Kim Jong Un Sends 6,000 More To Kursk After Massive Troop Losses In Russia
North Korea is set to send 6,000 personnel, including combat engineers and military workers, to assist in reconstruction efforts in Russia's Kursk region, according to Moscow's top security official. The announcement was made during Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu's visit to Pyongyang, marking his second meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un this month, highlighting deepening ties between the two nations. "Chairman of the State Affairs of the DPRK Kim Jong Un has decided to send 1,000 sappers to Russia to clear mines on Russian territory, as well as 5,000 military construction workers to restore infrastructure destroyed by the occupiers," Shoigu said, according to Russian state media TASS. According to Shoigu, Moscow and Pyongyang also plan to create memorials for the Korean soldiers who died while liberating the Kursk Region. "The heads of our states have decided to perpetuate the feat of the soldiers of the Korean People's Army who took part in the fighting. Specifically, we are talking about the unveiling of memorials in Russia and the DPRK in memory of the Korean soldiers who fell in the battles for the liberation of the Russian territory. In this regard, during the visit, the construction of a memorial complex with a museum in Pyongyang with the participation of the Russian side was discussed," he added. According to news agency TASS, Shoigu is visiting Pyongyang for the third time in nearly three months. He explained this frequency by a high pace of implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement between Moscow and Pyongyang. "First of all, it is related to the intensity of implementation of this agreement, which was actually signed a year ago," he stressed. "The pace that has been set in the implementation of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership agreement, of course, requires constant attention and regular adjustments and decision-making at all levels." According to Business Insider, Kim initially sent some 12,000 troops in the fall of 2024 to Kursk, the oblast where Ukraine entered in August of that year and seized up to 500 square miles of Russian soil. Aided by Pyongyang's soldiers, the Kremlin's forces recaptured almost all of those gains by March 2025, effectively ousting Ukrainian forces from the region by late spring. On June 15, the UK Defense Ministry said in an intelligence update that it estimated that more than 6,000 North Korean troops had been killed or wounded in Kursk.

Shoigu arrives in Pyongyang for talks with Korean leader
Pyongyang - Saba: Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu arrived in the South Korean capital, Pyongyang, on Tuesday to meet with the North Korean leader and discuss the implementation of previously reached agreements. Shoigu is expected to meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, according to TASS news agency. This will be his third visit to North Korea in the past three months. A statement issued by the Russian Security Council Secretariat stated: "Sergei Shoigu arrived in Pyongyang at the special request of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold talks with the North Korean leadership in implementation of the agreements reached during the previous visit on June 4." The statement indicated that these agreements are being implemented within the framework of the "Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement" between Russia and North Korea. Shoigu last visited Pyongyang on June 4, where he also met with Kim Jong-un. The two sides discussed the situation in Ukraine, the reconstruction of the Kursk Oblast in southwestern Russia, and the commemoration of the Korean fighters who contributed to the liberation of the Oblast. Previously, the Russian Security Secretary visited North Korea on March 21, and was also received by Kim Jong-un. Shoigu reported that he delivered a message from President Putin to the North Korean leader. Iranian Parliament approves draft law on strategic treaty with Russia
Tehran - Saba: The Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran (parliament) approved the "General Principles of the Draft Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Treaty between Iran and the Russian Federation" on Wednesday. Iran's Tasnim News Agency reported that "this ratification was approved with 191 votes in favor, 8 against, and 2 abstentions, out of a total of 201 votes." Last April, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law ratifying the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement with Iran, according to a statement published on the official website of the Russian government's laws and decrees. According to the statement, "The agreement was signed on January 17, 2025, during Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian's visit to Moscow." According to the document, the two sides seek to deepen and expand relations in all areas of mutual interest, enhance cooperation in the field of security and defense, and closely coordinate activities at the regional and global levels, consistent with a long-term, comprehensive, and strategic partnership. Speaking at a joint press conference in Jakarta, President Prabowo emphasised that Australia is not only a neighbouring country but also a strategic partner of Indonesia. As such, several agreements signed across various sectors will continue to be implemented. In the field of defence, Indonesia is committed to finalising the ratification process of the defence cooperation agreement that was agreed upon last year, and continuing discussions on ways to improve and enhance collaboration in this area, he said. On the economic front, the President encouraged stronger cooperation in trade and investment, and called for Australia's participation in strengthening Indonesia's agriculture and fisheries sectors, and MSMEs. He expressed his hope that Indonesia's fruits and aquatic products will increasingly meet international market standards, including those of Australia. Inviting Australia to engage more deeply in economic cooperation amid current global uncertainties, the Indonesian leader stressed that in today's volatile global economic environment, the relationship between Indonesia and Australia is becoming increasingly important and will bring greater benefits to both countries and their peoples. The two leaders also discussed opportunities for cooperation in food security, energy transition, critical minerals, and the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem. Notably, President Prabowo emphasised that his government will pursue the implementation of bilateral commitments, including the finalisation of the 2025–2029 Action Plan of the Indonesia – Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement.
