James Haskell finally admits the true reason Chloe Madeley left 'dark' marriage
James Haskell finally admits the true reason Chloe Madeley left 'dark' marriage James Haskell has admitted his drinking was one of the reasons his marriage to Chloe Madeley broke down, after she said the months leading up to their split were "dark and painful" James Haskell and Chloe Madeley (Image: GETTY ) James Haskell has revealed the truth behind his divorce from Chloe Madeley, describing the end of their marriage as "awful" and "dark". The former England rugby player split from personal trainer Madeley, who is the daughter of television personalities Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan, in 2023, five years after the were married. Initially, they decided to keep the reasons for their separation private, but Madeley later described the time leading up to their parting as "incredibly scary". Haskell has now spoken out, admitting his drinking was the key factor in their split. "If I put more time into my marriage than I did Guinness, then I wouldn't be divorced now," he confessed to MailOnline while at Pub in the Park festival in west London. "It's one of those things in life where some things don't work out, but I have so much love for my daughter and Chloe. It's teamwork." Their daughter Bodhi was just one year old at the time of their breakup, which was announced in a joint statement. Article continues below "What we all forget is when you have children and a marriage finishes, it's all about the kids," he added. "Chloe and I are amazing co-parents. Our priority is always Bodhi." Madeley previously refused to delve into the reasons for her divorce, expressing that she wanted to protect her child, Bodhi, from the "dark and painful experiences" she went through. Speaking to The Sun, she remarked: "When you tell people that you are divorcing, everyone sees it as such a negative thing," before clarifying: "They say: 'This is going to be so hard for you.' And, yes, it is, but the hardest bit was when we were married." She candidly shared that "the last year of the marriage was awful" adding: "It was so dark, painful, and one of the worst periods of my life. It's a good thing we ended it." Haskell has also spoken about the recent death of his father, Jonathan, which was announced on Saturday after a long illness. He said: 'We have lost the cornerstone of our faamily. He was an amazing man. He always encouraged me to work. 'Every time I said to him, 'Shall I take a day off?' he would rather I worked.' The announcement of Haskell and Madeley's separation came via a joint statement from Madeley and Haskell in October 2023, following their appearance on the ITV show Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair. They declared: "Chloe and I mutually decided to separate at the end of September 2023," further stating, "We had not planned on releasing a statement at this time – certainly not while the television show was airing – but constant speculation about our marriage has, unfortunately, forced our hand." Chloe Madeley and James Haskell (Image: Neil Mockford ) She went on to affirm: "Beyond this statement, we will not be speaking about this matter publicly, and we would request privacy at this time." The couple emphasised their daughter's wellbeing, saying: "Our sole focus now is our beautiful daughter. We shall continue to co-parent with nothing but love." In February 2023, Madeley disclosed that she returned to her job as a personal trainer merely eight weeks post childbirth due to financial necessity. The fitness expert, who gave birth to her daughter in August 2022, stated that despite her then-husband's substantial earnings, they didn't have a joint account and her sense of "pride" propelled her back to work. Article continues below Haskell has also revealed he's now single, having dated advertising executive Helen Barclay and Big Brother star Sara McLean, 35, earlier this year. The sportsman said he's not currently on the search for his next partner, insisting his priority is "being the best dad in the best order". Haskell split from Sara in March - two days after going public with their relationship.

Richard Madeley says Judy Finnigan marriage issues were 'cured' by This Morning
The Good Morning Britain anchor has been married to Judy Finnigan since 1986, and they've starred together on several programmes, such as This Morning and Richard and Judy Good Morning Britain's Richard Madeley has opened up about how co-presenting live TV with his wife Judy Finnigan was like therapy for their marital tiffs. In the first episode of Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair on ITVX, Richard got candid with his daughter about his and Judy's 35-year marriage. He revealed that working closely with your spouse every day could be challenging. "Well, I mean, sometimes, you'd have a row. And you'd get to work not talking," he admitted. "But the show was a cure." He went on to explain: "I mean, it wasn't, like, false, you actually did genuinely have to come on and do the double act. You would find that within maybe 15, 20 minutes of going on air." Chloe chimed in with: "The ice thawed," prompting Richard to continue: "You'd just forgotten all about it because you were both focusing on the job. And so it was a very good way of processing a row," reports the Express. Richard and Judy have been an iconic duo since tying the knot in 1986, gracing our screens on shows like This Morning and Richard and Judy. Meanwhile, Richard's daughter Chloe has recently sent out a stark warning to fellow parents after her little one had a terrifying incident. The fitness guru was thrown into a state of alarm when her two-year-old suffered a nasty injury after getting her tongue caught in an ice cream fridge. A mum has taken to social media with a dire warning for fellow parents after her little one, Bodhi, had a narrow escape reminiscent of a scene from the 1994 comedy hit Dumb and Dumber. In a detailed account on her Instagram story, she recounted the chilling incident. "Bodhi pulled a Dumb and Dumber and got her tongue stuck in/on an ice-cream fridge today," she wrote. "She pulled away and ripped a very small amount of skin off, but oh my lord, the amount of blood was truly astonishing. Just writing this post as a hopeful reminder to all parents before ice-cream season hits." Chloe continued: "The mouth bleeds a LOT even when it's a tiny surface wound. You need to apply pressure for up to ten minutes before assessing if the bleeding is slowing down/whether you need to go to A&E. "The reason I'm writing this is not because I know better but because I completely forgot ALL the above and instead just went into a sort of panic mode. Sorry to anyone at David Lloyd who witnessed this. I'd love to pretend this kind of thing rarely happens but that would be a lie and my child is insane."

James Haskell is upset he's been depicted as 'absent' dad to Chloe Madeley's child
James Haskell has been left unhappy at his portrayal in ex-partner Chloe Madeley's ITV documentary, as he hinted at the reason behind their marriage breakdown. The couple first started dating in 2014, before announcing they were expecting their first child in 2022. In October 2023, they revealed they had separated. Madeley's life as a parent is documented on the show, Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair, but Haskell believes he's been unfairly presented as a villain. 'The thing about that was I was never meant to be in it,' he told Mark Wogan about the show on the Spooning podcast. 'I never got paid to do it. It was something that Chloe got asked to do and then I sort of got halfway through, go, Oh, I see there's the narratives being built here about being absentee or not being around or traveling or choosing music'. "And it just wasn't true. I am [the] most hands-on dad, I do everything. There's no pink jobs, blue jobs, I'm onto everything." Hinting at the reason behind the couple's split, the former professional rugby player said that having a child played a part. "As you grow in relationships, marriage is a really interesting thing, because a lot of people change, elements change, careers change, and you kind of, the confines of it mean that everything else grows but it doesn't grow,' he said. "So now the ability for us to co-parent is so important." As Wogan said that children can put a 'strain' on a relationship, Haskell agreed saying: 'Of course. I think that's why it's interesting. "We were very considered actually because we always looked at ourselves and were like, look, if you're lucky enough to have children, and you should never take that for granted, but there's a better time to have it. It's not a perfect time, it's not the right time, but there is a better time. 'When you're financially stable, sensible, a relationship you're working on. We want to make sure that our daughter has the best possible life." In response to a comment about him getting back together with Madeley, Haskell said: "I mean, who knows? Chloe, I learn stuff from her every day. "She's incredibly beautiful, incredibly talented, incredibly good mum. And our life dynamic works really well. She supports me.' He added that the couple's priority is their child, saying: 'Chloe is an amazing woman, extremely talented. She's made me a much better person being with her. "Now we're separated. We did that essentially because you want to make sure your daughter has the best possible life. I think when you have a child, you have a responsibility and everything your other wishes go out the window.'
