Carrie Bickmore hails footy star Scott Selwood's incredible sacrifice just after losing a second brother in 'the most horrific personal circumstances'

Aussie radio presenter Carrie Bickmore has paid tribute to Scott Selwood after the former footy star completed a solo marathon to raise money for charity just weeks after the death of his brother, Adam. Selwood, now assistant coach of Collingwood, had been planning to run in South Africa 's Big Five Marathon with Bickmore but was forced to pull out due to the tragic death of Adam in May. Adam's death at the age of 41 came just three months after his identical twin and fellow former AFL player Troy Selwood died. Scott's commitment to the cause remained, with him completing 42.2km around Albert Park on Saturday - raising money for Bickmore's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer in the process. Former player Isaac Smith joined Bickmore in South Africa in Selwood's place, running a marathon with just three week's notice. 'Collapsed against the wall is Scott Selwood, who was due to participate in The Big 5 with us but had to pull out at the last minute due to the most horrific personal circumstances,' Bickmore posted to Instagram. Selwood (above) had been planning to run in South Africa 's Big Five Marathon with Bickmore but was forced to pull out due to the tragic death of Adam in May. Former player Isaac Smith (pictured flat on his back above) joined Bickmore in South Africa in Selwood's place 'He still chose to do the marathon in Australia at the same time as we did ours in South Africa. He ran around Albert Park lake and did the 42K alone. What a superhuman effort. 'The pic of the man laying down is Isaac Smith, a former footy player who stepped in with 3 weeks to go and only managed 3 training runs before running The Big 5 marathon. 'He nearly got medic'd off the course because he was so unwell, but he wouldn't let them stop him running. He completed the marathon, the colour of grey, and stumbling everywhere but he did it. He did it for Scott. 'Sending love to both of you. You are both beautiful humans.' Alongside the message, Bickmore posted an image of both Selwood and Smith after running their respective marathons. Smith, who has a newborn at home, said stepping up to run the race was a no-brainer for him. 'There wasn't really a question because they've done so many amazing things for so many people,' he said. 'They're a beautiful family and I'll do anything to help them out.' Adam (pictured delivering a eulogy for brother Troy) was planning on a charity run in Perth at the time of his death Before his death, Adam Selwood was meant to run a half-marathon to honour his brother Troy. He hoped to raise $10,000 for WA charity zero2hero, which supports mental health leadership and suicide prevention. A group of Adam's friends – including West Coast teammates – finished what he started by running the race.

Carrie Bickmore pays tribute to Isaac Smith and Scott Selwood after gruelling marathon

Radio host Carrie Bickmore has paid tribute to former AFL players Isaac Smith and Scott Selwood after both ran a full marathon to raise funds for brain cancer. Smith, the four-time premiership winner with Hawthorn and Geelong, joined Bickmore in for the Big 5 marathon in South Africa after just three weeks of preparation. Selwood was scheduled to join Bickmore's squad in South Africa, but pulled out after the tragic death of his brother Adam Selwood last month. Despite this, the ex-Geelong midfielder ran the 42 kilometres by himself around the Albert Park lake in Melbourne. "The definition of mate ship right here," Bickmore wrote in a post praising the duo on Instagram. "Collapsed against the wall is Scott Selwood, who was due to participate in The Big 5 with us but had to pull out at the last minute due to the most horrific personal circumstances. He still chose to do the marathon in Australia at the same time as we did ours in South Africa. He ran around Albert Park lake and did the 42K alone. What a superhuman effort. "The pic of the man laying down is Isaac Smith, a former footy player who stepped in with 3 weeks to go and only managed 3 training runs before running The Big 5 marathon. He did it for Scott. "Sending love to both of you. You are both beautiful humans." Bickmore's message accompanied an image which showed both Smith and Selwood immediately after running their respective marathons. The Big 5 marathon is considered one of the toughest courses in the world. Runners weave their way through an African wildlife park with animals such as lions, elephants and rhinos. Adam Selwood died at 41 on May 17 and was farewelled by his loved ones at a private funeral in Perth last month, just months after his twin brother Troy also died and was given a public service at Geelong's Kardinia Park in February. The four Selwood brothers combined for 786 games during their respective careers, an AFL record for the most combined games by siblings.

The Project brutally snubbed from the 2025 Logie Awards after getting axed by Channel Ten

The Project has been snubbed in the 2025 TV WEEK Logie Awards nominations after the show was axed by Channel Ten last week. The beloved current affairs show did not score one nomination in any of the categories. The program has nabbed seven Logies over the years, including two Gold Logies won by Carrie Bickmore in 2015 and Waleed Aly in 2016. Waleed, who has won three Logies in the past, was surprisingly absent from this year's nominations. Similarly, Sarah Harris, 43, Georgie Tunny, 34, and Sam Taunton, 34, weren't recognised. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The Project star reveals surprising secret from show's early days - as shock twist about axing is revealed

Charlie Pickering has opened up about his early days as host of The Project a mere week after the show was cancelled by Channel 10 after 16 years. The 47-year-old funnyman has revealed that he and his then co-anchor Carrie Bickmore were not supposed to host the long running show at all. Pickering's confession comes after widespread reports that current Project star Sarah Harris was sacked. However, in a shock twist, The Australian reported on Monday that Harris, 43, quit the network after being informed that a fresh news program would replace The Project. The publication added that management 'definitely' asked Harris to stay on, but the veteran reporter elected to take a break from her career after 12 years at Ten. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Pickering, meanwhile, dished behind-the-scenes secrets about the early days of The Project in the latest episode of the From The Newsroom podcast. 'One thing I remember very clearly about this show: Carrie and I were never meant to host it. It was an accident of showbiz that that happened,' the comedian, who went on to co-anchor the show for five years, on Monday. Cast initially on the show as regular panellists, the comedian and Bickmore, 44, were only meant to front up in auditions as producers searched for hosts. Explaining that he got 'bored' with the process, Pickering said he would tell jokes. Bickmore also started to improvise. 'She got bored of reading the same headlines over and over, so she started to get more involved in the conversations [with the panel],' he said. Producers ultimately auditioned Pickering and Bickmore. 'This was my Eminem, ''If you only had one shot …'' moment,' he said. 'I put the [host's] earpiece in – and I'd never really had to use one before, had never read an autocue before. 'But I had an advantage: I'd watched every audition, and I knew what had worked and what didn't. I sat in one host's chair, Carrie in the other host's chair … and it just clicked straight away.' The show, which debuted in July 2009 as The 7PM Project, went to air with Pickering, Bickmore and comedian Dave Hughes as hosts. Carrie announced her departure from The Project after 12 years on air in October 2022, after Hughes left in 2013 with Pickering making his exit in 2014. It comes after Bickmore shared a touching tribute to The Project after the flagship program was axed by Network 10 on Monday. The radio host, 44, took to Instagram on Thursday to post a 'trip down memory lane' celebrating her time on the show. Carrie also included a hilarious throwback clip reel to honour The Project team, past and present - including a few seconds from the very first episode. The famously bubbly host selected a series of gaffes and cringeworthy segments for her tribute, as well as fashion fails, including her own questionable 'hair looks'. She also included a clip of a touching throwback clip of a segment dedicated to her late husband Greg Lange who died of brain cancer at 35 in 2010. Bickmore also shared a publicity still from the early in which she can be seen posing beside co-host Charlie Pickering and panelist Dave Hughes. 'I've been on a trip down memory lane these last few days after the sad news about The Project ending after 16 years,' Carrie said in a lengthy story accompanying the post. She continued, 'It was a huge part of my life for 14 years and I made life long friends there. 'I have so much respect for all the hosts who have shared the chairs over the years. Especially the ones there now. 'The effort and creativity involved in turning around a daily news show is extraordinary and it's the faces you don't see who show up day after day that deserve so much credit. 'Boy we laughed, boy we cried, boy we told some incredible stories, and boy we fought for those who couldn't fight for themselves. 'Love us or hate us (everyone had very strong views. Many who hadn't even seen the show) but I hope we were company for you all and thank you for letting us in to your lounge rooms every night.

Carrie Bickmore's rumoured lover Tommy Little falls ill and requires an IV drip after running for her charity event in South Africa - as video footage of him vomiting on a tree emerges

He trained hard to compete in the Big Five marathon in South Africa over the weekend to raise money for his rumoured lover Carrie Bickmore 's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer charity. And while Tommy Little finished the long-distance foot race, it came at a price. The radio funnyman revealed he busted a calf muscle and 'spewed' post the 42.195km run. Tommy was filmed throwing up on a tree after the gruelling course. 'When I stop cramping I'll post some better content, but just wanted to let the people who are following along know that we survived the Big 5 Marathon! he wrote in an Instagram post. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I came in 22nd place and all I needed to do to achieve that was bust a calf muscle and spew to the point of needing an IV drip post race.' Tommy added that the donations he received, which will go towards Carrie's charity, was what kept him going as he almost quit 3km in. 'It was humbling and brilliant and if it wasn't for all you beautiful people that donated I absolutely would've given up 3kms in. Thank you. Love you. I'm gonna sleep and will post more tomorrow ❤️' he said. Carrie and Tommy were joined by several other celebrities in the marathon, including Sam Wood, Olivia Molly Rogers, Merrick Watts, Ned Brockman, Ellidy Pullin, Laura Enever and Trent Cotchin. Ahead of the event, Carrie broke down in tears after reading a heartbreaking letter from a mother who is battling brain cancer. The veteran presenter, 44, shared a clip to social media on Saturday in which she became emotional as she read out the sad letter she had received. 'I hope this letter finds you well. I am Courtney and I have had brain cancer since I was 34, nine years,' Carrie read out. I used to be a nurse and I loved it, but now I am the patient. When I woke up at hospital, I was told the diagnosis and my life expectancy was one to two years. 'I laughed at the doctors and told them they were wrong, told them I was leaving. I have a boy who is five years old now. Never once did I think I was going to die. 'This diagnosis has changed me for the better... I see more beauty in the world now.' Carrie's voice was heard breaking as she told fans it is important to continue to do charity work to support people like Courtney. 'It was heartbreaking but so inspiring and another reminder why we are here. You'll be there with me every step Courtney,' Carrie said. 'Please donate if you can, even just a few dollars. The link is in my bio. You CAN make a difference.' Last month, Carrie told Confidential that the big five African animals 'will make me run fast, that is for sure'. 'Last year they had to delay the start of the race because there was a lion roaming around. I've decided not to read up too much about it because I've decided if I read about it, I won't go,' she said. 'I'm just going to go there with my eyes closed and open them at the start line and see what happens.' Carrie set up her charity after her late husband, Greg Lange, lost his battle with brain cancer. She announced she would continue Greg's legacy with the charity during her Gold Logie acceptance speech in 2015.
