Cincinnati Reds star Christian Encarnacion-Strand becomes first MLB player with hits before and after rain delay

On Friday, 2025, at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Christian Encarnacion-Strand made a strong return to the Cincinnati Reds lineup. After being out for nearly two months due to injury, the 25-year-old player came back with a performance that no one else in Major League Baseball (MLB) has matched this season. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now What he did across two days left fans and teammates amazed. Christian Encarnacion-Strand hits walk-off after rain delay in Reds comeback win Christian Encarnacion-Strand, also called CES, returned to the Major League roster on Friday night for the start of the Reds' series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The game began on June 7, but rain forced a pause after the sixth inning. Before that delay, CES had already made a big impact. He hit a single in the fourth inning, and later in the sixth, he smashed a game-tying solo home run. The game was continued on Saturday afternoon, June 8, and that's when CES made more history. In the bottom of the ninth inning, he hit a walk-off double to center field, giving the Reds a 4-3 win. According to Local 12 WKRC, no other MLB player this season has done what CES did — getting a hit before a rain delay and then hitting a walk-off hit when the same game resumed the next day. Also Read: Christian Encarnacion-Strand shines in first game back after injury setback Christian Encarnacion-Strand had a rough start earlier this year. In his first 15 games of the 2025 season, he hit just .158 with only 2 home runs. On April 17, he was placed on the 15-day injured list due to back inflammation. After a long recovery, he began a rehab assignment on May 22 with the ACL Reds, and then played 10 games in Triple-A Louisville, where he hit .324 with two home runs, five doubles, and seven RBIs. His strong return drew praise. After the win, Reds manager David Bell told reporters, 'That's a special way to come back. He stayed patient, worked hard, and gave us a big win.' CES himself also spoke after the game, saying, 'It feels great to be back. I just wanted to help the team win.'

Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's MLB odds around the Reds vs. Guardians odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets. Season series: Reds lead 3-0 with a sweep May 16-18 at home The Reds completed a 3-game sweep over the Arizona Diamondbacks with a 4-2 victory Sunday. SS Elly De La Cruz went 1-for-8 in the series, but the team scored 21 runs in the 3 games. 1B Christian Encarnacion-Strand homered in each game and is 8-for-17 (.471) with 3 HRs and 8 RBIs over the last 4 games. The Guardians avoided a 3-game sweep by the Houston Astros with a 4-2 winner Sunday. C Bo Naylor went 3-for-4 with his eighth homer to lead the charge. The Guardians are 5-5 over the last 10 games. They scored 4-plus runs in each of those wins and 3 or fewer runs in each of the losses. Reds at Guardians projected starters LHP Wade Miley vs. RHP Luis Ortiz Miley (0-0, 18.00 ERA), who had Tommy John surgery in 2024, makes his first start (second appearance). Miley struggled to get minor league hitters out, and he's clearly not the same pitcher that 3B Jose Ramirez is 2-for-15 (.133) against at the age of 38. The magic number is 4 for Cleveland, and they'll hit it Monday. I'm not interested in either option. PASS. The wind is blowing out at the park formerly known as "The Jake." So I'm a little surprised to see the number only at 8.5. Both teams are 3-7 O/U in their last 10, but I'll take the OVER 8.5 (-120) based on the weather and less-than-tantalizing pitching matchup. Reds Make Roster Announcement Ahead of Astros Series originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Cincinnati Reds reinstated first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand from the injured list Friday and designated catcher Austin Wynns for assignment in the corresponding move. Encarnacion-Strand had been sidelined since April 17 due to lower back inflammation. After a lengthy rehab assignment, he's been cleared to return to the Reds' active roster. However, he showed encouraging signs at the plate during his rehab stint with Triple-A Louisville, going 12-for-37 (.324) with two home runs over 10 games. The Reds kept Wynns on the roster longer than expected, reportedly out of concern he might be claimed off waivers if exposed. In 18 games with Cincinnati, Wynns hit .400 with a 1.142 OPS, three home runs, and 11 RBIs, but saw limited playing time following Stephenson's return. Reds activate Christian Encarnacion-Strand from IL. What it means for the roster

Christian Encarnacion-Strand is back up with the Cincinnati Reds and in the starting lineup. In order to make room for "CES," the Reds seem likely to lose out on having catcher Austin Wynns' services. Encarnacion-Strand was activated Friday off the injured list, the Reds announced Friday. Encarnacion-Strand had been on the IL since April 17 (back inflammation). "CES" batted .324 with a 1.095 OPS in his 10-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville. His hot hitting at that level included two home runs, five doubles and seven RBIs. Advertisement Reds Elly De La Cruz Diamondbacks Reds' Elly De La Cruz is returning from mourning his sister's death. Here's what we know Reds Diamondbacks Friday how to watch What channel are the Reds on? How to watch Reds vs. Diamondbacks on Friday night Reds trade W&W: Cincinnati Reds going nowhere fast, need to trade players even faster "We'll see. He was swinging the bat very well on his rehab while he was in Triple-A," Reds manager Terry Francona said Friday. "If he's able to stay in the strike zone, he's got kinda silly power to all fields. That would be welcome. It maybe allows us to start moving (Spencer) Steer around because when he's healthy enough to do it, maybe it gives us a few more options." Christian Encarnacion-Strand batted .324 with a 1.095 OPS in his 10-game rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville. His hit two home runs with five doubles and seven RBIs. Following his own early-season injury troubles, Steer has been stuck at first base. Advertisement The corresponding roster move with bringing Encarnacion-Strand back was designating Wynns for assignment. In the absence of the since-recalled Tyler Stephenson (oblique strain), Wynns served as the backup catcher to Jose Trevino, who was the projected backup ahead of spring training. Wynns more than held his own behind the plate and with a bat in his hand − so much so that the Reds opted to carry three catchers on their roster when Stephenson returned from injury. In 18 games this season, Wynns hit .400 with 16 hits and 11 RBI. But he was squeezed in terms of playing time with three catchers on the roster. In May, Wynns was used mostly as a late-inning catcher or pinch hitter, and had just seven at-bats during the month. Austin Wynns, whose playing time was limited after Tyler Stephenson returned from the injured list, was designated for assignment to clear a roster spot for Christian Encarnacion-Strand. Other clubs now have the opportunity to add Wynns, and the Reds will understand if that happens. In some ways, Francona seems to be rooting for the individual because of his professionalism, and because it seems obvious Wynns has more to offer than he can with Cincinnati at the moment. Advertisement "You know what, he deserves it and I would love to keep him in the organization and we told him that," Francona said, "I'm not even comfortable saying 'fingers crossed' because the guy deserves to be in the major leagues. He handled a really (crappy) thing really well. He is (a pro). He was and is and will be." This article originally appeared on Cincinnati Enquirer: Reds activate Christian Encarnacion-Strand from IL.
