Raptors Named in Trade Report After Giannis Antetokounmpo News

Raptors Named in Trade Report After Giannis Antetokounmpo News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Raptors missed the playoffs for the third consecutive season this year, but their future looks bright. Toronto ended the regular season as the No. 11 seed in the East and was the first team on the outside of the Play-In Tournament. Advertisement Toronto also has a young core with a lot of potential, and it has yet to see Brandon Ingram (who it acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans at the trade deadline) suit up. However, perhaps most interestingly, there is reportedly mutual interest in a trade involving Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Raptors (h/t Doug Smith of the Toronto Star). The Raptors have also recently been named in another trade report that could impact their status in the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes. Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo (34).Brad Penner-Imagn Images While nothing is official, many believe the Bucks could move on from their top star this offseason after another first-round playoff exit. If the Bucks do entertain trade offers for him, the Raptors are a team to keep an eye on. However, they are far from the only one. Advertisement Per the latest reports, the Raptors could move away from their No. 9 spot in the NBA Draft and could acquire Brooklyn Nets forward Cam Johnson, which could open the door for them to land Antetokounmpo instead. "Hearing Nets may want to move up from #19 to the lottery, offering [Cam Johnson] and #19 to Raptors or Rockets for either Raps 9th or Rockets 10th plus a bad contract," NetsDaily wrote on X. "That would give Nets two picks in top 10 (presupposing neither team would need picks for Giannis trade.)" With the NBA Draft set to take place later this month, it should not take too long for there to be more clarity. Regardless, both the Raptors and Nets are teams to watch out for in the Antetokounmpo market. If either of them can swing a deal for him, it would drastically change their standing in the league. Report: Nets may trade Cam Johnson and 19th pick to get Lottery pick

The Brooklyn Nets came away from the 2025 NBA Draft Lottery hoping to get the first overall pick that would allow them to take Duke forward Cooper Flagg to begin their rebuild with a hot start. Unfortunately for Brooklyn, they came away from the Lottery with the eighth overall pick, but it looks like they are trying to take the Draft into their own hands. Per NetsDaily on Wednesday via X, the Nets "may want to move up from #19 to the lottery, offering CamJ and #19 to Raptors or Rockets for either Raps 9th or Rockets 10th plus a bad contract." Since the Lottery passed, there has been consistent reporting alluding to the possibility of Brooklyn trying to shake things up by either using their best pick to move up or by getting another Lottery pick. Advertisement "That would give Nets two picks in top 10 (presupposing neither team would need picks for Giannis trade.)," NetsDaily's post continued. Nets forward Cam Johnson has been consistently brought up in trade rumors ever since last offseason when the Nets began their rebuild by trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks in exchange for draft picks, but it seems like these reports about Brooklyn and the Draft are increasing in frequency. Brian Lewis of the New York Post reported in May that "there is a sentiment around the league the Nets could look to land a second lottery pick by consolidating and packaging some combination of Johnson, those picks at the end of the first round and/or future draft capital." This report followed one by NBA insider Jake Fischer in which the belief among rival teams is that the Nets are going to attempt to trade up in the Draft. When it comes to the term "bad contract," it will be interesting to see what that means for either the Toronto Raptors, who have the ninth overall pick, or the Houston Rockets, who have the 10th overall pick. Johnson, who is slated to make $20.5 million for the 2025-26 season, could potentially get Brooklyn someone like center Jakob Poeltl or forward RJ Barrett from the Raptors or players like forwards Jabari Smith Jr. or Dillon Brooks from the Rockets. Report: Nets among most likely teams to trade up in 2025 NBA Draft

The Brooklyn Nets are less than one month away from making some important decisions in the 2025 NBA Draft pertaining to the players that they select with those picks. Brooklyn has five picks in the upcoming Draft, including four in the first round, and while they are doing as much homework on the class as possible, they could be looking for other deals at the same time. The Nets, among other teams, have been "mentioned by rival executives as teams to monitor for potential trades up into the late lottery," according to NBA insider Jake Fischer in his article for The Stein Line. This report follows others made by Fischer in which other teams around the league expect Brooklyn to be one of the teams to shake things up in some way. Advertisement NetsDaily recently reported that the Nets may use forward Cam Johnson and the 19th overall pick to get a second Lottery pick. What that means in practice remains to be seen given that the implication is for Brooklyn to get a Lottery pick that is close to No. 8 if not better. Prior to NetsDaily's report, Brian Lewis of the New York Post relayed that the Nets may use Johnson to get their desired outcome. Ultimately, there is still plenty of time between the writing of this article and when the Draft begins on June 25 so whether Brooklyn is able to pull off a Draft trade remains to be seen. NetsDaily reported that the Nets are targeting the 10th overall pick, owned by the Houston Rockets, or the ninth overall pick, which is in possession of the Toronto Raptors. NetsDaily included in his report that the Nets would be willing to offer the aforementioned deal including Johnson and the No. 19 pick along with taking on a bad contract to make the deal work. As the Draft gets closer, it seems that the sentiment around the league is that Brooklyn will be one of the more active teams heading into the event and given where the Nets are in terms of roster construction, making deals could allow them to maximize their assets. How should the Nets spend their money in the 2025 NBA offseason?

How should the Nets spend their money in the 2025 NBA offseason? The Brooklyn Nets have some important decisions to make this summer as they have to navigate the 2025 NBA Draft along with everything else that comes with the offseason. Brooklyn will add some young talent to the roster through the Draft in June, but they will also have to figure out what to do with all of the cap space that they have this summer. There are a number of ways that the Nets can utilize the cap space they have, the most obvious of which would be signing free-agents, including their own. As of this writing, Brooklyn has 10 players that are technically free-agents this summer with four of those players having team options for next season. Ultimately, the Nets will have to decide which free-agents they're signing, but they can also get creative with their cap space. "No teams has cap space like the Nets this summer," Eric Pincus wrote for Bleacher Report when reviewing Brooklyn's financial decisions. "They could go star-chasing or veer in the opposite direction, trading away veterans like Cam Johnson and Nicolas Claxton to bottom out further. The latter would involve using cap room to take on another team's unwanted salary in return for draft picks and young talent." This summer has been interesting to see from the Nets' point of view given that they have four first-round picks in the upcoming Draft, but they are also rumored to have interest in trading for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo if he requests a trade. As Pincus noted, Brooklyn can also go the route of continuing the rebuild with the goal of finding their next star and trying to build around that player heading into the near future. There are also reports of the Nets potentially looking to shake things up in the upcoming Draft, whether that involves them trading up in the Draft, acquiring a second pick in the Lottery, or pushing some of their first-round picks into future years to always have a leg up on the competition. Either way, Brooklyn has plenty of options thanks to their draft capital and cap space, but the choices they make will be more important as a result.

Nets land one player on The Ringer's top 100 after tanking season

Mandatory Credit: Daniel Kucin Jr.-Imagn Images The post Nets land one player on The Ringer's top 100 after tanking season appeared first on ClutchPoints. With the 2024-25 NBA season nearing its close, a new hierarchy is emerging amongst the league's players. The Ringer released its updated top 100 players list on Thursday. Only one member of the Brooklyn Nets made the cut, with Cam Johnson coming in at No. 75. Advertisement 'Older NBA prospects—like Cam Johnson, who was 23 years old when he was drafted in 2019—typically don't have high ceilings. So it made sense that Johnson was a good but not great contributor for a while in Phoenix: He was an excellent shooter with a career 40 percent mark from distance who lacked any other standout skills. Now in his late 20s, however, Johnson is coming into his own as a more well-rounded offensive threat,' wrote Zach Kram. 'He's seizing on the ample opportunities up for grabs in Brooklyn: He's initiating more offense, creating more shots for himself, and becoming even more efficient despite the increased volume. Although he surprisingly stayed put in Brooklyn past the trade deadline, his ultimate destination might still be as a role player for a contender—but now Johnson would fill that role with more oomph than ever before.' Johnson is coming off a career-best season during which he averaged 18.8 points and 3.4 assists on 48/39/89 shooting splits. He and Desmond Bane were the NBA's only players to average at least 18 points on such efficiency. With the Nets in the early stages of a rebuild, the 28-year-old could be a trade candidate leading up to the draft. Nic Claxton and Cam Thomas were notable omissions from the Ringer's list. Cam Johnson is lone Nets representative on The Ringer's NBA Top 100 Robert Goddin-Imagn Images Claxton had previously made the list, coming in at No. 60 following the 2022-23 campaign and No. 95 following 2023-24. His slide out of the Top 100 underscores a dip in production as Brooklyn continues a teardown of its roster. Advertisement Claxton, considered a Defensive Player of the Year candidate two seasons ago, struggled to produce at his accustomed level while battling injuries this season. He averaged 10.3 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 blocks on 56.3 percent shooting, his lowest since his rookie season. The 26-year-old suffered a back injury during the offseason that forced him to receive an epidural early in the year. Claxton told reporters at his exit interview that his back was 'still bothering him,' but he would not need any procedure during the offseason. Thomas has never made the Ringer's top 100 list. The 23-year-old further cemented his place as the Nets' lead offensive option this season, averaging 24.0 points on 44/35/88 shooting splits. However, he appeared in just 25 games while suffering three injuries to his left hamstring. Thomas remains a polarizing player following his fourth NBA season. While he has proven capable of consistently posting monstrous scoring efforts, his playmaking and defense continue to raise questions about his long-term role. Advertisement The former first-round pick saw a slight uptick in his assist numbers this season, averaging 3.8 per game, although still well below other players with similar usage rates. His defense left much to be desired. Thomas posted a plus-6.8 defensive rating, the worst mark on the Nets, per CleaningTheGlass. Despite this, Thomas has likely done enough over the last two seasons offensively to earn a significant payday. The Virginia native will be a restricted free agent this summer.
