CPC awards 18 sport organizations with grants in support of Para sport programming Français
A total of $200,000 to be distributed through 2025-26 Paralympic Sport Development Fund OTTAWA, ON, June 18, 2025 /CNW/ - Eighteen sport organizations across Canada have been awarded 2025-26 Paralympic Sport Development Fund grants for a total of $200,000, the Canadian Paralympic Committee announced Wednesday. The complete list of recipients and their projects can be found HERE. Grants varying from $5,000 to $20,000, funded through the Paralympic Foundation of Canada, are being provided to support specific initiatives that contribute to athlete and coach development along the Paralympic pathway, including in areas related to recruitment, coaching, competition, club development, training camps, or other programming that enhances capacity. The recipient organizations are located across seven provinces, with four of the supported programs serving multiple regions throughout the country. The grants will enhance the development and programming of 14 sports, including two multi-sport initiatives. Two sports have received grants for the first time – Para climbing, which has been added to the Paralympic program for LA 2028, and five-a-side football. CPC is also supporting specific inclusion initiatives aimed at engaging more people with a disability in Para sport through increasing opportunities for under-represented groups. Two of these programs have been funded for 2025-26, supporting the increase of women and girls playing wheelchair tennis and creating a Para sport framework focusing on the needs of Indigenous communities. "The work of each of these organizations is so important to an inclusive, quality Paralympic sport system in Canada, and there are so many exciting initiatives being supported through the grants. The Paralympic Sport Development Fund has now granted more than $1.5 million to sport organizations in Canada and is an important part of CPC's commitment to fostering an inclusive Paralympic sport system in Canada.

Paralympian Michelle Stilwell elected vice-president of Canadian Paralympic Committee Français
OTTAWA, ON, June 2, 2025 /CNW/ - Paralympic champion Michelle Stilwell has been elected vice-president of the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) following the first meeting of its recently elected Board of Directors. A decorated four-time Paralympian, public servant, and tireless advocate, Stilwell brings diverse expertise to the role and a unique perspective on the power of sport to drive social impact, national unity, and systemic change. On the field of play, Stilwell achieved the rare feat of winning gold medals in two different sports – wheelchair basketball and Para athletics. She ultimately captured seven Paralympic podiums, including six gold, in her impressive career. Off the field of play, Stilwell served as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in British Columbia and as Minister of Social Development and Social Innovation, bringing deep insight into public policy and advocacy. Marc-André Fabien re-elected president of Canadian Paralympic Committee
OTTAWA, ON, April 26, 2025 /CNW/ - Marc-André Fabien has been re-elected president of the Canadian Paralympic Committee following a special general meeting in Ottawa on Saturday to confirm the CPC's new Board of Directors. Fabien, who has been president since 2017, was elected by CPC's 28 national sport organization members, with his term now extended until 2029. A seasoned and well-respected litigation lawyer, Fabien has been closely involved with the Paralympic Movement in Canada for more than two decades as a board member, fundraiser, and supporter. Fabien ran for the position opposite Paralympian Karolina Wisniewska. "I am honoured to have been elected to serve as president of the Canadian Paralympic Committee for four more years," said Fabien. "It is an immense privilege to work alongside all of our sport members and partners, and of course Canada's incredible Paralympians, to grow the Paralympic Movement across our great nation.
