Philips Hue Play Wall Washer Will Light Up Your TV Viewing

The new Philips Hue Play Wall Washer in action After leaking on Amazon UK earlier this month, Signify has officially taken the covers off of the Philips Hue Play wall washer. The new Play wall washer is available now in black or white, priced at $219.99 for one or $384.99 for a two-pack Stateside, £169.99 / £299.99 in the UK. That's still on the premium end of the spectrum - especially when you consider the Hue Light Bar comes in at $89.99 - but you are getting a more powerful and dramatically styled bit of kit, which packs the ColorCast projection optics system that debuted with the Twilight bedside lamp late last year. It uses a wide-beam ColorCast setup to drench your walls with gradient lighting that reacts in real time to whatever you're watching or playing on your TV… if you've got a Hue Play HDMI Sync box that is (or, indeed, a compatible LG or Samsung TV with the Hue Sync app.) The new Philips Hue Play Wall Washer ColorCast tech Design-wise, it's pretty leftfield with a matte aluminum housing, transparent front, and sculptural shape that's clearly meant to be seen, not hidden behind a TV. Aside from the Hue Sync action, all of the usual Hue ecosystem features are baked in; so you can just use it as a regular Hue lamp, with nice effects available through the app. You also get granular control in the app, including a slick 3D drag-and-drop tool for adjusting the beam's exact position, plus tweaks for brightness, speed, and intensity. Signify tells us that you can move it closer to the wall for a tighter focus, or pull it back to flood the room. Aside from the new Play wall washer, the smart light specialist has also announced that the new Hue AI assistant is officially live, at least if you're in the Netherlands, Belgium, or Luxembourg. It's coming to the UK in July, and should hit globally by the end of August. The assistant lives inside the Hue app and lets you type or say requests like 'Set the mood for a summer party' or 'Create something cozy for movie night,' and then it will suggest scenes that match the prompt based on existing ones, or by creating a new one. You can also adjust lights with natural language, and Hue says more features - like smart automations and chatbot support - will roll out later this year. We've seen similar functionality from the likes of Govee in recent months too, so it's clearly the 'thing' for smart light brands at the moment.

Philips Hue lights are getting a free AI upgrade, and it could transform your smart lighting setup

Philips Hue lights are a lot of fun, lighting up rooms around your home in a multitude of ways. We love them for how easily they create customized spaces – from ambience to create special moments to lighting up the surround of your TV, all via the app. And now, Signify, the company behind Philips Hue, has even more to offer. While the app is easy to use, it's about to get a whole lot easier and that's thanks to the all-new AI upgrade. The best part? It's totally free. So, if you've got any Philips Hue lights in your home or you're considering an investment, you're going to want to read on. It's been a long time coming since its initial announcement at the beginning of the year, but Philip Hue's AI assistant is finally here – though only in specific regions to begin with. While it's launched in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg already, it will reach the UK in July. And, by the end of August, it'll be available globally. So, how does it work? The Philips Hue generative AI assistant learns how to suit your lighting to your mood, style or occasion based on what you say to it, or what you type into the app. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. The assistant will take what you've told it into consideration and come back with a recommendation for an existing scene from a library of presets, or create an entirely new one, if it sees fit. While additional features haven't launched yet, they're on their way later this year and those include creating schedules and automations, as well as an in-app support via a chatbot. Signify isn't stopping there, though. The company has also introduced the Philips Hue Play Wall Washer that promises "to deliver vibrant, wide-angle gradients and lighting effects" that links into the Hue ecosystem. While it looks like a small speaker, measuring at only 6.2 inches in height and 3.6 inches wide, it is in fact packed with illumination ready to drench your wall. The Philips Hue Play Wall Washer may look like a simple speaker, but its sleek design and powerful light projection will light up your home in a number of eye-catching ways. It's $219.99 for a 1-Pack and $384.99 for a 2-Pack, saving you over $50 when bought as a pair. Plus, it's also available in White. Using ColorCast technology, it projects vibrant, wide-angle gradients and lighting effects wherever you place it, syncing to games, movies or even music when used alongside the Philips Hue Play HDMI Sync Box or Hue Sync desktop app for PC and TV. And when it's not synced, it'll create ambient lighting for a modern look around your home – whether that's for your TV or anywhere you fancy. When you position the Wall Washer closer to the wall, the projection area shrinks and when you pull it further away, it fills up a larger space to suit your style. And you can even control it via the Philips Hue app with a clever 3D drag-and-drop feature meaning you can customize your space even further.

This auto Philips Hue smart light might replace all my home lights

Philips Hue's new Wall Washer smart has me seriously reconsidering every boring white wall at home. This isn't just another smart light you chuck behind the telly and forget about – it's aiming to be the centrepiece. Hue's calling it 'immersive entertainment lighting,' which might actually check out. The Wall Washer throws out rich colour gradients using something Philips dubbed ColorCast projection. This shines beams of light up on to your wall to perfectly coat it however you'd like. It plays nice with the Hue Sync box, the app, your computer, even Alexa, but you can also just switch it on. Design-wise, it's made from aluminium with a matte finish that even looks good even when it's turned off. That's a win, because I've got more than enough plastic glowing tubes already. You get proper control here: drag-and-drop light positioning, customisable intensity, and even the ability to angle the thing however you'd like. Since we're living in 2025, Philips is about to release an AI assistant for Hue Lights. This can supposedly take your vague description ( think 'cosy Sunday', 'disco kitchen', and so on) and turn it into a custom lighting scene. If nothing in the app fits the bill, it'll just make something up on the fly. I'm not sure how useful it'll be, but if that's your thing, it can now take over your walls entirely. The Philips Hue Play Wall Washer is available now in the UK, US, Canada, and EU in black or white. A single unit will cost you $220/£170/€200, while a 2-pack goes for $385/£300/€350. The AI assistant is rolling out in the UK this July, with global access coming by the end of August.
