William T. Bagley, CFTC's Beleaguered First Chairman, Dies at 96
William T. Bagley, a veteran California legislator who moved to Washington to preside over the chaotic first years of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission as its founding chairman, has died. He was 96. He died on June 9 at his home in San Rafael, California, said his wife, Diane. He had dementia for a number of years, she said.

Hedge Funds Ramped Up Bullish Oil Bets Ahead of Israel's Attack
Hedge funds took the most bullish stance on US crude since January in the week before Israel launched strikes against Iran's nuclear program, putting them in a position to profit from this week's jump in oil prices. Money managers increased their net-long position on West Texas Intermediate by 16,056 lots to 179,134 lots in the week ended June 10, data from the Commodity Futures Trading Commission show. Hedge funds' bullish position on Brent crude rose to a 10-week high, according to figures from ICE Futures Europe.

Third CFTC Commissioner to Resign Amid Wave of Departures

CFTC to Dwindle to Two Members After Goldsmith Romero Departure
The five-person Commodity Futures Trading Commission will soon be down to just two members, after Commissioner Christy Goldsmith Romero announced plans to leave the agency at the end of the month. Goldsmith Romero, a Democrat, had already said she would step down when Brian Quintenz, President Donald Trump's nominee for CFTC chair, is confirmed. However, the Senate Agriculture Committee has yet to announce a hearing date for Quintenz, who previously helped lead regulatory policy at a16z, the crypto arm of venture capital giant Andreessen Horowitz.
