Stellantis Evaluates Maserati's Future, Including Potential Sale -- Reuters

Stellantis (STLA, Financials) is weighing a possible sale of its luxury brand Maserati as part of a broader strategic review, according to a Reuters report citing two unnamed sources familiar with the matter. Warning! GuruFocus has detected 11 Warning Signs with STLA. The discussions reportedly began before newly appointed CEO Antonio Filosa officially takes the helm. Maserati's future is under review as Stellantis navigates a shrinking U.S. market, Chinese competition, and steep tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump on foreign-made cars and parts. Despite the internal review, a Stellantis spokesperson told Reuters that Maserati is not for sale. McKinsey declined to comment. Maserati's sales fell by over 50% last year to 11,300 units, with no new models currently scheduled for launch. A new business plan is expected once Filosa begins his tenure. Stellantis' board remains split on the brand's futuresome directors reportedly view Maserati as a reputational asset, while others believe it lacks viability for a sustainable relaunch. Analysts say streamlining Stellantis' 14-brand portfolio could improve profit margins. The company's shares have lost roughly two-thirds of their value since March 2024. Chinese automakers such as Chery could emerge as potential buyers, echoing earlier moves like Geely's acquisition of Volvo or SAIC's purchase of MG. This article first appeared on GuruFocus. Safety Under Pressure: Chery Battery Faces Indonesian Ocean for 53+Hours

JAKARTA, Indonesia, June 20, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- On June 17, Chery commenced the second stage of its Global Safety Challenge in Jakarta, Indonesia, focusing on the "extreme humidity" scenario within its six-dimensional safety evaluation system (heat, cold, dryness, humidity, high-speed, and rough terrain). This rigorous test validated the moisture and corrosion resistance of the "Guardian Battery" in Chery Super Hybrid (CSH). Mr. Heri Prabowo, Head of the Sub-Directorate of Motor Vehicle Type Testing, Ministry of Transportation, and Mr. Christian Andersen, Notary, along with representatives from 80 leading media outlets and industry KOLs, attended the event to witness the battery's performance after 53 hours and 51 minutes of continuous saltwater soaking—demonstrating zero leakage, zero short circuit, and no signs of thermal runaway. The battery maintained structural integrity and passed all technical validations for electrical insulation. Once installed in the vehicle, it started successfully on the first attempt and delivered stable power throughout the road test, completing the rigorous challenge with zero anomalies. CSH's "Guardian Battery" features IP68-rated waterproof and dustproof certification, an ultra-fast 2ms power cut-off response, an ultra-wide operating temperature range from -35°C to 60°C, and a 24/7 real-time health monitoring system—delivering comprehensive battery safety backed by advanced intelligent technologies. On the passive protection front, TIGGO8 CSH is equipped with a high-strength steel underbody shield with a tensile strength of 780 MPa, significantly enhancing the vehicle's overall safety performance. At the event, TIGGO8 CSH's spacious "5+2" seating layout and V2L ecosystem drew significant attention from guests. With the third-row seats folding flat at the touch of a button, the class-leading 1,930L trunk, paired with 36 storage compartments and a powerful 3.3 kW V2L system, TIGGO8 CSH provides a comfortable and enjoyable travel experience for the whole family on every journey. Committed to safety excellence, Chery continuously elevates technological innovation with user-centric engineering, benchmarking against industry leaders like Volvo through rigorous global safety challenges. As the second stage in Chery's global safety challenge, the Indonesian battery safety test in extreme humidity further validated the brand's safety technology. Looking ahead, Chery will conduct a rigorous underbody scraping test in the Mexican market to further evaluate the safety performance of CSH—highlighting Chery's commitment to delivering safer and more reliable mobility solutions to global customers.

Chery launches second stop of global safety campaign in Indonesia

KUALA LUMPUR: Chery has launched the second stop of its global Chery Safety Challenge campaign in Indonesia, focusing on battery safety in extreme humidity. The Chinese carmaker said the challenge marks a significant milestone in its commitment to rigorous real-world testing, following a series of extreme safety tests conducted in China. This includes spiral rollovers, dual-vehicle collisions and a seven-vehicle vertical stack challenge. "The Tiggo 8 Pro CSH, Chery's flagship plug-in hybrid SUV, will take on this challenge, underlining the battery system's reliability in Indonesia's tropical, rain-soaked environment. "The same vehicle model (Tiggo 8 Pro CSH) had endured a 48-hour seven-car stack stress test in Wuhu, China reflecting Chery's rigorous safety benchmarks," it added. Chery said the spotlight now turns to Indonesia's high-humidity tropical climate, where Chery will demonstrate the resilience and safety of its battery system in a highly challenging environmental condition. The safety test in Indonesia is part of Chery's global 'In Somewhere, For Somewhere' strategy, reflecting a deep commitment to market-specific product adaptation. By addressing local concerns, such as flooding and humidity, Chery said it positions itself as a reliable partner in delivering safe, intelligent mobility solutions.
