Pamper day and garden party among activities as care home opens doors to community

A garden party, seated sports, and a pamper day are among the activities planned as a Northwich care home opens its doors to the community. Acorn Meadow Care Home in Lostock Gralam will host a series of events from Monday, June 16 to Sunday, June 22 as part of Care Home Open Week, a nationwide initiative designed to build relationships between care homes and their communities. The home's main celebration for Care Home Open Week will take place on Thursday, June 19, with a garden party from 1.30pm to 4pm featuring live music, games, a barbecue, an ice cream van, a tombola, and more. Lorna Bennett, care home manager at Acorn Meadow, said: "We're delighted to open our doors once again for Care Home Open Week 2025 and welcome our local community into Acorn Meadow. "This week is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the compassionate care our team provides every day, and to show how our home is not just a place to live, but a vibrant part of the wider community. "We look forward to connecting with families, friends, and neighbours, and sharing the warmth and heart that make Acorn Meadow so special." The week's other activities include a pamper day on Monday, June 16, a performance by Lostock Ukes at 11am on Tuesday, June 17, and a visit from Northwich Hedgehog Rescue at 2.30pm the same day. On Wednesday, June 18, children from Antrobus Primary School will visit at 11am to sing for residents, and on Friday, June 20, a seated sports activity hosted by Rise will commence at 11am. Care Home Open Week is organised by Championing Social Care and gives care homes the chance to showcase their services, offer tours, and highlight the activities available to residents. This year, HC-One, which runs the care home, has adopted 'The Big Summer Weekender' as the week's theme, inspired by classic British summer holidays. Visitors will also have the opportunity to speak with staff about careers in care, and volunteering opportunities at the home. For more information, call 01606 654790 or email
