Batik Air renews IOSA certification; reaffirms dedication to safety, operational excellence
KUALA LUMPUR — Batik Air has successfully renewed its International Air Transport Association (IATA) Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) certification, which is valid until June 3, 2027. In a statement today, the airline said the IOSA certification sets global benchmarks for aviation safety and operational efficiency by assessing an airline's systems and procedures against a comprehensive set of harmonised standards and recommended practices. The renewed certification was awarded following a comprehensive audit conducted under IATA's enhanced Risk-Based Audit (RBA) framework. 'The airline's IOSA renewal reflects its deep-rooted values and its long-term vision to be a trusted full-service carrier of choice,' it said. Batik Air chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the certification offers not only assurance, but also peace of mind for the airline's passengers. 'Whether flying domestically or across borders, they can trust that every Batik Air flight is supported by robust safety protocols, seamless coordination, and operational precision,' he added. The airline said the renewal of the certification underscores the team's continued efforts in upholding and exceeding global aviation safety standards. Meanwhile, Batik Air said it will continue to expand its regional and international footprint while maintaining an unrelenting focus on safe, reliable, and comfortable air travel. 'Passengers flying with Batik Air can look forward to a travel experience built on industry best practices, a modern fleet, and an unwavering culture of safety,' it said. — BERNAMA

Batik Air to launch Subang–Bangkok Don Mueang route earlier than scheduled
KUALA LUMPUR: Batik Air Malaysia Sdn Bhd is accelerating its international expansion from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (SZB), also known as Subang Airport, by bringing forward the launch of its daily flights to Bangkok Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) to July 28, ahead of its initially planned start date of September 12. Batik Air Malaysia's chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the earlier commencement was made possible by the timely availability of aircraft, enabling the airline to capitalise on the increasing air travel demand, particularly in the summer and strengthening its regional connectivity strategy. "With increasing demand for flights out of SZB, this milestone represents a significant step in expanding our international operations from Subang." "We are pleased to have accelerated this timeline and to position Subang as a key hub city airport within our network," Chandran told Business Times when contacted last week. The SZB-DMK daily route launch marks Batik Air Malaysia's first international route out of Subang Airport. The upcoming new daily service, which will be operated under flight OD532 from SZB to DMK and OD533 for the return leg, will be served by Batik Air Malaysia's Boeing B737-800 aircraft, marking another key route in the airline's growing short-haul international network. Chandran said the opportunity was strategically leveraged to support Batik Air Malaysia's network growth. Batik Air Malaysia began operating the B737-800s out of Subang Airport in August 2024, following Malaysia's decision to reopen the airport to commercial narrow-body jet operations for the first time in 22 years. The airline also operates out of Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1 (KLIA T1). Batik Air Malaysia has been steadily expanding its presence in Thailand, currently operating 21 weekly flights between KLIA T1 and DMK, in addition to seven weekly flights between Subang Airport and DMK. The carrier has also launched services from Johor Bahru to DMK beginning with four weekly flights, and will increase to daily frequencies from August 2025. Also on July 28, Batik Air Malaysia will commence daily flights to Kuching International Airport from Subang Airport, further strengthening domestic connectivity from Subang.

Batik Air launches first direct flights between KL and Timor-Leste
KUALA LUMPUR: Batik Air has launched a new direct air link between Kuala Lumpur and Dili, becoming the first Malaysian airline to operate scheduled commercial flights to Timor-Leste. The airline said its entry into the emerging Timor-Leste market is a timely and forward-looking move that supports the growth of Malaysia's tourism sector by attracting new travellers from one of Asean's youngest nations. Operated by a Boeing 737 aircraft, the direct flight between Dili and Kuala Lumpur takes approximately four hours and 15 minutes. The twice-weekly service reflects Batik Air's commitment to enhancing regional connectivity through strategic market expansion. With Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA T1) serving as a central hub, passengers from Dili now enjoy convenient onward connections to over 60 destinations across 20 countries, spanning Asia, the Middle East and Australia. Chief executive officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the airline see enormous potential in this new route, not just in terms of passenger movement, but in the wider opportunity to invite Timorese travellers to discover Malaysia's diverse tourism offerings. "As Timor-Leste expands its global outlook, we are honoured to offer a gateway to Malaysia and beyond, through KLIA's extensive connectivity and Batik Air's growing international network. "Batik Air is proud to play a role in making Malaysia more accessible and attractive to new markets, while contributing to the region's tourism revival and long-term development," he said in a statement. Tourism Malaysia director general Datuk Manoharan Periasamy said the launch of this direct route between Kuala Lumpur and Dili is a timely and strategic effort in strengthening bilateral tourism cooperation. "With Malaysia having welcomed 38 million international visitor arrivals in 2024, we are optimistic that this new connectivity will further enhance visitor numbers and contribute positively to the success of our Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign. "Malaysia's diverse tourism offerings, ranging from world-renowned gastronomy and rich cultural heritage to premium shopping experiences, make it an ideal destination for Timorese travellers seeking quality leisure and business experiences," he said.
