Beckley Fire Prevention Bureau to begin actively enforcing Certificate of Occupancy Code
BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) – The Beckley Fire Prevention Bureau is ramping up measures to ensure public of the bureau have said the local departments will begin actively enforcing Certificate of Occupancy Code regulations as adopted by the City of Beckley. In addition to a standard fire safety inspection, structures within the city will require inspection by the Beckley Code Enforcement Division. Fire Prevention Bureau Captain, Chris Graham said that these regulations will be enforced to ensure the safety of city residents who reside in or visit buildings accessible by members of the public.'Just as a reference point, it lets everyone know that building has been inspected, meets the minimum standards of safety, and it's safe to go into,' said Graham. 'Hopefully if there is a fire everybody can get out. We just really try to make sure that all buildings are welcoming, but also safe.'
Inspections by the Code Enforcement Division will involve assessments of the plumbing, electrical work, and structural components of buildings, along with any other factors which could be considered a safety risk by the department.
