Browns Make Decision On Shedeur Sanders After Two Speeding Incidents

Browns Make Decision On Shedeur Sanders After Two Speeding Incidents originally appeared on The Spun. Colin Cowherd says he's "done" with Shedeur Sanders following the rookie quarterback's two speeding incidents in Ohio this month. But are the Cleveland Browns? The Fox Sports 1 host said on his Thursday, June 19 show that he is officially done with the 23-year-old rookie quarterback. "Shedeur Sanders got caught speeding over 100 MPH. Don't minimize it, don't pander. This is not good for a quarterback," he said on his "The Herd" show on Thursday afternoon, June 19. "I do not cling to opinions. New information, new opinion. I don't think about him the same. When you fall to (pick) 144 in the draft, and then you try to match that number behind the wheel of a car, I don't think the same. "You ignored signs about Manziel and Baker. And, apparently, based on the traffic violation, Shedeur was avoiding some signs, too - that say stop. I'm not sure he's mature enough. Now I'm going to have to like Kenny Pickett." But while Cowherd has said he's done with Sanders, are the Cleveland Browns done, too? The Browns are standing by Sanders - for now. A spokesman for the Cleveland Browns told that Sanders is handling his speeding tickets, while remaining a member of the franchise. "He is taking care of the tickets," team spokesman Peter John-Baptiste told the media outlet. Sanders, who slipped into the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft - he was the second quarterback taken by the Browns, who selected Dillon Gabriel out of Oregon - is still facing an uphill battle to make the roster. The Browns have Gabriel, Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett also at the quarterback position. Flacco and Pickett feel like locks to make the Week 1 roster. So, it could be Gabriel and Sanders fighting it out for the QB3 spot. Cleveland could decide to keep four quarterbacks, which is apparently a possibility, according to team insider Mary Kay Cabot, but that would be a rarity for an NFL team. 'Thanks in part to low base salaries and cap numbers for all of them, they can afford to keep all four from a financial standpoint, and it also makes sense from a roster building standpoint,' Cabot wrote. Sanders has work to do off the field, though. He must pay a $250 fine for the fourth-degree misdemeanor or fight the ticket in Strongsville Mayor's Court on July 3, following his latest speeding incident. The Browns are coming off a highly disappointing 3-14 season in 2024. Colin Cowherd Slams Shedeur Sanders' 101 MPH Blunder

Colin Cowherd Slams Shedeur Sanders' 101 MPH Blunder originally appeared on Athlon Sports. When you are as polarizing as quarterback Shedeur Sanders, almost everything you do gets put into the spotlight. Advertisement That's exactly what the Cleveland Browns rookie has been dealing with throughout the last couple of years. Most recently, he was cited for speeding early Tuesday morning for allegedly driving over 100 mph. According to police records, Sanders was traveling at 101 mph, 41 miles over the speed limit, and was stopped at about 12:24 a.m. Fox personality Colin Cowherd is notorious for having loud takes on NFL quarterbacks, particularly towards younger players and he unleashed on Sanders following the news. 'Mike Tomlin often says two is a trend. Can't score up three or four times, two is a trend,' Cowherd said. 'Just two times. I'm not sure if I need two times when you're a young quarterback. One bad judgment turns me off, but I have now, in the last couple months, two things that really turn me off with Shedeur Sanders.' Advertisement To Cowherd's defense, an NFL quarterback is typically viewed as the face of the franchise, and being a leader is vital. Despite the talent Sanders has shown on film, Cowherd is out on him, saying he's not sure if the former Colorado Buffalo is mature enough. 'That cringy awful 'legendary' draft room. Bro, you're a B prospect. Your dad is 'Primetime' who led with his ego for years, you have to have a little self-awareness. I had more than one GM say 'total turnoff.'. It's not the end of the world, but it's a bad look,' Cowherd said. 'And now this, 100 miles an hour. Yup, all you fanboys, go ahead, Manziel, Baker, and Deshaun Watson, defended it to the hilt on your Reddit account. Sorry, don't minimize it, this is not good for a quarterback.' Sanders already faced an uphill battle to see the field as a rookie, but this likely hurts his chances, at least for the near future. The Browns clearly believe in him, however, veteran Joe Flacco is expected to start week one with Kenny Pickett not too far behind. Levels Of Expectations For Cam Ward

Levels Of Expectations For Cam Ward originally appeared on Athlon Sports. What is quarterback Cam Ward going to do? Many have had that question when it comes to Ward ever since he was drafted first overall in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Tennessee Titans. Advertisement One person who has very high expectations for Ward in his first year is Fox Sports' Colin Cowherd. He spoke very highly of Ward on his show, "The Herd with Colin Cowherd," and even said, "Ward changes outcomes," and "Tennessee will be a playoff team." Those are lofty expectations to put on a rookie quarterback. That's not to say Cam Ward isn't capable, but more to say that it's a lot of things to put on his plate. Warren Moon, a Hall of Fame quarterback, has a different perspective when it comes to Ward and expectations. "In order for you to do well, you have to depend on other people doing their jobs for you as far as the offensive line getting protection, having a running game that takes some of the pressure off of you so you don't have to throw the ball every down and then a good defense being able to get you the football back, getting turnovers and getting you good field position," Moon said on the "Touring The AFC South" podcast. "All those things go along with helping out a young quarterback to do well." Moon points out that the surroundings will be the thing to bring out some of the better results for Ward's rookie season. While Ward may be a special quarterback and able to cover up some things, it would be better for him to have a stable cast around him to allow him to mature, get comfortable and be the best version of himself on the field. Advertisement How the cast around him plays is a question mark at this point, but the Titans went out and added some pieces offensively to try and set him up for success. Now, the question is how those pieces perform. All of these things tie together to the success of Ward and the Titans this season. Colin Cowherd Announces His Final Decision On Shedeur Sanders

Colin Cowherd Announces His Final Decision On Shedeur Sanders originally appeared on The Spun. Fox Sports 1 host Colin Cowherd has announced a final decision on Shedeur Sanders. Sanders, the Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback, was pulled over by police early on Tuesday morning. Sanders, a fifth round NFL Draft pick, was allegedly driving more than 100 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. He was issued a citation and could appear in court, if he chooses to fight it. Advertisement It's safe to say that Sanders' chances of making the Browns have taken a hit. On Thursday, Fox Sports 1 host Colin Cowherd reacted to the incident, making it clear where he now stands on the Cleveland Browns quarterback. Colin Cowherd speaking Cowherd announced that he is officially "done" with the Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback following his speeding incident in Northern Ohio earlier this week. Cowherd, who has been critical of several Browns quarterbacks in the past, admitted that he can no longer "trust" the son of the legendary NFL star, Deion Sanders. "Shedeur Sanders got caught speeding over 100 MPH. Don't minimize it, don't pander. This is not good for a quarterback," he said on his "The Herd" show on Thursday afternoon, June 19. Advertisement "I do not cling to opinions. Now I'm going to have to like Kenny Pickett." The Browns appear to be sticking with Sanders for now, though it wouldn't at all be surprising to hear that this speeding incident impacts his chances of making the roster. Advertisement Sanders, who starred collegiately at Colorado and Jackson State, is already facing an uphill battle. He's probably the No. 4 quarterback on the roster right now, behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel, who was drafted ahead of him. The No. 4 quarterback on the roster can't afford to get caught speeding more than 100 MPH. Analyst Claims Caitlin Clark Will Become Most Popular U.S. Athlete, Already More Famous Than All but 3 NBA Stars

Analyst Claims Caitlin Clark Will Become Most Popular U.S. Athlete, Already More Famous Than All but 3 NBA Stars originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Some of the most frequently treaded topics in sports, like who is or is not a superstar (for instance, Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers), or which player is the greatest of all time between Michael Jordan, LeBron James and Kobe Bryant can grow tedious quickly based on the shallow nature of those discussions and how frequently debate shows on television and radio regurgitate them when in need of content. Advertisement But sometimes discussions about popularity and fame can find compelling lanes to occupy, such as when debating where a female athlete like Indiana Fever point guard Caitlin Clark stacks up in the pantheon of professional sports figures in the United States. Fox Sports analysts Colin Cowherd, of "The Herd" and Nick Wright of "First Things First" delved into that conversation on Wednesday, June 18. The two came out of the discussion agreeing that Clark is already in the upper echelon of all athletes -- male and female -- across all of American sports and that she could potentially elevate to No. 1 on that list in a few years time, once a small handful of players who outrank her in that regard retire. "I've decided that [Clark's] star can't be up high enough," Wright said during a guest appearance on Cowherd's show. "Once Steph [Curry] and LeBron [James] retire, will there be an active American athlete, that's not a quarterback, that's more famous than her?" Advertisement "No," Cowherd responded. "No, there won't." "I think she will be more famous than every baseball player -- she might already be, in this country -- every hockey player, all of the U.S. Men's National [Soccer] Team and every football player that isn't really Patrick Mahomes and maybe Lamar [Jackson], Josh [Allen] -- like, there's only a few," Wright continued. "And I think she's already more famous than every NBA player but [Kevin Durant], Steph and LeBron. And I don't see any of those [other] guys catching her. I think she is a supernova of fame and talent." "And it is not anti-Angel Reese or the WNBA to acknowledge [Clark] is the Tiger [Woods] of 20 years ago on the [PGA] Tour," Cowherd added. "The ratings disappear [when Clark is not playing]. It's nothing against the WNBA. [Clark] literally is changing the entire league economy."
