Why Hong Kong's star cyclist Ceci Lee wants a different title this year
Hong Kong cyclist Ceci Lee Sze-wing has promised to go flat-out on Saturday in pursuit of a first time-trial success at the city's National Road Championships. Lee has won the road race at the past two editions, but finished runner-up behind Chloe Leung Wing-yee in last year's race against the clock. An Olympian last year on road and track, Lee has outgrown the local scene, and acknowledged Hong Kong titles were only 'a little target'. However, honing her time-trialling is a priority as she targets major future success in the velodrome, and specifically the omnium. 'If I master it, it's going to give me more weapons in the omnium, so it's very important for me,' Lee said. 'Most of the time, I've not done well in time-trialling, and I need to improve to become an all-rounder.' Ceci Lee said improving her time-trialling could help her in the omnium. Hong Kong cycling star's golden gift, as coach tempers National Games expectations
Chloe Leung Wing-yee has been given a golden reminder of her potential to achieve home glory at the National Games in November. One day after a heavy fall in the Madison, Leung delivered a fabulous exhibition of daring and execution to outpace the otherwise dominant Japanese Yumi Kajihara and win Saturday's scratch race at the Japan Track Cup. The 26-year-old's first international track success was all the more remarkable for the fact she recently said that until last year she feared competing in the velodrome Dagorne, who likened the four-day competition in Japan to a 'small World Cup', handed Leung a meaningful gift following her victory. 'It's a wrench you use many times every day to change your bike's gear, but this one is a masterpiece, and gold plated,' Dagorne said. 'I want her to remember, every time she changes her wheel, that gold is within reach … but you have to truly want it.' The gold-plated wrench Chloe Leung was given by Herve Dagorne. Hong Kong cycling body could be told to reopen Paris Olympics selection probe
Hong Kong's cycling association could be ordered to reopen an inquiry regarding last year's Paris Olympics after a renewed accusation about its selection of riders, a source has told the Post. Advertisement A complaint last October to the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) – subsequently investigated, with the findings leaked to media – claimed that an official at the Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China (CAHK) tried to manipulate selection when Hong Kong was allocated an extra Games place in the women's road time trial. International rules required those taking part in the time trial to also compete in at least one other event. It was claimed that an official suggested star rider Ceci Lee Sze-wing relinquish her spot in the road race, allowing Chloe Leung Wing-yee to be selected for both road race and time trial. Leung could then drop out of the road race citing illness to allow Lee, the better road racer, to step in as backup and reclaim her intended spot while Leung rode in the time trial, giving Hong Kong the extra rider over the two races, according to the leaked report. Lee, who besides the road race was riding in the omnium in the velodrome, wished to compete only in those, not the time trial, according to a report by CAHK honorary secretary general Simon Leung Chi-wa to the executive committee on December 18. Still, an anonymous complaint was made to the SF&OC, which told the CAHK to set up an 'independent investigation committee'.
