Pak delegation interacts with Chatham House
LONDON: A high-level Pakistani parliamentary delegation, led by former Foreign minister and Chairman Pakistan People Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, engaged with eminent members of the British think tank, academia, and policymaking community at the prestigious Chatham House, one of the UK's leading think tanks focused on foreign and security policy issues. The closed-door discussion was held under the 'Chatham House Rules,' which is used around the world to encourage inclusive and open dialogue in meetings. Bhutto Zardari and other delegation members conveyed Pakistan's perspective on the recent escalation in South Asia while expressing serious concern about India's unprovoked military aggression that resulted in civilian casualties and posed a significant threat to regional stability. They underscored that India's actions constituted a clear violation of Pakistan's sovereignty, international law, and the United Nations Charter. The Pakistan delegation said that Pakistan's armed forces, with the full support of the people of Pakistan, had given a befitting response to India, demonstrating Pakistan's resolve to defend its sovereignty, and thwarting India's ambitions to set any new so-called 'normal' in the region. Bhutto Zardari strongly denounced India's unilateral and illegal suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty. He warned that the weaponisation of water undermines international norms and sets a perilous precedent. He urged the international community to take notice of this alarming development and hold India to account for its actions. The delegation noted that the pending resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute remains the principal stumbling block to lasting peace and stability in the region. They urged the international community to support meaningful dialogue and ensure respect for international commitments and human rights. The other members of the delegation include Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr Musadik Masood Malik; Chairperson, Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and former Minister for Information and Climate Change, Senator Sherry Rehman; Chairperson, National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and former Foreign Minister, Hina Rabbani Khar; former Minister for Commerce, Defence and Foreign Affairs, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan; MQM's Parliamentary Leader in the Senate and former Minister for Maritime Affairs, Senator Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari, Senator Bushra Anjum Butt, former Foreign secretaries, Ambassador Jalil Abbas Jilani and Ambassador Tehmina Janjua. High-level delegations to visit world capitals from Jun 2 to project Pakistan's stance on Indian aggression
The high-level delegations are scheduled to start their visit to world capitals from Monday to project Pakistan's perspective on the recent Indian aggression. Formed purusant to the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the delegations would visit New York, Washington DC, London, Brussels and Moscow from 2 June 2025, according to a Foreign Office press release. A nine-member multiparty delegation is led by Chairman Pakistan People's Party, and former Foreign Minister, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. The other members of the delegation include Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Masood Malik; Chairperson of Senate Standing Committee on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and former Minister for Information and Climate Change Senator Sherry Rehman; Chairperson of National Assembly Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and former Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar; former Minister for Commerce, Defence and Foreign Affairs, Engineer Khurram Dastgir Khan; former Minister for Maritime Affairs, Senator Syed Faisal Ali Subzwari; and Senator Bushra Anjum Butt. The delegation also includes two former Foreign Secretaries, Ambassador (R) Jalil Abbas Jilani, who also served as Caretaker Foreign Minister, and Ambassador (R) Tehmina Janjua. Another delegation, led by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatemi, will visit Moscow from June 2, 2025. The delegations will highlight Pakistan's responsible and restrained conduct – seeking peace with responsibility – in the face of India's reckless and belligerent actions in violation of international law. They will also highlight that dialogue and diplomacy should take precedence over conflict and confrontation. The delegations will underscore the imperative for the international community to play its due role in promoting a lasting peace in South Asia. The need for immediate resumption of the normal functioning of the Indus Waters Treaty will also be a key theme of the delegations' outreach. The delegations will engage in a series of meetings with the leadership of international bodies, public office holders, senior officials, parliamentarians, think tanks, media and diaspora.

According to a press release issued Thursday, both sides agreed to formulate a comprehensive, impact-driven strategy with a focus on carbon credit mobilisation, climate innovation, and outcomes-based project implementation. Malik assured ADB of full ministerial cooperation and active engagement in the strategy's development. Kubo reaffirmed ADB's support, highlighting the Bank's efforts to help Developing Member Countries invest in low-carbon technologies, boost carbon finance readiness, and access international carbon markets.

Pakistan, ADB eye carbon markets as next frontier for green growth
Authorities in Islamabad and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have agreed to chart a collaborative strategy on carbon markets and climate innovation. The development came during a meeting between Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, Dr Musadik Malik, with a high-level delegation of the ADB, led by Toru Kubo, Senior Director of Climate Change and Sustainable Development (CCSD), to explore collaborative opportunities in carbon markets and forge the path for a new climate strategy grounded in economic and environmental synergy. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Climate Change, the meeting marked a significant step forward in aligning Pakistan's national climate strategy with international best practices and market-driven climate finance solutions. Pakistan receives $500 million from ADB for climate programme 'Both sides agreed to formulate a comprehensive, mutually aligned climate change strategy, with a specific focus on carbon credit mobilisation, climate innovation, and outcomes-based project implementation,' read the statement. During the meeting, Malik assured ADB of full ministerial cooperation and hands-on involvement in the formulation of the strategy, emphasising that it must remain impact-driven, transparent, and results-oriented. Toru Kubo reiterated ADB's strong support, noting that the bank continues to assist its Developing Member Countries (DMCs) by catalysing investments in low-carbon technologies, advancing carbon finance readiness, and enhancing the ability of countries like Pakistan to access and benefit from global carbon markets. The two sides also discussed how Pakistan can strategically link Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to its carbon finance agenda, thereby transforming climate action into a source of economic strength and international credibility. 'As global interest in carbon markets surges, Pakistan is poised to become a regional pioneer by strategically positioning itself in this evolving financial ecosystem,' read the statement.

Pakistan invited to Nepal climate forum
Pakistan and Nepal reaffirmed their commitment to regional climate cooperation during a meeting between Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik and Nepalese Ambassador Rita Dhital on Tuesday. The meeting focused on regional peace and environmental collaboration, with the visiting ambassador extending an invitation to Dr Malik to attend Nepal's inaugural regional Climate Dialogue Forum. The event, which will bring together climate ministers from across South Asia and beyond, aims to conclude with a non-binding declaration on climate action.
