Bhubaneswar: Candidates appearing for the main Combined Recruitment Examination conducted by the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC) on Sunday were left confused after finding that questions were not asked from all sections in the syllabus. The exam was conducted for recruitment to the posts of excise and traffic sub-inspectors at 115 centres across the state. Senior officers of the OSSC and district administration monitored the exam. According to the syllabus, the written exam should include questions on Odia language, general English, general studies, general science, current events of national and international importance, history of India and Indian national movement, India and world geography, Indian policy and economy, mental ability and test of reasoning, numerical ability test, arithmetic and basic computer literacy. However, Sunday's exam included questions from sections like arithmetic, logical reasoning, data interpretation, computer and internet awareness, and current affairs. "It did not have questions from Odia language, general English, general science, geography, Indian history, Indian polity and economy, and other sections of the syllabus," said Ranjan Kumar Muduly, a candidate. He added, "I faced difficulty in answering some of the questions. Many of my friends and fellow candidates expressed their displeasure to the invigilators," he added. Another candidate said he did not expect the exam to omit questions on Odia language. "It will suit a candidate who is preparing for banking and related exams. It will not favour arts students. It shows the casual attitude of OSSC," said a candidate requesting anonymity. OSSC chairman Abhay, in a X post, said, "The commission is aware that questions from some parts of the syllabus were not asked.
