MIDC floats bids for CETP project after 8 years
Nashik: After an almost eight-year delay, the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has finally begun the process to construct a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) in the Ambad industrial area near Nashik city. The MIDC recently floated a tender for the project, which will be located within the Nashik Municipal Corporation limits. Executive engineer for MIDC's Nashik region Jaywant Pawar, while talking to TOI, said they expect the tender process to conclude and the work order to be issued to the chosen contractor within the next two months. The CETP is projected to take a year to complete and be commissioned, aiming to be operational before the Simhastha Kumbh Mela, scheduled between 2026 and 2028. The project is estimated to cost Rs13 crore. State govt also approved the funds for the project. The last date for filing the bid is June 23. The bids are to be opened the next day on June 24. The CETP project is to be constructed by the MIDC to treat industrial effluent of over 150 plating units located in its Ambad industrial areas in the jurisdiction of the NMC. The project will help to reduce the pollution level of the Godavari river as industrial effluent is to be diverted to the CETP. There was demand from the Nashik Industries & Manufacturers' Association (NIMA) and Ambad Industries & Manufacturers' Association (AIMA) to construct the CETP project at the earliest to overcome the treatment of the effluent generated by the plating units in the MIDC areas in Nashik city. Earlier this year in Feb, during his interaction with the industries, member secretary of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Avinash Dhakane had expressed concerns over the delay in construction of the proposed CETP project at Ambad MIDC areas. He also assured to look into the matter and boost the project.
