Serious collision closes Hwy. 89 in both directions near Cookstown
A section of Highway 89 is closed in both directions following a serious crash near 6th Line and County Road 56. On Monday afternoon, emergency crews were called to the scene of a vehicle collision near Cookstown. According to paramedics, no one was transported to the hospital as one individual at the scene of the crash declined medical treatment. The highway remains closed to allow for cleanup and a police investigation. Sgt. Joe Brisebois with the Ontario Provincial Police told CTV News, 'It's a very active scene right now.' Motorists are asked to avoid the area and find alternate routes. Further details about the cause of the collision have not been released. Impaired driver charged after crash: OPP

(Rob Cooper/ CTV Barrie) A local driver is facing impaired driving charges after they allegedly crashed their vehicle in New Tecumseth early Tuesday morning. According to Nottawasaga OPP, officers responded to a call at around 1 a.m. for vehicle in the ditch on Highway 89 near County Road 56. Police say the officers met with the driver after locating the vehicle, forming grounds that the driver was impaired by alcohol. The 27-year-old driver from Cookstown was charged with operation while impaired, operation with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres, and driving with liquor readily available. The accused was scheduled for a Wednesday court appearance to answer to the charges.
