Kroger announces it will build the first grocery store in this part of far north Fort Worth
Kroger announced Monday it will be built a grocery store in the Sendera Ranch community in far north Fort Worth.
The Kroger Marketplace is expected to break ground in 2025. It is unclear when the store could open. Kroger also plans to build another Marketplace in Little Elm, west of Frisco.
The new Kroger will be part of Sendera Rancho Marketplace, an almost 20-acre shopping center planned for the northeast corner of Rancho Canyon Way and Sendera Ranch Boulevard. Kroger is listed as a developer of the property in city records.
Typically between 100,000 and 113,000 square feet, Kroger's Marketplace stores are larger than its traditional locations. Marketplace stores also sell a wider range of products, including home goods, electronics and clothes to create a 'one-stop shopping' experience.
Residents of north Fort Worth have long pushed for new retail development, which has lagged behind residential construction in the area. Aside from a Walmart Supercenter at 2401 Avondale Haslet Road, the closest grocery store to Sendera Ranch is an H-E-B in Alliance Town Center — a roughly 20 minute drive south of the community.
Some residents have fought against additional development, as hundreds of new homes have brought more residents and traffic to the area.
Another new shopping center, Sendera Ranch Neighborhood Shops, is planned for the northwest corner of the intersection of Avondale Haslet Road and Sendera Ranch Boulevard. It is unclear what type of retail development the roughly 16.5-acre development could bring to the area.
A Kroger Marketplace at the corner of 113 E. Bonds Ranch Road, along U.S. 287, is expected to open in 2025. The $10 million project, which will anchor the Bonds Ranch Marketplace shopping center, broke ground in November 2023.
Kroger has over 200 stores in Texas. One of the largest grocers in the country, the company's annual profit was over $3 billion in 2023. Cincinnati-based Kroger's attempted merger with rival Albertson's was blocked by a federal court last week. Albertson's is now suing Kroger for breaching their merger agreement.
