Mike Myers went into depression when SNL sketches were cut
Mike Myers used to "go into a depression" if his sketches were cut from Saturday Night Live. The 62-year-old star was a writer on the comedy series from 1989 to 1995 and has made occasional appearances over the years since, and he hated the dress rehearsal before the live show because it left him feeling "nervous" and deeply unhappy if his skits didn't make it through to the final programme. He told Variety: "Dress rehearsal bums me out and I get nervous. Then if the sketch gets in, I'm like, 'OK!' I'm way more psyched that it got in, that I'm going to be in the show this week.' 'I used to go into a depression when my sketch got cut." However, the Austin Powers star learned a new perspective from Conan O'Brien, who was one of Saturday Night Live's writers from 1988 to 1991. He said: "Then one week, Conan had worked with a very, very hard host who had put him through the wringer. "Conan was just a mess and saw that a sketch was cut and he goes, 'Perfect. It's all going perfectly to plan.' It got a big laugh, and I was like, 'You can be that way? You don't have to be depressed?' "He taught me how to say, 'OK. It's not the end of the world.'' And Mike insisted he wouldn't have tried to fight for an axed sketch to be included. He said: 'Never. I have witnessed people try it. That's when I go invisible. Too much tension! The captain has spoken, move on.' But he has fought for certain jokes, though these days he'd go with the judgement of showrunner Lorne Michaels. He said: 'When I was younger as a writer, if Lorne Michaels asked, 'Do you think you can make that work?' I'd say, 'Yes, I think I can.' Whereas now I think I'd be more likely to say, 'If you're not sure, let's not!'' Mike returned to SNL for the 50th anniversary special earlier this year, and less than two weeks later, he made his first appearance on a regular episode in 10 years when he played Elon Musk in the cold opener. And the Wayne's World star is having "so much fun" playing the billionaire businessman. He said: 'It's so much fun. Colin [Jost] and the crew write the Elons, and all I do is I add a little this and a little that, and mostly, I cut. A lot of people don't like to cut. I love to cut. "If you've got eight jokes, three of them are OK and the five of them are strong, let's just go with the five! 'I've had so much fun doing it. When I did the 50th anniversary, I had a moment going, 'Do I know how to do this?' And I was like, 'Oh, of course, I know how to do this. I did this for six years.' "

'To lift a trophy in the Hogan Stand with all your mates, it's incredibly special'
LEINSTER DID THEIR trophy lift, enjoyed their lap of honour, and then they went up into the Hogan Stand for another trophy lift. Croke Park traditions and all. The first moment Jack Conan got his hands on the URC trophy down on the pitch was as delightful as he had imagined. In keeping with another tradition, he shared the lift with injured captain Caelan Doris and the retiring Cian Healy. Others like Ross Byrne, Liam Turner, and Rob Russell are leaving Leinster too, but it was only right that Healy got his moment in the limelight, even if he fought against it. 'I would have loved to have Ross and Liamo and Robbo up there, but three people lifting a trophy is enough,' said Conan. 'Caelan is a fantastic captain and I'm only here today because he unfortunately has been injured. He has led the team unbelievably well. We compete for a position but get on so well. He has been brilliant. 'Then for Cian, who is probably Leinster's greatest ever servant, for all he has done. He would hate that. I said it to him that I knew he would say no, but to please come up and lift the trophy because it's only fitting that someone like that who has given their all and done incredibly well over the years gets their final moment with the trophy. I'm glad he said yes because I thought he was going to fight me. It's the least he deserved.' As for the second trophy lift in the Hogan Stand, Conan was just going with the flow. Advertisement He couldn't shed light on whose idea it was. 'I have absolutely no idea,' said Conan. 'Marcus O'Buachalla [Leinster's head of communications], he needs a shout out at least once a week! 'I was conscious of the lads trying to lift up my shirt and making an absolute mug of me so I was tucking that in. 'Look, to be in the Hogan Stand to lift a trophy with all your mates, family, loved ones, it's incredibly special and something that will live long in the memory. 'I had a few words as Gaeilge but I was told my pronunciation was all over the place, so they told me not to do it! I don't think they wanted me to do a speech, I was told less is more!' Leinster's first trophy lift. Ben Brady / INPHO Ben Brady / INPHO / INPHO Conan was beaming with pride after Leinster's 32-7 win over the Bulls. He was clearly eager to get back into the celebrations but he took the time to underline his pride at their performance on the big occasion 'I'm just delighted for the lads they performed. That's what we spoke about during the week. We didn't want to be outcome-focused, we wanted to be performance-focused. And it think we did that in spades today. 'For 80-odd minutes, I think the lads showed up really well, were incredibly physical and that's what we asked of each other.' Leinster's brilliant start was crucial as they raced into a 19-0 lead, but there was as much satisfaction in shutting the Bulls out with two massive defensive stands just before half time. 'It boils down to man on man and wanting to put your head where you wouldn't put a shovel,' said Conan. 'Getting off the line and trying to whack people. You can lose focus a little bit and think about all the different parts of rugby but ultimately it's a physical game and what we teed ourselves up for all week was the physicality of it and winning a battle and I think we did that throughout. 'Everyone spoke about the threat of their scrum and I thought the lads were great. A few decisions didn't go our way but you look at the lads who came on in the second half were incredible – and the lads who started as well were brilliant 'So unbelievably proud of everyone's effort, not just the lads who played today but everyone who contributed throughout the season.'

Jack Conan: Lads put their heads where you wouldn't put a shovel
Jack Conan said a pumped-up Leinster were determined to give their departing teammates "a special day" at Croke Park after they slayed the Bulls at Croke Park to win the URC Grand Final. Leinster ended a four-year wait for a trophy with a convicing 32-7 victory in front of just under 47,000 supporters on a soggy afternoon in Dublin. It was a sweet end to an up-and-down campaign, and a good way for a raft of players to head for the sunset. Jordie Barrett, Cian Healy, Ross Byrne, Rob Russell and Liam Turner have all now played their final game for the province. "Definitely a bit of relief," Conan said after the final whistle. "We've a long time coming to actually win something so I'm just delighted for everyone who's put in an incredible amount of work, not just the last few months but the last few years. "To be able to give the send-off to Church (Healy), to Ross, to Liamo, to Robbo, to Jordie for everything they've done in their time at Leinster, we wanted to make it a special day." Leinster were clearly on it from the off. In tough conditions, a powerful scrum and impressive intensity ground down Jake White's Bulls who never looked likely to prevail on Irish soil. "It was one of those moments before we ran out, you look each other in the eye and you just knew lads were ready," Conan added. "I'm glad we showed up, performed and silenced a few critics, which was nice. "I think holding them out at half-time, I don't know how many phases it was, it felt like a lot but it probably wasn't as many as that... but just the mental lift that gives you, when you're able to hold them out and they're just going at the line so hard is huge. "Credit to the lads for putting their heads where you wouldn't put a shovel." Ryan Baird admitted the scrutiny and expectation around Leinster weighed heavily in the build-up. Leo Cullen's side had a point to prove on Saturday. Ultimately they got over the line pretty comfortably. "I felt the pressure," said Baird. "I think a lot of us did, but we kept coming back till we got a win. Moment by moment, inch by inch. "Every time I saw someone else make a tackle, it gave me energy to go make one myself.

Arnold Schwarzenegger wants family movie with Patrick Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt
Arnold Schwarzenegger wants family movie with Patrick Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt The 77-year-old actor is open to the idea of a collaboration with his 31-year-old son and son-in-law Arnold Schwarzenegger is keen to make a movie with Patrick Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt. The 77-year-old actor is open to the idea of a collaboration with his 31-year-old son and son-in-law - who married his daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger in 2019 - but insisted they wouldn't do so for the sake of it as the script would have to be good enough. He told E! News of the possibility: "It's one of those things that if there's a great script, then of course, we would do it. "But you can't just make up this stuff. You can't just say, 'OK, let's just put the three together in a movie and not have a great script.' " The Fubar star called on filmmakers to make the project happen. He said: "You don't have to talk about it, just do it." Article continues below Arnold - who, as well as Katherine, 35, and Patrick, 31, also has Christina, 33, and Christopher, 27, with ex-wife Maria Shriver and Joseph Baena, 27, with Mildren Baena - is also open to the idea of following in his son's footsteps and starring in The White Lotus. Asked if he'd be interested in a role in the anthology series, he said: "Whenever I see something good, I am interested in it, so we will see." The former Governor of California is delighted to witness Patrick's success because his son has always been interested in acting. He said: "Patrick always had a love for show business. He has spent a lot of time on the set with me when he was a kid. He was doing his homework in my movie trailer, he was watching me shooting on stage. I think he got the desire right then and there." Meanwhile, the veteran action star is excited about the new season of Fubar, even if he finds certain physical scenes "very, very tough" these days. He teased: "The second season is a lot, a lot of great, great action, and also really funny moments. "The actual sequences are very, very tough to do, especially when you do night shoots and all that. But it's a lot of fun." While Arnold is proud of Patrick, he recently admitted he was shocked when his son stripped naked in The White Lotus. During a joint interview for Variety's 'Actors on Actors' series, he told his son: "I couldn't believe [it]. "I said to myself, 'I'm watching your show, and I'm watching your butt sticking out there.' And all of a sudden, I see the weenie. "What is going on here? This is crazy. "Then I said to myself, 'Well, Arnold, hello. You did the same thing in Conan and Terminator, so don't complain about it.' Article continues below "But it was a shock to me that you were following my footsteps so closely."
