Charlotte woman advocates for change after losing home in flash flood
A local woman lost most of her personal belongings after a flash flood swept through her home on June 12. Jane Morin, pantry coordinator for the nonprofit Hearts United for Good, said the water came from the creek by her house. Morin told Channel 9's Eli Brand the water got high enough to go over the bridge and into her home. The water inside was almost knee-deep. 'Anything that was down here in any of these cabinets or sitting on the floor is not salvageable,' she said. Morin was in the process of moving so most of her things were packed in boxes on the floor. She wasn't home when the flood started, and by the time she found out about it, she had to wait for flood waters to recede before she could check on the damage. Morin wasn't the only one affected by the heavy rains. One of her neighbors had to be rescued from the waters by the Charlotte Fire Department, she said. Both Morin and her neighbor were given orders to vacate within 30 days because of the damage. Luckily, Morin says she has a new home to move into, but that isn't the case for everyone. 'It rained four inches in 90 minutes,' she said. 'We've seen in western North Carolina how much damage can be done quickly because of water.' Morin wants people to understand that things like this can cause people to experience homelessness. She says there is a chance she could have been temporarily unhoused if she didn't already have a home lined up. It's something she sees regularly with her work at HUG, a nonprofit that helps feed the hungry and people experiencing homelessness in the city. 'I would love for there to be a different narrative around people being unhoused,' she said. Morin says people from her organization are doing what they can to help, and she is encouraging others to offer whatever help they can to those in need as well. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help with Morin's recovery efforts. Morin added that there were donations in her home for her niece who recently became unhoused. Her niece is pregnant, she said. Many of those donations were lost. To donate directly to HUG, visit VIDEO: Flash flooding hits Caldwell County after strong storms

Central Florida braces for hot and steamy Friday
Showers and storms are expected to be widespread across Central Florida Friday afternoon and evening, with heavy rain likely along I-4 and to the west. Afternoon temperatures will climb to the upper 80s and low 90s, with heat index values reaching the mid and upper 90s. This weather pattern is part of a larger trend of increasing heat across the country, which is expected to intensify over the weekend and into next week. Residents in Central Florida should prepare for a return to the mid-90s in terms of high temperatures next week. The combination of high temperatures and humidity will result in uncomfortable conditions. Those living along I-4 and to the west should be especially vigilant, as these regions are forecasted to receive the most significant rainfall. Today host Karl Stefanovic loses it as NRL player accidentally shows penis on live TV
Don't miss out on the headlines from Entertainment. Followed categories will be added to My News. Nothing says 'It's Friday' quite like the Today Show throwing broadcast regulations to the wind and showing an unblurred penis on live TV. If you were tuning into the Channel 9 breakfast show around 6am this morning, Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Abo helmed a truly loose segment during Danika Mason's cross from Bondi Beach. The Sydney-based sports reporter was joined by retired Rugby League player Aaron Woods, who earlier made a bet with Stefanovic vowing to do a nudie run if NSW lost State of Origin game two. Alas, after the Blues lost to Queensland in Perth Wednesday night, Woods came good on his promise, stripping to his birthday suit and bolting toward the water as he dived into the surf, while Stefanovic, Abo and Mason broke into fits of laughter. Aaron Woods does a nudie run on TODAY. Karl and Sarah broke into fits of laughter from the studio. And while a bit of butt action was all in the script, Woods then did the unthinkable, turning around to face the camera leaving the poor unfortunate editors no time to blur his modesty. Cue terrified screams from Abo and newsreader Jayne Azzopardi. 'No! Don't show it!,' Abo howled, as Woods flashed a beaming smile. This wasn't the plan. Editors had no time to blur the scenes. The panellists dropped some cheeky innuendo over the chaotic scenes, with Mason musing the situation was 'the smallest sporting event I've seen.' 'I hope I get a Logie for this,' Mason added. Spare a thought for Danika Mason. Woods' nudie run comes after NSW premier Chris Minns earlier warned the athlete it was illegal to be naked in public. During a segment on Triple M Breakfast with Beau, Cat and Woodsy, Woods asked Minns if he'd be open to joining him on his naked quest. 'No. It's highly illegal,' Minns said. 'Why is this news to you guys? It's been illegal forever.' Originally published as Today host Karl Stefanovic loses it as NRL player accidentally shows penis on live TV

Karl Stefanovic left in stitches as Aaron Woods honours nude swim bet at Bondi Beach on live TV
Karl Stefanovic isn't lost for words often - but the Channel 9 identity was speechless on Friday morning after former footy star Aaron Woods honoured a nude swim bet at Bondi Beach on live TV. Woods entered the ocean in his birthday suit - a brave feat in the middle of winter - and then accidently revealed his manhood to viewers in shocking scenes. Stefanovic, co-host Sarah Abo and Danika Mason - who was at Bondi Beach with Woods - couldn't believe what unfolded. 'No! Don't show it!,' Abo pleaded, as Woods lapped up his moment. Mason then became the star of the show with a one-liner for the ages, labelling it 'the smallest sporting event I've seen.' 'I hope I get a Logie for this,' she added. Woods later appeared on Today again, thankfully fully clothed. 'I'm feeling good, it was good fun,' the former NSW Blues prop said. Woods also honoured the bet - despite NSW Premier Chris Minns warning the act was illegal. Minns himself is involved in a series-long bet with his Queensland counterpart David Crisafulli, in which the loser will appear in an advertising campaign for the other state. The Origin decider is at Accor Stadium in Sydney on July 9.

State of Origin Premier Chris Minns swipes Aaron Woods' bet plan after NSW Blues loss to Queensland Maroons
Don't miss out on the headlines from NRL. Followed categories will be added to My News. After an intense, controversy-filled week, Aaron Woods might have been saved from a run-in with police by NSW Premier Chris Minns. Former NSW Blues prop Woods and Queensland coach Billy Slater dominated the headlines in the build-up to Wednesday night's Origin Game 2. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer. As everyone now knows, Woods kicked it all off when he tried to drum up a muted Origin period by labelling Slater a 'grub'. The former fullback took his time before replying in kind on Game 2 eve, questioning Woods' place in the media and referencing mental health and former Maroons coach Paul Green in an in-depth swipe. He then backtracked and apologised for mentioning Green's name on the morning of the game, which his Maroons would win 26-24. Aaron Woods and NSW Premier Chris Minns. Photos: News Corp Speaking on his Triple M radio show on Wednesday, Woods said he stood by his initial comments and felt Slater 'went over the boundary' with some of his remarks. It has since come to light that Woods made a bet with Channel 9 identity Karl Stefanovic over the result of Game 2. The punishment for the loser? A nude run into the surf at Bondi Beach. Stefanovic had taken issue with Woods' comments on Slater and called his show to throw down the challenge, which the former Wests Tigers and Sharks forward accepted. 'Here's the bet, Woodsy,' Stefanovic said. 'The loser of the Origin game in Perth runs naked into the Bondi surf.' Woods replied: 'We're on, Karlos.' This is where Premier Minns steps in after he was a guest on the Triple M Breakfast show, Beau, Cat and Woodsy, on Thursday. After Woods declared his intention to accept his punishment for the NSW defeat, he then said to the premier: 'Do you want to come do it with me?' Minns swiftly replied: 'No, it's highly illegal.' Why is this news to you guys? It's been illegal forever.' Beau Ryan added: 'Woodsy is genuinely shocked. He said 'why is this illegal?' I said you can't be nude in public. 'You could get arrested.' Minns then said: 'We do have nude beaches in Sydney,' perhaps opening the door for a slight change to the bet. Karl Stefanovic was very keen for Woods to go through with the punishment. Picture: Portia Large. Minns himself has a bet going with Queensland premier David Crisafulli over the Origin series. In the past the losing state has had to fly the other state flag over Sydney Harbour or Storey Bridge. But this year it has gone a step further. 'The loser of the series has to do a tourism ad for the winner's state,' Minns said. 'It doesn't have to be good. I can rip Queensland, like 'the best thing about Queensland is it's next to NSW'.'
