Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: D-Backs-Rockies series ripe with good streaming options this weekend
There are plenty of hitters to stream this weekend in fantasy baseball, led by those who are destined to be in the starting lineup often during an expected high-scoring series at Coors Field. There are also a couple players on the Astros who are exciting options, and a pair of Guardians who could make contributions. The pitching options are less enticing, which means that wise managers should rush to the waiver wire to grab the top options from the list at the bottom of this article. Matchups to Target D-Backs @ Rockies Arizona's outstanding offense (4th in MLB in runs scored) should have a field day this weekend, when they face a Rockies pitching staff that has posted a 6.29 ERA when working at hitter-friendly Coors Field. With two of the projected starters throwing from the left side, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (52%) is a great option. Gabriel Moreno (31%) will be a good target if he has recovered from a minor hand injury. On the other side of the same series, the Rockies should score often when they face two starters with an ERA over 5.00 and a relief corps with a 5.39 ERA. Ryan McMahon (34%) and Michael Toglia (19%) are the top Colorado hitters to add, and Jordan Beck (16%) can be considered as well. Mickey Moniak (2%) is a deep-league option. Advertisement Guardians @ Athletics The Athletics have posted a 5.97 ERA at their hitter-friendly home park, which puts Cleveland's hitters in excellent position this weekend. Two of the projected starters will throw from the left side, which makes right-handed hitter Lane Thomas (24%) the top player to add. David Fry (4%) is a better option than he initially appears with catcher eligibility and a spot in the heart of the lineup against lefties. Astros @ Angels Houston should have plenty of baserunners this weekend when they face three starters who each have a bloated WHIP and a relief corps that sits 28th in baseball with a 1.52 WHIP. Cam Smith (20%) and Jake Meyers (8%) have been hitting well of late and should each have a productive weekend. Advertisement Yankees vs. Orioles There should be plenty of offense for the home team when a lineup that ranks third in runs scored faces three unimposing starters and a relief corps with a 4.62 ERA. The Yankees have a crowded outfield, but Jasson Dominguez (51%) and Trent Grisham (22%) should be in the lineup enough to provide fantasy contributions. Dodgers vs. Nationals Once Los Angeles gets MacKenzie Gore out of the game on Friday night, they will be set to produce for the remainder of the series against two mediocre starters and a bullpen that ranks 29th in baseball with a 5.90 ERA. The Dodgers have eight hitters who are rostered in more than 75% of leagues, which means that they won't provide waiver-wire assistance. But this is a good reminder for those in shallow leagues to ensure that Tommy Edman, Andy Pages and Max Muncy are in the starting lineup. Matchups to Avoid Red Sox @ Giants Boston hitters could have a quiet weekend when they visit a pitcher-friendly road venue. The Red Sox face three starters with a sub-4.00 ERA and a bullpen that leads the Majors with a 2.60 ERA. With Rafael Devers in the opposing dugout, Jarren Duran is the only must-start player in this lineup. Advertisement Mets @ Phillies The trio of Zack Wheeler, Mick Abel and Jesus Luzardo could give New York's hitters fits this weekend. Once we get past the Mets top trio of Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto and Pete Alonso, the other hitters can slide to the bench. Royals @ Padres Kansas City's unproductive offense (29th in baseball with 249 runs scored) could have another quiet weekend when they face two tough starters (Nick Pivetta and Dylan Cease) and a bullpen that ranks 6th in baseball with a 3.28 ERA. Bobby Witt Jr. and Salvador Perez will remain active everywhere, while Maikel Garcia and Vinnie Pasquantino will stay in the lineup in some 12-team leagues. Seeking Saves Danny Palencia, Cubs, 43% It's shocking that Palencia is still sitting on so many waiver wires. Sure, Ryan Pressly picked up a save on June 12 after Palencia faced the Pirates' top hitters in the eighth inning, but Palencia has earned the team's past two saves and is clearly being deployed as their top reliever. He could earn another save this weekend, when Chicago's high-scoring offense faces some effective Seattle starters. The end result should be some close games. Seeking Steals Jake Meyers, Astros, 8% The Astros could steal a few bases against the Angels this weekend. Los Angeles has been among the worst in baseball at throwing out would-be base stealers, nabbing just 11.5% of runners. Meyers ranks second on Houston with 11 steals and could reach base often against a trio of unreliable starters and a weak relief corps. Mets' Juan Soto on reaching base career-high six times: 'I'm just finding more gaps, more holes'
The season-long Statcast hitting percentiles for Juan Soto have patently shown an atypical stretch of bad luck at the plate, and the Mets' new superstar made this point even more clear to his doubters on Sunday afternoon by achieving a feat he'd never reached before. While the Mets relied on home runs -- six in total and two from Pete Alonso, who made some more franchise history -- to complete a convincing sweep of the lowly Rockies at Coors Field, there wasn't anyone in the lineup who came close to matching Soto's day in the batter's box. The lefty slugger reached base a career-high six times, logging three singles and three walks to raise his on-base percentage to .384. He also scored three runs. Advertisement Soto drove an 0-1 fastball to left in the first inning, a 3-2 fastball to right in the third, and a 1-2 fastball to center in the fourth. Those knocks bumped his season average to .244. He worked the count full during the sixth, eighth, and ninth innings, and wound up strolling to first base on balls each time. The Mets aren't paying Soto record-breaking money to deliver record-breaking power. He's a generational talent because of his on-base skills and keen eye -- home runs should be viewed as a welcome bonus. After the win, Soto was asked if he's felt differently at the plate in recent games. He said no. He's stayed true to the approach that's long made him successful. "It's always a good feeling to get on base, try to help the team in any way," Soto said. "Even if I take a walk or hit the ball hard, I just try to help the team. ... It's just the same thing [at the plate]. I'm just finding more gaps, more holes. Finally landing some pitches and making some good swings and decisions. Just finding some holes." Advertisement Soto has resembled his old, dominant self over the last week-plus, and looked far more comfortable playing in a Mets uniform. Since the start of June, he's slashing .346/.564/.615 with two homers, a double, and 12 walks across 39 plate appearances. In the last 15 games, his on-base mark is .435 -- much closer to his career average of .418. If the skeptics still aren't convinced of a Soto breakout, they should trust the Statcast metrics. His expected batting average (xBA) is currently .298, which ranks in the 91st percentile among MLB hitters. His walk (18.1) and chase (14.8) rates are elite, in the 100th percentile. His hard-hit percentage (54.0) ranks third-best in his career, and he's well on pace to become the second Met ever to register 100-plus walks in a single season. "That's who he is, another great hitter we've got in our lineup," Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said of Soto. "Three singles and three walks, not easy to do at the big league level. Good to see him do that, and again, finally getting some results. But I feel like the at-bat quality has been there throughout."

Denver police confront marchers upset with ICE in chaotic exchanges downtown, block group from accessing I-25
Police in Denver responded in full force on Tuesday night to marches downtown after an early evening protest at the Colorado State Capitol. CBS Video captured near the intersection of 20th Street and Little Raven Street in Denver showed a large crowd of demonstrators and smoke just before 10 p.m. At one point in the video, a marcher threw an object that looked to be a pepper ball back at police. At least one person was detained on Tuesday night. Police also blocked the entrance to Interstate 25 at Broadway so marchers couldn't enter, and there was another large police presence at Market Street and 20th. Break-off groups from an earlier peaceful protest against Immigration and Customs Enforcement grew more chaotic as the night went on. Denver police told CBS Colorado rocks and bottles were thrown at officers near Coors Field. Some video was circulating online showing smoke. CBS Colorado contacted police to find out what it was. Their final report is not available so it's not known what was used, but they confirmed to CBS Colorado that no tear gas had been used. Similar confrontations have been happening in several other cities across the country, including Los Angeles. Protests and marches have been going on there for days as demonstrators have been clashing with police. Many protests -- including in Texas, in Chicago, and now in Denver -- have come about in response to the situation in California.

SEE IT: Pete Alonso ties, then surpasses David Wright for second place on Mets' all-time home run list
Pete Alonso continues to rise up the Mets' all-time home run list. On Sunday afternoon at Coors Field, Alonso belted a two-run home run to left-center to put the Mets ahead 4-0 on the Colorado Rockies in the top of the third inning. The blast from Alonso was No. 242, tying David Wright for second on the franchise's all-time list and trailing only Darryl Strawberry, who logged 252 long balls in a Mets uniform. Advertisement Then, in the eighth inning, the Mets' slugger took sole possesion of second place, crushing a two-run shot down the left field line for No. 243 to put the team up 12-3. The pair of two-run dingers also bumped Alonso's season RBI to a league-leading 61. While Wright wasn't the same pure power hitter as Alonso, it's worth nothing that Wright hit his 242nd home run in his 1,583rd career game, while Alonso accomplished the same number in just 912 career games. Denver's Ballpark General Improvement District hires new leader from Chicago Cubs' Wrigleyville
The Ballpark General Improvement District surrounding Coors Field in Denver began its ambassador program three months ago after businesses and residents chose to tax themselves to fund the GID. Its role is to help make the area safer and cleaner for residents and visitors. Now, the district has a new leader with a new vision. The search for its first executive director was national, but in a sea of more than 350 applicants it was a Ballpark neighborhood resident who got the job. Kate McKenna's first day was Wednesday but is already looking at ways to expand their efforts. Mckenna also lives in the area and has already seen an enormous change over the last three months. "The amount of what I call linger longer; people, positive loitering, the cleanliness, the friendliness, has just been tenfold," said McKenna. Kate McKenna CBS McKenna moved to the area from Chicago a year ago and was excited about the opportunity to lead the improvement efforts as the first executive director. "Strategically, we're looking for clean, green, and safe as our main initiatives. And I would say that my role is going to be pivotal in being the administration behind that, making sure that the promises are met, that the accountability is there, and that we maintain focus while bringing the community together. Really a liaison of sorts." She previously worked with the improvement district surrounding Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play, and will lean on their success as inspiration. Her hope is that more people will be drawn to the area year-round by supporting the neighborhood's culture and business. CBS "We do have that sort of heart and culture here, beyond just the MLB team. I think being able to replicate some of their successes by making sure that we're advocating and patronizing the small businesses before and after and during the games, if you earn a ticket holder, is really what's going to keep us in that forward momentum." The area could get a more colorful makeover in the future. "My personal desire is to paint everything," she said. "It's a very accessible and very positive change for any neighborhood. Even if it's just project-by-project basis, you're going to see a lot of new and exciting things in the area."
