Boston Celtics jersey history No. 21 - Frank Kudelka (1951) The Boston Celtics have had players suiting up in a total of 68 different jersey numbers (and have three others not part of any numerical series) since their founding at the dawn of the Basketball Association of America (BAA -- the league that would become today's NBA), worn by well over 500 players in the course of Celtics history. To commemorate the players who wore those numbers, Celtics Wire is covering the entire history of jersey numbers and the players who sported them since the founding of the team. With 25 of those jerseys now retired to honor some of the greatest Celtics to wear those jerseys, there is a lot of history to cover. And for today's article, we will continue with the third of nine people to wear the No. 21, Boston wing alum Frank Kudelka. After ending his college career at St. Mary's, Kudelka would join the (defunct) Chicago Stags in 1949. The San Francisco, California native was picked up by the (also defunct) Washington Capitols after the Stags went under, and Boston did the same for Kudelka later that season when the Caps folded. His stay with the team would span just 27 games before he was traded to the (you guessed it, defunct) Baltimore Bullets in 1951. During his time suiting up for the Celtics, Kudelka wore only jersey No. 21 and put up 4.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. All stats and data courtesy of Basketball Reference.

After seeing how poorly he was able to play in yet another postseason, there is a certain contingent of Celtics fans who are more than ready to ship out the Latvian center at the first available opportunity. But Porzingis has real value when he is able to take the court, and his recent viral malady was as rare of an issue as his ankle injury from the 2024 NBA Playoffs. Add in the fact that he is currently on a $30.7 million expiring deal that could solve Boston's cap crunch concerns by literally doing nothing, and KP has value to the Celtics on multiple levels -- including the fact that Boston has a dearth of high level big men under contract, and that they could also save money AND keep Porzingis by renegotiating an extension with him. Can the Suns put together an offer that would beat those pluses for the Celtics? After ending his college career at Holy Cross, Foley was picked up with the 18th overall selection of the 1962 NBA draft by the Celtics. The Worcester, Massachusetts native played just five games for Boston before he was dealt to the New York Knicks in 1963.
