Costco customers campaign for return of beloved $1 treat — despite new food court offerings
Costco's been rolling out plenty of new food court offerings this summer – but many of the wholesaler's most loyal fans are longing for an old favorite. A recent discussion on Reddit focused on the long-gone $1 churro at Costco. This particular social media community is home to over 1.3 million Costco customers. Costco has served churros on and off throughout the years. The treat fell off the food court menu in early 2024 to make way for the viral Double Chocolate Chunk Cookie. At the time, it sold for $1.49. The recent Reddit post about the churro garnered some 5,500 likes, with over 300 members chiming in. 'Who misses the churro????' the original Reddit poster wrote. 'I miss the churro. When they were fresh and crisp, they were great,' one person said. 'Although neither compares to [the] toasted almond ice cream bar.' 6 A recent discussion on Reddit focused on the long-gone $1 churro at Costco. Christopher Sadowski A different user wrote, 'Us big ol' women down in San Antonio miss them.' Other commenters praised the original churro but said it changed for the worse after the 1990s. Nelea Reazanteva – Another reminisced, 'I miss the churro from the '90s. The one pictured was no bueno.' But some customers were unimpressed by the cinnamon-and-sugar dessert and called for the pre-churro pretzel offering. 'Reminder: The pretzels that the churro replaced were so much better,' a customer said. 6 Some commenters praised the original churro but said it changed for the worse after the 1990s. dennizn – A different user wrote, 'I will complain about them replacing the pretzel with the churro until the day I die.' A possible reason the churro hasn't been brought back may be the treat's low price tag. Costco's signature $1.50 hot dogs have stayed at the same price since 1985. 6 Some customers were unimpressed by the cinnamon-and-sugar dessert and called for the pre-churro pretzel offering. Grandbrothers – This summer, Costco announced it would bring back its combo pizza – but in a slightly different form. Costco revives fan-favorite combo pizza in calzone form to mixed member reviews
A beloved Costco food court offering is making a comeback. The Washington-based wholesale club recently announced it's bringing back the combo pizza. Only this time, the food offering is in a slightly different form. Priced at $6.99, the "Combo Calzone" is stuffed with pepperoni, sausage, cheese, onions, peppers, olives and mushrooms. But not everyone is enamored with the newest menu item. Costco members on Reddit shared mostly disdain for the calzone concoction. "Those toppings sound familiar ... It's the combo pizza!" wrote one Reddit user. "We kept asking for it and it looks like they folded." Another Reddit user claimed to have tried it at a Lansing, Michigan, store — calling it "all right." "It's kind of like a big slice folded on itself, so it has a 'crust' … I felt like it was a little overcooked but maybe it was just my location. I don't think it'd be something I would get very often, but I don't regret trying it. I think the regular pizza is better." "Seems like Costco will do anything but bring back the combo pizza." Yet another Reddit user wrote, "Seems like Costco will do anything but bring back the combo pizza." Others commented that the promotional pictures of the new calzone aren't appetizing. "It even looks overcooked in the photo," wrote one user. "Sans picture, the idea of a 'Costco Calzone' is wildly appealing to me, but nothing about that photo makes me want to try it," wrote another person. "Does it even have cheese!?" "Those pictures are objectively unappetizing," said another user. Not everyone was crushing the calzone, however. Said one user, "Had one today, it was delicious!" For more Lifestyle articles, visit Costco announced in January it would be replacing Pepsi products with Coca-Cola fountain drinks later this year. The popular churro was discontinued in early 2024. Not all Costco locations seem to have the new calzone yet. Fox News Digital reached out to Costco for comment on the latest food item.

Costco's New Food Court Item Has Customers Divided: 'It's Offensive'
The Costco food court is the stuff of dreams. A hot dog for $1.50? An entire pizza for under $10? These steals are worth a membership alone. And now, a brand new menu item gracing the Costco food court has people in a tizzy: The Combo Calzone. The new Combo Calzone, a baked turnover or folded pizza, is filled with all the fixings, including cheese, tomato sauce, pepperoni, sausage, onions, peppers, olives, and mushrooms. Quite a mouthful! As the Instagram account @mnmtwinz reports, it features the same exact ingredients as the discontinued Combo Pizza that customers have been begging for a comeback. But, judging by the comments, for some, this news doesn't quite fill the void that the beloved pizza left. "They do combo calzone but not combo pizza ok," wrote one disappointed customer. "Looks like a messy diaper," commented another. While the Combo Calzone has so far only been spotted in Michigan-area Costcos, the new menu item will be rolling out to locations across the country throughout the summer. Although some customers seem underwhelmed with the announcement, others who've gotten their hands on it are already singing its praises. "It was perfection and a steal for $6.99," one customer noted in a Reddit thread. "Had one today, it was delicious!" exclaimed another. "Can't wait for it to get to Ohio!" commented one person. "I liked it, big enough for my spouse and I to share, and a nice spice level on the sausage. Quality ingredients, cheese and sauce wrapped in a beautiful golden dough! What could be better! Reasonably priced as well, will buy again," reviewed one happy customer. Since the rollout, customers have been wondering why Costco turned the beloved Combo Pizza into a Combo Calzone. As it turns out, a food court employee explained in the Reddit thread that the pizzas were assembled on-site, which reportedly introduced contamination risks and wastage issues. The calzones, on the other hand, are shipped frozen from a manufacturing site, circumventing those problems altogether, they claim. So for now, you'll have to enjoy your Combo in calzone form! Costco is teasing fans with a food court comeback — but there's an unwelcome twist
'That don't impress them much.' A new take on a beloved Costco food court item will soon be making an appearance — but fans of the wholesale giant aren't sure how they feel about it. Costco is notorious for adding and removing items from its food court menu. Remember the Polish hot dogs, the Carne Asada Bake or the cinnamon pretzels? May they all rest in peace. The bulk item store announced that the Combo Calzone — a new take on the OG Combo Pizza — will soon be available at its food court, but customers aren't jumping up and down over this news. 3 The response to this new Costco food court item is underwhelming. Instagram/Costco Buys According to Southern Living, the $6.99 food item is stuffed with pepperoni, sausage, cheese, onions, peppers, olives and mushrooms. Although it sounds delicious — in the r/Costco subreddit, most people aren't impressed by the cheesy concoction. 'I actually had it the other day (Lansing, Michigan). It's alright. It's kind of like a big slice folded on itself, so it has a 'crust' (which you can see in the photo). I felt like it was a little overcooked, but maybe it was just my location. I don't think it'd be something I would get very often, but I don't regret trying it. I think the regular pizza is better,' one user wrote. 'They don't look very good imo,' someone else wrote. 3 People online did not hold back when it came to their opinions on Costco and its food court offerings. Eduardo Barraza – 'Seems like Costco will do anything but bring back the combo pizza,' a grumpy customer wrote. 'I love calzones and I like pepperoni and sausage. That picture does not look enticing. I think the coloring is off and there is a distinct lack of cheese in the filling,' quipped another commenter. Yet some tried it and seemed to enjoy it. 'Had one today, it was delicious!' a positive comment read. 3 'They don't look very good imo,' a Reddit user wrote. Instagram/Costco Buys 'Yes! It was perfection…' wrote someone else. In other Costco food news, one TikTokker slammed the store's beloved rotisserie chicken, giving it a surprisingly low rating. Content creator Johnny Novo (@jnov__) made it a point to taste test rotisserie chickens from various grocery stores — including Whole Foods, Wegmans and Costco. Costco's $4.99 chicken came in 10th place. Novo said the chicken was moist, but that it was severely lacking in flavor. 'No one's going to eat this chicken and be blown away,' he concluded.
