Downtown L.A. curfew limits overnight unrest
A curfew instituted Tuesday night appears to have had an effect following days of anti-ICE protests that have led to vandalism, fires and looting in Downtown Los Angeles. 'Let's start with some encouraging news,' KTLA reporter Carlos Herrera said from the streets of Downtown Los Angeles Wednesday morning. 'L.A. may have just experienced its quietest day this week.' There were no major acts of vandalism or reports of looting during the overnight hours after a fifth day of protests challenging the Trump administration's aggressive crackdown on illegal immigrants. L.A. Mayor Karen Bass announced on Tuesday that the curfew would be in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Wednesday, promising swift action would be taken against those who violated it. 'Law enforcement will arrest individuals who break the curfew, and you will be prosecuted. Hundreds of officers from police and sheriff departments from across the region and state are working alongside the LAPD through a unified command structure,' Bass said. Police started citing and arresting protesters who refused to leave immediately after the curfew went into effect for a roughly one-square-mile portion of Downtown Los Angeles. About two dozen people were arrested overnight on suspicion of violating the curfew, police said. Shortly before the curfew took effect, local faith leaders and demonstrators gathered for a prayer vigil at Grand Park before marching toward the Federal Building. 'We need to be peaceful, because otherwise the message is lost,' said Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles Rev. Canon Patricia O'Reilly. 'The message becomes one of violence. No, we don't want that. This is a peaceful demonstration today … We are saying that we are behind and with the immigrants in our city.' While most of the crowd honored the 8 p.m. curfew by dispersing, a crowd of about 150 people remained, prompting officers at one point to fire rubber bullets. More demonstrations are expected to take place on Wednesday. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Overnight looting follows 4th day of anti-ICE protests in Downtown L.A.; Bass blames raids
Several high-end businesses were among the many looted and vandalized overnight following a fourth day of protests over immigration raids in Downtown Los Angeles. KTLA's Carlos Herrera was outside the Apple Tower Theatre on West 8th Street and Broadway Tuesday morning as cleanup was underway following the overnight break-in and looting of the Apple store. 'No ICE' was spray-painted on the damaged glass windows in front of the store. Inside, broken glass was seen on the ground next to several items. Looters reportedly stole multiple iPhones, Apple Watches, laptops and chargers. Video showed officers taking two suspects into custody around midnight. Multiple jewelry stores were also hit overnight. A large mob was seen outside businesses on 6th Street and Broadway. Display boxes were left on the sidewalk, although it remains unclear exactly what was taken from the stores. One shop owner said he witnessed at least four attempted lootings in Los Angeles' Jewelry District. Meanwhile, a few blocks away on West 8th and Main Street, police were seen taking down a suspect believed to be involved in the looting of Shoe Palace. Several other suspects managed to run from the scene. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is blaming the unrest on the Trump administration's ramping up of ICE raids last week. 'I will just take you back to last Thursday. Last Thursday, there was nothing happening in this town that called for the raids that took place on Friday. Nothing was happening. Nothing warranted the raids,' Bass said. The mayor is also asking why the targets of the immigration raids have apparently changed. 'If you remember, at the beginning of this administration, we were told that raids would be to look for violent criminals, people who had warrants,' Bass said. 'But I don't know how you go from a drug dealer to a Home Depot. To people's workplaces, where they're just trying to make a living.' The city of Los Angeles has declared a tactical alert in an attempt to restore order. The crowds had dispersed as of Tuesday morning, but it was unclear if more protests were planned for later in the day. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Watch Live: Detroit City FC vs. Phoenix Rising FC
Detroit City Football Club heads west this Saturday evening to take on Western Conference opponent Phoenix Rising FC. Kickoff from Phoenix Rising Soccer Stadium is set for 10 p.m. and will be broadcast locally on CW Detroit 50 (WKBD-TV). For Michigan residents, the match is free to stream on DCFC comes into this match after a 0-0 draw against Monterey Bay FC last Saturday afternoon. Both teams came close to breaking the deadlock during the 90 minutes, but both goalkeepers were impressive and maintained a clean sheet, resulting in DCFC's second home draw of 2025. Following his impressive three-save clean sheet performance on Saturday, goalkeeper Carlos Herrera earned USL Championship Team of the Week honors for week five. In addition to the three saves, Herrera recorded 11 recoveries and completed 75% of his passes in a scoreless draw against his former club. As Le Rouge heads out on the road once again this weekend, it is already their fourth road match of the young six-week season. So far, Detroit has picked up six out of a possible nine points, with the 2-0 loss to Louisville City being the only time they have dropped points away from home. Phoenix Rising comes into this match with a 1-2-2 record to start the season. Last weekend, Rising picked up their first three points of the season in a 2-1 road victory against San Antonio FC. Phoenix would take the lead off a Rémi Cabral converted penalty in the 60th minute. San Antonio leveled the match with their own converted penalty five minutes later. Jearl Margaritha would score the only non-penalty of the match in the 68th minute to give Phoenix the victory. Even though it is early in the season, striker Rémi Cabral is again the club's leading scorer and is looking to continue that. With three goals in five matches, Cabral is already only four goals away from tying his team-high tally from last season. These two sides have faced off twice since DCFC joined the USL Championship in 2022. Last season at Keyworth, they played to a 1-1 draw. Ben Morris scored the opening goal in the ninth minute, but Giulio Doratiotto leveled the match in the 49th minute. The only time they played in Phoenix, Rising walked away with a 5-0 victory in 2023. Le Rouge returns to Keyworth Stadium next Wednesday evening for third-round action of the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Kickoff against USL League One side Westchester SC is set for 7 pm. League play continues at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday, April 19, as DCFC takes on Eastern Conference rival Rhode Island FC. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. Tickets for all Detroit City matches are available at For more information about Detroit City FC, visit and follow @DetroitCityFC on X and Facebook and @detroitcityfootballclub on Instagram.
