Woman arrested after allegedly trying to abduct baby in Blackpool
A woman has been arrested after allegedly trying to abduct a baby in Blackpool. Police said it was reported that a woman had approached a baby in a pram on Central Drive, near to the Coral Island amusement arcade in the seaside town, at around 11.55am on Saturday. Members of the public and the baby's parent intervened, Police said, adding the baby was unharmed. A 51-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and police assault. Chief Inspector John Jennings-Wharton said: "We know that something like this can be very concerning for the community to hear about. "We are in the early stages of our investigation and are working to establish the full circumstances." He added: "If you do have information or footage that could assist those enquiries, we ask you report them to us through the appropriate channels."

Woman is arrested over 'attempted abduction' after baby in pram 'snatched in front of parent' at seaside hotspot
A woman has been arrested after allegedly trying to abduct a baby in a pram at a UK seaside promenade. The baby was being pushed along in their pram by a parent when a stranger appeared at around 11.30am in Central Drive, near the Coral Island Amusement Centre, yesterday morning. Passersby noticed what was happening and intervened to help the parent, police confirmed. A woman has been arrested on suspicion of child abduction and police assault. A police spokesman said: 'Members of the public, and the baby's parent intervened, and thankfully the baby was unharmed.' Chief Inspector John Jennings-Wharton, of Blackpool Police, said: 'We know that something like this can be very concerning for the community to hear about. 'We are in the early stages of our investigation and are working to establish the full circumstances. 'We are aware of some social media posts that have been shared online. 'We'd encourage you not to speculate, and to understand that our enquiries are very much ongoing. 'If you do have information or footage that could assist those enquiries, we ask you report them to us through the appropriate channels.'

It follows an incident which took place a few hundred metres from Blackpool promenade where a baby was being pushed in their pram when a stranger approached the baby and their parent. People nearby noticed what was happening and stepped in to help the baby's parent. The incident took place at about 11:30 BST on Central Drive, near to Coral Island amusement centre. A police spokesman said: "Members of the public, and the baby's parent intervened, and thankfully the baby was unharmed."
