
