Scarlett Johansson Compares Jurassic World Rebirth to Spielberg's Classic
At the world premiere of Jurassic World: Rebirth, Scarlett Johansson spoke about how the movie pays tribute to Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park legacy. The actress also drew a comparison between the two films. Now, many are curious to know what Johansson said. On Tuesday, Scarlett Johansson walked the green carpet at the world premiere of Jurassic World: Rebirth in London. Joined by co-stars Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey, Rupert Friend, and Ed Skrein, Johansson celebrated the launch of the latest chapter in the Jurassic franchise at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. Director Gareth Edwards, screenwriter David Koepp, who also wrote the original Jurassic Park, and producer Frank Marshall were also in attendance. Dressed in a bold pink gown, Johansson spoke enthusiastically about the film. She called it a tribute to Steven Spielberg's early Jurassic movies. Speaking to reporters, she said, 'So I think it really is a love letter to Steven's work. Fans of the Jurassic universe can expect to really feel the DNA of the original 'Jurassic Park' in this film.' (via Variety) Previously, Johansson has been vocal about her enthusiasm for joining the Jurassic universe. In a previous interview with ComicBook, she shared that the original Jurassic Park was one of the first movies she ever saw in theaters. She said, 'It was life-changing. It was mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am. The script is so incredible.' Jurassic World: Rebirth is set five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion. With Earth's ecosystem now largely uninhabitable for dinosaurs, the few that remain have retreated to isolated regions. Among them are three dinosaurs whose genetic material could be the key to developing a life-saving drug. Johansson stars as Zora Bennett, an operative recruited by a pharmaceutical company to lead a high-stakes mission. She is joined by paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, played by Jonathan Bailey, and team leader Duncan Kincaid, portrayed by Mahershala Ali. Clayface: Mike Flanagan Reveals Inspiration Behind DCU Movie
Mike Flanagan has opened up about the upcoming DC Universe movie that he worked on, revealing the Batman: The Animated Series episode that served as a big inspiration. Speaking to ComicBook in a recent interview, Flanagan revealed that the two-part episode 'Feat of Clay' from the 1990s animated series was what initially drew him to the character. 'Of course it was. I mean that is the perfect [story],' said Flanagan of the episodes. ''Feat of Clay,' Ron Perlman, to me, that's it. That two-parter knocked me out. The short answer is that is absolutely what inspired my script. That is the world I wanted to live in. Batman: The Animated Series when I was growing up was my Batman. As much as [Michael] Keaton was my Batman, The Animated Series really was my Batman.' The two-part episode details the origins of Matt Hagen, a.k.a. Clayface. In the episodes, after Hagen, a successful actor, is injured in a car crash, a businessman named Ronald Daggett offers him a mysterious substance to take that allows him to transform into anyone he wants. Hagen soon becomes addicted to it and begins working under Daggett to get more. Despite being inspired by the episode, the status of Flanagan's vision for Clayface remains mostly unknown. The Life of Chuck writer/director originally pitched the movie to James Gunn, who praised the script. However, earlier this month, reports surfaced that Hossein Amini (Drive) was hired to rewrite Flanagan's script. It's unclear how much is changing, but Flanagan hopes that the movie remains true to his original ideas. 'I don't know what they're doing with Clayface. I'm not directing it, and that filmmaker will need to make it their own,' Flanagan said. 'I know that they're doing work on the script. I'm off doing other things now, I really hope it remains true to the spirit of what I wanted it to be. But it's not my movie, so I'll be in the audience with you, anxious to see how it comes out.' Currently, not a whole lot about the movie is known, but the list of directors being looked at does corroborate reports that the film will be a horror-thriller of sorts. On Threads, James Gunn called Clayface a 'DCU story,' meaning that it will be set within the continuity of Gunn and Peter Safran's new shared DC Universe that recently kicked off with the animated Creature Commandos series. Clayface is expected to go into production this coming October, though no casting has yet been announced. The movie currently has a September 11, 2026, release date from Warner Bros. Pictures. Mortal Kombat 2 Early Reactions Similar to Avengers: Endgame, Says Writer
Jeremy Slater, the screenwriter for the upcoming , stated in a new interview that the early responses to the movie are similar to how he reacted to Avengers: Endgame. Mortal Kombat II will serve as the sequel to the 2021 film Mortal Kombat and be the fourth live-action movie in the franchise overall. Like its predecessors, it is based on the video game series of the same name, developed by Ed Boon and John Tobias. Slater drew a comparison between the early reactions to Mortal Kombat II and his own reaction to Avengers: Endgame during an interview with ComicBook. Notably, Endgame debuted in US theaters in April 2019 and went on to become one of the most successful movies of all time. It currently has a 94% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 551 reviews. The movie is also the second-highest-grossing feature film of all time, behind 2009's Avatar. Slater disclosed that Mortal Kombat II had been complete 'for a while' and that they had been 'waiting for the right release date and waiting for the right window.' He added, 'I have been to those test screenings, which are full of Mortal Kombat fans, and watching them react to it the way I reacted to Avengers: Endgame. They were cheering and jumping out of their seats. Every joke is landing, and they are loving it. It's one of the greatest moments of my life. That's why you get into this business.' The release date of 2021's Mortal Kombat was initially delayed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since its premiere, it has garnered a 55% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes after 297 reviews. The movie had a modest to good box office run and did quite well when it became available for streaming. The cast of Mortal Kombat II includes Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, Lewis Tan as Cole Young, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi / Scorpion. The movie premieres in US theaters on October 24, 2025. 'I had my time': Mark Hamill on his appearance in Star Wars franchise future films
Washington DC [US], June 1 (ANI): The actor Mark Hamill is unlikely to return to the Star Wars universe in the future. He played the iconic role of Luke Skywalker in 'Star Wars' films. In a recent interview with ComicBook as quoted by Variety, Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the first three franchise-spawning 'Star Wars' films, discussed his future in the immortal sci-fi universe. While he started his journey with 'A New Hope' in 1977 alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, Hamill has no interest in continuing the saga. "I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called 'Star Wars' 'the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,'" he said. "We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I'm appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters," added Hamill as quoted by Variety. He continued, joking that he "disappeared in ['The Last Jedi'], I left my robes behind. And there's no way I'm gonna appear as a naked force ghost." Hamill's last major appearance as Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars" was as a force ghost in 2019's "Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker." He also made brief appearances as Luke with de-ageing and motion capture effects in "The Mandalorian" and "The Book of Boba Fett", reported Variety. "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope" went on to become one of the most iconic films in history after its 1977 release, inspiring an endless march of spinoff series and follow-up films. As of today, there have been 12 total films, including the original trilogy, and countless TV shows set in the "Star Wars" universe.
