EastEnders fans rage about ‘continuous blunder' on soap as they beg bosses ‘sort it out' – did you spot it?
EASTENDERS fans were left utterly enraged by a 'continuous blunder' on the soap. As hard as the soap actors try, there is one aspect of their job that has seriously gotten on the wrong side of BBC One viewers. 6 6 6 If the residents of Walford are not sinking back pints in the Vic, they are often seen drinking tea at Kathy's Cafe ... or are they? EastEnders fans have claimed that when some characters are seen with a hot drink either at home or in the 'caf', they are in fact just taking in air from empty cups or mugs. One recent scene saw Phil (Steve McFadden) making George Knight (Colin Salmon) a comforting cuppa in his kitchen. However, the mugs which were meant to have hot drinks appeared to be completely clear of any drink. Fans took to social media fan forum site Reddit in their droves where they fumed at the prop mishap in a thread titled 'Empty Cups!'. One fan wrote: "Dunno if anyone else here can not stand when the actors clearly give someone an empty cup pretending it's a full cup of tea or in the cafe, an empty takeaway cup! "Why can't they just put an actual drink in it! It is one of my biggest pet peeves watching soaps." The soap enthusiast added: "Ben Wadey, sort it out please! " Other fans seemed to completely agree as they flooded the post with affirming comments. An additional user noted: "The way they throw around their clearly empty cups like they're so light and don't need to worry about spillages drives me insane also." Kat Moon takes over the Queen Vic: A new era in EastEnders "Glad it's not just me," stated a third viewer. As a fourth fan insisted: "It is indeed not just you. It's so easily solved, too, it's ridiculous that no one has done this basic stage prep. I'm hoping that changes now with the new regime." While someone else claimed: "Even just water in a cup would make it more believable." This was as a sixth exclaimed: "YES! It's bothered me for so many years, just put some liquid in there! The fake drinking acting is always so obvious." It was announced in September 2024 that Chris Clenshaw - whose final episode credit will air on Friday (13.06.25) - is leaving the BBC One soap after three years as its head, and Ben Wadey, the programme's former Story Editor, will be replacing him. Chris created "mind-blowing plot twists and devastating real-life storylines" - with many coming in 2023, such as the return of Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins), the award-winning Loving and Losing Lola plot which saw Danielle Harold depart as her alter ego Lola Pearce, who died of a brain tumour. Chris also introduced the Knight family, who took over the Queen Vic, making them the first black and mixed heritage family to run a pub on any UK soap. And Colin - the head of the Knights - says Ben is taking at a high point for EastEnders. Speaking to The Mirror, he said: "I have always been a fan. There's great writing, we all work really hard. Article continues below "I think the authenticity of the humour of the East End, it's that you get stuff thrown at you and go, 'Oh that's fine, we'll deal with it', and then it all comes crashing down later, like in life. We're in a very good place with the show and it's fantastic for us." Colin's on-screen wife Harriet Thorpe (Elaine Peacock) said Ben's creativity and collaborative nature will build on Chris' success. She added: "Ben is wonderful. He's creative, collaborative and that's all you need." EastEnders features a diverse cast, and Colin said Ben's focus will be for the younger actors to be in the spotlight more. He teased: "It's great, we watch the show, we learn, we collaborate. It's nice to see the youngsters coming forward. They're all brilliant, amazing actors." Ben is returning to EastEnders from Channel 4 where he was a Commissioning Executive, overseeing Hollyoaks and a number of original dramas, including Generation Z. He originally worked at EastEnders as the show's Story Editor, and he worked on the soap's 35th anniversary in 2020, as well as a special episode that focused on Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) as she struggled with her alcoholism. Speaking about his new role as Executive Producer, Ben said: "I'm thrilled to be returning to EastEnders at such an exciting time for the show. "Having grown up watching and loving EastEnders, it sparked my passion for television, and I feel I've known the residents of Walford my entire life – so to lead this iconic BBC soap into its next chapter is a true privilege. AN EastEnders favourite has been kicked out in a fiery row after his 'cheating' was exposed. The BBC soap is no stranger to showing dramatic love lives in Albert Square. 4 4 4 George Knight (Colin Salmon) faced the wrath of wife Elaine (Harriet Thorpe) after a secret came to light. Up until now, Elaine believed George had been at a boxing match on Christmas Day - which explained blood being on him. George's son Junior (Micah Balfour) returned to Walford and the truth was revealed. The pub landlord had actually visited Junior's mother Sabrina - and kept it from Elaine. He'd hoped to uncover the reasons behind Junior's behaviour - such as sleeping with George's ex-wife Cindy (Michelle Collins). It particularly stung for Elaine, having gotten past George hiding that he was helping Cindy with new venture The Albert. Behind closed doors, he tried to explain himself - but Elaine wasn't having any of it. "You expect me to believe she just threw herself at you?" Elaine said, before adding: "You must think I came down in the last rainfall." George insisted he'd only visited to talk, but Sabrina misread the situation and tried to kiss him. He claimed the bleeding came when he pulled away and Sabrina slapped him - catching his nose. CORONATION STREET Shelley/Peter/Lucy: Peter Barlow took the concept of a love triangle and ran with it in Coronation Street - extending it to bigamy. He was in a relationship with Shelley Unwin but started dating Lucy Richards, and quickly married her after she fell pregnant with his son, Simon. But it didn't stop him also marrying Shelley, but he was eventually caught when Lucy turned up in Weatherfield and the two women confronted him. Ken/Deidre/Mike: Back in 1982, Deirdre Barlow started sleeping with her husband's nemesis Mike Baldwin in secret, before confessing all a year later. When Mike turned up at the marital home, Deirdre was being throttled by her husband who then kicked her out, but years later they reconciled. Maria/Aidan/Eva: In 2017, Aidan Connor started sleeping with girlfriend Eva Price's best friend, Maria Connor. Eva eventually found out and she decided to take revenge by faking a pregnancy, spending his money and planned to confront him on their wedding day. But she had a change of heart when a remorseful Aidan confessed, and decided to marry him anyway, only for Maria to arrive and expose her fake pregnancy. EMMERDALE Ross/Debbie/Pete: Debbie Dingle found herself torn between two brothers, Ross and Pete Barton in 2015 in Emmerdale. She eventually decided to marry Pete but yet again, a soap wedding day was ruined when the groom learned of his bride's betrayal via a recording played at the wedding. Chrissie/Robert/Aaron: Robert Sugden was married to Chrissie White and all seemed well - until he began a steamy affair with Aaron Dingle. Robert's ex Katie Sugden almost exposed the affair - but fell to her death before she had the chance. However, a guilty Aaron eventually cracked and told Chrissie about the affair - after which she announced it to the whole pub. Elaine ultimately asked George to leave - saying she didn't think he loved her enough. When he continued to try and smooth things over, Elaine threw a glass at the wall and screamed: "Get out!" After a pep talk from Linda (Kellie Bright) and Johnny (Charlie Suff), Elaine went to find George - only to be left heartbroken by seeing him comforting an upset Cindy. EastEnders actor Colin Salmon has 'shut down' critics after some of his co-stars were apparently BOOED at the Soap Awards over the weekend. On Saturday night (May 31 2025), the stars of the UK's much-loved soaps gathered at the Hackney Empire in London to attend the annual star-studded bash. And it saw EastEnders stars Rudolph Walker and Angela Wynter, who play Patrick and Yolande Trueman, won Best On-Screen Partnership on the night. Some fans have taken to social media and a forum to discuss how they had apparently heard that the pair had been booed on stage as they received their gong. So Colin, who plays George Knight in EastEnders, took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to reveal exactly what happened. Colin said: 'Just want to clarify; No one was booing Rudi and Angela at the@SoapAwards we were singing RUUUDI , RUUUDI , RUUUDI. 'Which obviously confused some people. The returning annual event took place on May 31 - but viewers at home won't see the ceremony on screens until June 5. 4 4 It saw EastEnders stars Rudolph Walker and Angela Wynter win Best On-Screen Partnership for playing Patrick and Yolande. Fans wrote online how audience members had seemingly booed the pair upon being announced as the winners. Taking to X, Colin Salmon - aka George Knight - refuted this and said it had not been the case. He wrote: "Just want to clarify; No one was booing Rudi and Angela at the@SoapAwards we were singing RUUUDI , RUUUDI , RUUUDI. "Which obviously confused some people. "Appreciate some were concerned, as we should be, but it's all good." He added: "#NoDrama#WeLovePatrickandYolande @bbceastenders." One of Colin's followers penned: "Thankyou for shutting the rumours down Colin xx." Another shared: "Good to know. Congrats on the wins, well deserved!" While a third chimed in: "Thank you for saying this colin, congrats on the win for best soap." The 40th anniversary also managed to clutch the Scene of the Year thanks to Angie's shock return. Steve McFadden a won a trophy for Best Dramatic Performance as Phil Mitchell although he did not attend the ceremony.
