Visually impaired children perform yoga in Mysuru
Mysuru: Special and visually impaired children performed at the 11th International Yoga day event at Mysuru Palace premises on Saturday morning and inspired people. Visual impairment was no hurdle for 8-year-old Chetan of class 1 nor 10-year-old Shankar who performed yoga at the event. As many as 29 others like them from Government Blind School for Boys of Mysuru from class 1 to 10, joined them. They were accompanied and helped by members of an NGO - Payal Sharma, Anil Kumar led by their CEO Anantha Lakshmi. The NGO has been training them with yoga and other skills like swimming, spoken English, computer courses, various sports. Also, three teachers Shivakumar, Ravi and Uday accompanied the children. Down syndrome too didn't deter the spirit of 9-year-old Shaheeb from Pukkoottu, Mallapura district of Kerala. He was one among 15 other special children from four to 10 years of age from different parts of the country who are in Mysuru for a two year pre-school training at All India Institute of Speech and Hearing. .They were accompanied by AIISH Director M Puspavathi, yoga instructor, Hemali Rudrappa and special educator C C Leena. Wearing saree did not come in way for neither 55-year-old Rajamma nor her daughter Jaya Ravi Kumar and several women among the 70 people from Kempisiddanahundi of Mysuru who performed yoga by sporting a white t-shirt at the event. They are learning yoga at Ayush Arogya Mandira from Dr K Sujatha at the village. Rajamma shared, "I have been learning yoga for four years. I wake up at 5 pm and practice yoga with fellow villagers from 6 am to 7 am and later get along with routine chores and don't get tired till evening. Earlier I suffered from gastritis, asthma and knee joint pain, now I am not taking medicine for any of it and I am healthy due to yoga," she said.

Subsidised agricultural machinery distributed to farmers in Sathya Sai dist
Puttaparthi: District Collector TS Chetan informed that under 2024–25 scheme, subsidised agricultural machinery worth Rs 1,72,75,038 was distributed to 1,021 farmers across the district. Speaking at the event held on Wednesday at PGRS Meeting Hall in the Collectorate, Chetan stated that equipment such as rotavators, brush cutters, sprayers, threshers, and tillers were distributed through Rythu Samakhya Kendras (RSKs). He urged farmers to make the best use of these government-provided resources. A review meeting was also conducted with representatives of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), where the Collector inquired about the ongoing programmes and challenges faced by FPOs. He advised them on strategies to ensure better prices for farmers and explained detailed action plans for future. FPO representatives also submitted their proposals to strengthen the FPO framework in the district. As part of the event, a symbolic mega cheque for Rs 1.72 crore was handed over to farmers. District Agriculture Officer YV Subbarao, Horticulture Officer Chandrasekhar, DRDA PD Narasayya, agricultural development officers, agriculture department officials, FPO representatives, farmers, and leaders of farmers' unions were present.

Eway daredevils: 4 students land in police net week after stunts in cars in Gurgaon
Gurgaon: Four students, whose video of reckless driving on Dwarka Expressway went viral over a week ago, were arrested on Sunday. Police spokesperson Sandeep Kumar (ASI) said the accused were traced using technical and human intelligence. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The accused — Pushpendra (23), a final year BPharma student from Laxmi Garden in Sector 11; Rohit (22), a final year BPharma student from Raisina village, Bhondsi; Tarun (25), a final year BA student from Harsaru village; and Chetan (19), a Class XII passout and resident of Sector 84 — were arrested from Sector 81. The police also seized two vehicles — a Mercedes and a Scorpio — which were used for the dangerous stunt near Bajghera police station, putting many lives at risk. The video had surfaced around 10 days back. The video showed the accused performing stunts in broad daylight. The accused were seen sitting on the car roofs. The Scorpio driver was seen driving with an open door of the vehicle with loud music playing in the background. The accused have sought a public apology while in police custody. In a video released by the city police, all the accused were seen admitting their mistake and appealing to the public not to perform such stunts. Police said Tarun was sitting on the moving Scorpio in the video, while Chetan was standing through the sunroof and also shot the stunt videos.

The best of India in England, Part 2: Vengsarkar dazzles, Kapil Dev runs through Gower's men as India conquer Lord's
Starting with their maiden Test in June 1932, India had played 10 matches at Lord's when Kapil Dev led his side to England in the summer of 1986 for a three-Test series. At what's often referred to as the Headquarters of Cricket, India had found little joy – eight losses and two draws. India's form going into that series too was less than encouraging. Their last Test win had come in November 1984, also against England, at Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, after which they had endured ten winless outings. Under David Gower, who had masterminded a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph in India in 1984-85, England had a formidable batting unit that included Graham Gooch, Mike Gatting and Allan Lamb, so it came as a bit of a surprise when Kapil chose to bowl first. Openers Gooch and Tim Robinson got the hosts off to a cracking start, putting on 66 as the wisdom of fielding first was questioned when, through Chetan Sharma, India staged a spectacular fightback. Just two months previously, Chetan had made the news for all the wrong reasons, being at the receiving end of a last-ball six by Javed Miandad that took Pakistan to a famous victory in Sharjah. Presented with the opportunity to sing the redemption song, the 20-year-old grabbed it with both hands, winkling out Gower, Gatting and Lamb, the heart of the England batting, within six runs after Maninder Singh's left-arm spin had accounted for Robinson. England were in strife at 98 for four when a familiar tormentor linked up with the man touted as the next Ian Botham. Gooch hadn't yet become India's nemesis – that would come when he would sweep them out of the World Cup semifinal in 1987 and follow it up with a triple-hundred at Lord's in 1990 – but alongside Derek Pringle, the Nairobi-born all-rounder, he repaired the damage with a stand of 147 for the fifth wicket. Pringle contributed a patient 63 and Gooch completed a brilliant century but for the second time in the innings, India rallied splendidly. Roger Binny, the 1983 World Cup hero, stepped in to clean up the lower order once Chetan clean bowled Gooch, England losing their last six wickets for 49 runs to be bowled out for 294 with Chetan returning a second five-wicket haul in Tests. India's top-five responded in kind with patience as the watchword. Sunil Gavaskar batted nearly three hours in stitching together 34, while No. 3 Mohinder Amarnath's 69 spanned four hours. But the man who hogged the limelight was the tall, majestic Dilip Vengsarkar, the elegant No. 4. On his two previous visits to Lord's in 1979 and 1982, he had weighed in with 103 and 157 respectively. This time, he waltzed to a boundary-laden 126, making him the first overseas batter to strike three Lord's hundreds, and that too on the bounce. A middle-order wobble meant India didn't build handsomely from 232 for three; 341 all out game them a lead of 47 when it could have been so much more. England's second innings flourished all too briefly through Gatting and Lamb, whose 73-run fourth-wicket partnership nullified Kapil's three-wicket burst with the new ball. But when Ravi Shastri snapped the threatening stand by having Lamb caught behind, India regathered focus with Maninder spinning a wicked web. In a stunning exhibition of left-arm spin bowling, he snaffled three for nine from 20.4 top-class overs, ensuring that England's riposte ended at 180. With England's second innings having ended at the stroke of stumps on day four, India had a whole day to knock off the 134 runs needed for a magnificent first triumph at Lord's. The task appeared straightforward but small targets are often tricky, and even though India had great batting depth, the top order endured a nervous night. The apprehensions of their fans, more than the team's, grew when K Srikkanth fell for a ten-ball duck to Graham Dilley but with handy contributions from Gavaskar and Vengsarkar, India made reasonably promising progress. Mohammad Azharuddin's dismissal for ten, run out following a mix-up with Shastri, meant only the all-rounders were left in the hut with 24 needed and five wickets remaining. Enter Kapil to leave his, and India's, authoritative imprint on the Lord's turf. In just ten deliveries, India's mercurial leader breezed to an unbeaten 23 with four fours and a six, turning a potentially nervy hour to an 18-minute celebratory romp. At the same venue where, three years previously, he had held aloft the 60-over World Cup trophy, Kapil fired another shot announcing India's cricketing upswing, taming Lord's and helping his side open up a 1-0 lead. India would go on to win the series 2-0, their first series triumph in Old Blighty for 15 years. Brief scores: England: 294 all out in 128.2 overs (Graham Gooch 114, Tim Robinson 35, Derek Pringle 63; Roger Binny 3-55, Chetan Sharma 5-64) and 180 all out in 96.4 overs (Mike Gatting 40, Allan Lamb 39, Paul Downton 29; Kapil Dev 4-52, Maninder Singh 3-9) lost to India: 341 all out in 137 overs (Sunil Gavaskar 34, Mohinder Amarnath 69, Dilip Vengsarkar 126, Mohammad Azharuddin 33, Kiran More 25; Graham Dilley 4-146, Pringle 3-58) and 136/5 in 42 overs (Vengsarkar 33; Dilley 2-28) by five wickets. 6 held for provocative SM posts
Mangaluru: Mangaluru City police arrested six persons on the charges of sharing inflammatory and provocative content on social media with the intent to disturb communal harmony. Among those arrested is Mohammad Aslam,23, from Udupi, who allegedly operated the Instagram page team_jokerzzz._ from Saudi Arabia. A look out circular (LOC) was issued against him, and he was arrested. Chetan,20, from Surathkal, and Nithin Adapa,23, from Haleyangadi, are accused of creating an Instagram page titled team_karna_surathkal using a SIM card registered under a Muslim name. Hate content was shared under the name 'Chennappa @ Muttu Surathkal' through this page. Riyaz Ibrahim,30, from Farangipete, is another accused who was operating from Saudi Arabia. He is believed to have posted provocative content via the Instagram handle Beary_royal_nawab. An LOC was issued against him as well, and he was arrested. Jamal Zakeer,21, from Kasba Bengre, Kulur, allegedly posted inflammatory messages on the Instagram page Troll_bengare_ro_makka, while Guru Prasad, from Haleyangadi, was found spreading provocative content through his Facebook account. The cases are being investigated by the CEN crime police station. City police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy CH said that over the past two months, certain individuals consistently posted content that targeted communities and incited violence.
