When Is Tom Hiddleston's ‘The Life Of Chuck' Coming To Streaming?

Tom Hiddleston in "The Life of Chuck." NEON The Life of Chuck, based on a story by Stephen King and starring Tom Hiddleston, is new in theaters. When will it be available to watch at home? Rated R, The Life of Chuck opened in limited release on June 6 and expanded to 1,072 theaters nationwide on Jan. 13. The summary for the sci-fi fantasy reads, 'From the hearts and minds of Stephen King and Mike Flanagan comes The Life of Chuck, the extraordinary story of an ordinary man. 'This unforgettable, genre-bending tale celebrates the life of Charles 'Chuck' Krantz as he experiences the wonder of love, the heartbreak of loss, and the multitudes contained in all of us.' Based on King's story of the same name, The Life of Chuck is written and directed by Flanagan (Netflix's The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass). The film also stars Jacob Tremblay, Benjamin Pajak and Cody Flanagan as the younger versions of Chuck, as well as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Mia Sara, Karen Gillan, Carl Lumbly, David Dastmalchian, Matthew Lillard, Harvey Guillén and Mark Hamill. The first stop for The Life of Chuck in the home entertainment marketplace will be on digital streaming via premium video on demand. The Life of Chuck's studio, Neon, generally has a six-week window between the time its films open in theaters and their arrivals on PVOD. For example, director Osgood Perkins' hit horror thriller Longlegs from Neon was released in theaters on July 12, 2024, and arrived on PVOD about six weeks later, on Aug. 23. In addition, Perkins' successful horror comedy The Monkey opened in theaters on Feb. 21 and arrived on PVOD just shy of six weeks later, on April 4. Even though The Life of Chuck opened in theaters on June 6, it likely won't arrive on digital streaming about six weeks after the film's wide date of June 13, which follows the same sort of pattern as Neon's Oscar-winning hit Anora. Anora initially opened in limited release on Oct. 8, 2024, and expanded to a wide release three weeks later, on Nov. 8. Anora then made its debut on PVOD just under six weeks later, on Dec. 17. Since The Life of Chuck expansion didn't happen until June 13, the film should debut on PVOD sometime around July 15, since new films on PVOD tend to arrive on Tuesdays. Since Neon has a deal with Hulu to exhibit its films first on streaming video on demand, Hulu will be the first platform to stream The Life of Chuck. Generally, viewers who want to stream Neon's films on Hulu are in for a long wait. For example, Sydney Sweeney's Immaculate, which opened in theaters on March 22, 2024, didn't arrive on Hulu until almost five months later, on Aug. 16. Anora, meanwhile, arrived on Hulu a little bit quicker. Anora, again, expanded to a wide release on Nov. 8, 2024, and about four and a half months later, on March 17, it arrived on Hulu. In all likelihood, Hulu and Neon agreed to a quicker release to capitalize on Anora's Oscar success, since it won five statuettes at the 2025 Academy Awards — including Best Picture, Best Director for Sean Baker and Best Actress for Mikey Madison — on March 2. More than likely The Life of Chuck will take the five-month-long hike to Hulu, meaning the film could arrive on Hulu around Nov. 14, since new films on SVOD releases tend to come out on Fridays. There is also the possibility that it could take two months longer before The Life of Chuck arrives on Hulu, given the inordinate amount of time it took for Longlegs to debut on the streamer. Longlegs, which was released July 12, didn't arrive on Hulu until seven months later, on Feb. 14. If The Life of Chuck takes the Longlegs route, then viewers may not be able to stream it on Hulu until sometme between Jan. 9 to Jan. 16, 2026. The Life of Chuck is playing in theaters in limited release.

We May Be a Step Closer to Seeing the Original ‘Star Wars' Again

Fans can argue day and night about Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy but there's no denying she pulled an awesome move earlier this week. As previously reported, the British Film Institute had been advertising that it would be screening a very rare print of George Lucas' Star Wars from its original theatrical run. It's the version of the film you can basically never see anymore, at least not officially, so Kennedy showed up at the event to change that. 'I'm here to make sure you don't think this is an illegal screening,' Kennedy said at the event, according to The Independent. As most of us know, in the nearly 50 years since the release of Star Wars, Lucas spent lots of time tinkering with the film. For example, he added the 'Episode IV' to it, showing that it was part of a larger series. In 1997, he made many radical changes as part of the Special Editions and has even made tweaks in the years beyond that. And, because those are the versions Lucas believes to be the best, those are the only ones that Lucasfilm will now release officially. Fans, however, have long sought out ways to get the original with no subtitle, no CG characters in Mos Eisley, Han shooting first, etc. 'I don't think there's another one like it, it's that rare.' Kathleen Kennedy introduces our BFI Film on Film Festival Opening Night film, Star Wars (1997), screening from an original 1977 Technicolor print. — BFI (@BFI) June 13, 2025 'It's incredible folklore,' Kennedy said at the event. 'Even when I came into the company, there was endless conversation about where everything was, and what was in fact the first print? And it's quite remarkable, what you're going to see is in fact the first print, and I'm not even sure there's another one quite like it. It's that rare. There's so much tinkering that's gone on over the years, and things that George [Lucas] decided, 'I'm gonna change this, I'm gonna try that.' And then, everybody kind of lost track of what it was.' 'It's quite remarkable to be able to experience this exactly the way it was in 1977. This is really special,' she added. What would be even more special, of course, is if Kennedy and her Lucasfilm team would release the original versions of the films to fans. Yes, we get it, they are flawed and raw but that's what makes them so good. There's no word on that happening but, maybe, Kennedy's endorsement of this recent screening is the first step in it taking place. Read more about the event over at The Independent.
