Former Chelsea star is hit with FIVE-YEAR ban from football and fined after furious row with Samuel Eto'o
Former Chelsea star Geremi has been handed a five-year ban from football by Cameroon's FA and fined £13,000 following a dispute with federation president Samuel Eto'o. The 46-year-old, who earned 118 caps for Cameroon - the joint-second highest in the country's history - lifted the Premier League title with Chelsea in both 2005 and 2006. He also enjoyed spells at Real Madrid, Middlesbrough, and Newcastle before hanging up his boots in 2011. Since retiring, Geremi has often found himself at the centre of controversy. He previously held a role with the National Union of Footballers of Cameroon (Synafoc), but has now been hit with a lengthy ban after a fallout with Eto'o. The feud between the pair dates back to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in the Ivory Coast, during Cameroon's clash with Gambia. Geremi was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with a member of Eto'o's staff, which quickly escalated and resulted in the two having to be separated by those nearby. Reports in Cameroon claim Geremi was 'forcibly removed' by nearby security on the orders of FeCafoot officials - and the governing body has now ruled that the former midfielder must serve a lengthy ban as a consequence of his actions. 'We declare Geremi Sorel Njitap, the president of Synafoc, guilty of breaking the behaviour rules of our code of ethics,' a statement read. We sentence him to a ban from all forms of football activity for five years, and to a fine of ten million West African francs [£13,000]. He has ten days to submit a written appeal.' Geremi's assistant, Daniel Blaise Ngos, has also been sanctioned over the incident, receiving a two-year ban and a £6,500 fine. Geremi is expected to launch an appeal against the ruling, with reports suggesting he could take his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in a bid to overturn or reduce both the ban and £13,000 fine. He made headlines last year after splitting from his wife following DNA tests that revealed the two children he believed were his were actually fathered by her former partner.

54.60 Africa review – a freewheeling, weeklong tour around the continent
There is abundant charm, humour and a pointed sense of play fuelling Femi Elufowoju Jr's musical drama re-centring the narratives around Africa. Its charisma is reminiscent of his previous rollicking production at this venue, The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives, which featured some of the same actors. This is not as successful, despite its infectiousness. Ultz's set design is loose, initially bearing a coffin at its centre. The premise is that 11 travellers must embark on a quest across all 54 nations in Africa within a week, spurred on by ancestral mother Mama Africa (Suzette Llewellyn). It is not altogether clear what will happen if they fail despite the symbolic coffin; the play does not dwell on raising the stakes. The job of the characters is to 'demystify and justify' the continent. Based on writer-director Elufowoju's own travels, the collective odyssey encompasses personal, political, social and even environmental history along with myth and ideas around belonging. Spoken scenes are accompanied by interludes of exuberant song and dance. The performers are always entertaining: Munashe Chirisa oozes comic talent as a shopkeeper in Uganda and a traffic warden in Seychelles; Liana Cottrill is an astounding dancer; The Ganda Boys (Denis Mugagga and Daniel Sewagudde) weave music around scenes; while Elufowoju, following an illness in the cast, does a fine job of reading a part. We briefly hear about the colonial history of Cameroon and at one passport control, an officer challenges a traveller's dual African/British identity. We sweep reverentially into Robben Island, briefly stopping inside Nelson Mandela's former cell, and push through to Tunisia and a bristling encounter in Libya. Sometimes it is hard to work out what is happening. Scenes are often brief – giving little time to connect with characters – and heavy-handed in their messages. The drama feels baggy and more like sketches or riffs that contain little tension, story or characterisation. Maybe it is a deliberate endeavour to disrupt or diverge from a – western? – dramatic narrative so it is not led by these traditional elements. What takes their place is joyful but broad-brush, maybe too ambitious in what it is trying to achieve. Where it shares the same inventive staging and bubbling joy as The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives, there is little of its magnificent storytelling, despite the 11 adventuring storytellers. At the Arcola theatre, London, until 12 July

Mbeumo stance unchanged despite Thomas Frank appointment
Bryan Mbeumo remains keen to join Manchester United despite the appointment of Thomas Frank at Tottenham Hotspur. Frank has been named as the new head coach at Spurs and the ex-Brentford boss is reportedly open to a reunion with Mbeumo in North London. However, despite interest from Spurs and Mbeumo's relationship with Frank, the Brentford winger is giving priority to Manchester United. Advertisement The Cameroon international has informed other suitors that his preference is Old Trafford and journalist Ben Jacobs has said that Manchester United remain 'optimistic' about securing a deal. Ruben Amorim's side saw an offer worth £55m, including add-ons, rejected by Brentford earlier in the transfer window. The Bees value the 25-year-old at around £65m. Amorim has made Mbeumo a top target as Manchester United look to rebuild from their worst league campaign since 1974. The club finished 15th in the Premier League and were the fifth-lowest scorers in the division. Mbeumo scored 20 goals in the Premier League last season and added eight assists for Brentford. Talks are ongoing over a deal as United look to make their second signing of the summer. The Red Devils have already completed the £62.5m signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolves. On Juneteenth, a Colorado chocolate company challenges consumers to oppose slave labor
This Juneteenth, a Colorado company is calling attention to the continued use of child and slave labor in the production of chocolate. The owners of Bibamba Chocolate at Edgewater Public Market are hosting a chocolate making class on the Juneteenth holiday. Bibamba The Tcheunou family founded Bibamba Chocolate with the purchase of a 56-acre cacao growing farm in Cameroon in 2015. Their first cacao harvest was in 2020. The Tcheunous oversee every step of the process from the growing and harvesting of cacao beans to handcrafting the chocolate at their Denver area shop and factory. They say they strive to ensure their business is ethical and sustainable. The presence of slavery in much of the world's chocolate production is real, say the Tcheunous. CBS "Slave(ery) in (the) chocolate industry exists. They employ, get kids against their will to work in farms, cocoa farms," said Patrick Tcheunou. "Consumers have a big role to play. If they get more and more concerned about it and make the conscious decision to support the chocolate companies that do the right thing, I think more and more chocolate companies will start paying more attention to it." CBS "We directly employ all of our farm team and pay them more than living wage and health coverage," said Mara Tcheunou, describing the close working relationship with the company's production team in Cameroon. "It brings people a step closer to their food, not only feeling connected to their chocolate maker and their local business owners, but even a world away in Africa where everything is grown and where this all starts from." In addition to the Juneteenth class on Thursday, Bibamba Chocolate will be hosting chocolate making classes throughout the summer, offering a way to learn about sourcing and making informed food choices. Pre-registration is required. Juneteenth Artisan Chocolate-Making Class Thursday, June 19, 6:00–7:30 PM Bibamba Chocolate Factory, Edgewater Public Market, 5505 W. 20th Ave, Suite 132, Edgewater, CO 80214 Tickets: $65/person Info & Registration:
