Femininity and fragrance: Angelina Kendall on being the face of narciso rodriguez' latest scent

There's a magnetic quality to Angelina Kendall. At just 19 years old, the model has already graced international runways and magazine covers, bringing a natural blend of confidence and elegance to every project she undertakes. Now, as the muse for narciso rodriguez for her eau de parfum intense, she steps into a role that feels tailor-made for her: a celebration of femininity in its most authentic, modern and empowering form. Kendall's journey into the spotlight was serendipitous. She was scouted during the pandemic, quickly making her mark in the fashion world. Her background – she was born in Australia but has also lived in Brazil – has shaped her into someone who radiates warmth, ambition and an appreciation for life's simple pleasures. This mix of depth and natural beauty caught the attention of designer Narciso Rodriguez, who describes Kendall as 'a rare, flawless and timeless kind of beauty'. The model embodies the essence of the 'for her' woman – ambitious, daring and in tune with herself. This new launch is brought to life through a bold, emotionally charged film, captured by legendary photographer Mario Sorrenti, in which we hear the muse's voice, adding intimacy and authenticity. In a dreamlike sequence, Kendall explores the layers of her personality and femininity in ways never seen before in the fragrance house's universe. The launch of for her eau de parfum intense marks a bold new chapter in the collection. Created by master perfumer Sonia Constant, it reinvents the signature heart of musk, amplifying its intensity with layers of peach, Calabrian bergamot, white florals and red spider lily. At its base, warm amber, vanilla and moss create a lasting impression of sensuality and strength. As Kendall reflects on her role as the new for her muse, she says it is more than just a campaign, it's an opportunity to celebrate authenticity, confidence and the beauty of being unapologetically oneself. I spent most of my life in Sydney, but also spent two years in regional Australia and one in Rio, Brazil, where my mum is from. I think this change in environment throughout my childhood forced me to be outgoing and confident around new people. One of my most notable attributes is that I love a chat – I'm always up for one! To me, femininity means harnessing your most authentic self. It's about living life without apology and embracing all parts of yourself, even your imperfections. Femininity used to equate to being soft or submissive, but now it has evolved to be about celebrating the best attributes of yourself. When I received the confirmation, I honestly couldn't believe it. I was so excited to see what the house had planned for the next chapter of the iconic for her fragrance. Once I was on set, it sunk in how special this project really was. To be the muse of this scent and to portray this woman who is so empowered by her femininity really allows me to connect to my inner self. It's truly so exciting to be involved in such a celebration of female empowerment. I've always stripped myself down to quite an authentic way of living. I think it's the best way to truly enjoy experiences and the relationships you make with others. In saying that, like everyone, I have some things I prefer to keep to myself. To me, this authenticity means being vulnerable enough to seek those who truly want to be around you – for you, and nothing else. It's a scary thing to be so raw with others, but I try to apply it to my daily life by asking myself whether I'm doing things for my own validation or for that of others. It plays a vital role. It's almost like a second skin, something that people associate with your presence. It's important to find a scent that you feel captures your personality and essence, or helps you to be more authentically yourself. To me, self-care is about honouring both your physical and mental needs. It's about getting outdoors or pampering yourself with a relaxing spa day, as much as recharging your social battery and reconnecting with your loved ones. Everyone finds happiness in different things, so I'd recommend doing things that give you a sense of purpose and make you excited. I maximise my happiness by meeting and connecting with people, moving my body and working towards goals. I find the most happiness and motivation in self-improvement. Without purpose, it's easy to become bored and lazy, losing this sense of fulfilment. Find your signature scent at narciso rodriguez

If you missed these new Calgary eateries, now's the time to try them

We're halfway through 2025 and, while the explosion in new restaurants has slowed somewhat, we thought we'd summarize some worth trying. Our food writer, Elizabeth Chorney-Booth, has covered all of them, so this is just a sample of some of her picks. Keep watching these pages weekly to see what else she uncovers for the second half of the year. Article content Article content Article content The first option is temporary, so make sure to make tracks to Love Damian. A pop-up in the Meat and Bread sandwich shop. The food is relatively unfussy northern Italian fare, created in homage to Kyle Opel's family background and time spent eating and enjoying life in the province of Parma. Article content Article content The menu is intentionally small – there's only so much Opel and his one other chef can do behind the sandwich counter, so simplicity is key, but every dish packs flavour and finesse. Start with 18-hour fermented focaccia, impossibly crisp on the top and light as air in the middle, with a choice of dip ($6). There's a traditional family recipe for handmade anolini pasta, stuffed with braised beef and swimming in a fragrant chicken broth ($22), heirloom carrots laid over a bed of housemade ricotta and spiced up with hot honey and Calabrian chilies ($19), beef and pork two-sheet lasagna brilliantly designed so that every piece is like a crispy corner piece ($28) and a perfectly cooked piece of cod with Swiss chard, potatoes, and grapes ($38). Article content Article content We're headed into a new era of craft distilleries here in Calgary. The latest is the ambitious True Wild Distilling, a grand facility located in a beautifully renovated 1911 historic electrical substation building. Article content Unfortunately, none will be available for at least half a decade. True Wild's Bryce Parsons wants to ensure he only puts the label on the best of the best, which means a five or six-year wait. Article content In the interim, they're showcasing True Wild's dedication to luxury and quality with a surprisingly excellent new on-site restaurant. Article content While the facility certainly fits the bill when it comes to looking like a stately den for well-heeled imbibers, it's the food that seals the deal here. For appetizers, there's an outstanding beef tartare covered by a haystack of fried potatoes ($24), lengths of bone marrow paired with malted barley sourdough toast ($22), and both raw and baked oysters ($4/$8 each, respectively). The entrees, unsurprisingly, skew towards large-format meats, with choices like a formidable half-kilo dry-aged sirloin ($90), a lamb shoulder chop with charred pickled carrots ($42) or grilled rainbow trout with spiced brown butter emulsion ($40). Yes, there are vegetables: the smoked cauliflower with garlic dressing and soy whip ($18) is just as good as anything from the meat section.

Plant-Based in Memphis: My Top Vegan & Veg-Friendly Eats

Share with your friends! Pinterest LinkedIn Email Flipboard Reddit I spent a recent weekend in Memphis and made it my mission to explore some of the city's plant-based offerings — and wow, did it deliver! From creative veggie-forward dishes to indulgent bites, I barely scratched the surface of what Memphis has to offer. If you're plant-based in Memphis, get ready to swoon. While I didn't make it to every vegan café or fully plant-based spot (there are so many!), the places I did visit made a lasting impression. I especially love discovering vegetarian and vegan dishes at restaurants that aren't strictly plant-based — it shows just how much thought and creativity Memphis chefs are pouring into their menus. These are a few of my favorite bites from the trip, and I'm already making a wish list for next time. The Archives Bar & Bistro I popped into The Archives for a pre-dinner bite and was pleasantly surprised by their seasonal salad, dressed in a house-made balsamic that was rich, tangy, and full of depth. While I didn't try it this time, the cauliflower steak with mushroom risotto caught my eye, and it's high on my list when they reopen. Editor's Note: As of May 2025, The Archives Bar & Bistro is closed for renovations. Visit their Instagram for updates! Pin JEM For something elegant and inventive, JEM was a highlight of my trip. I started with the marinated eggplant — served with creamy garlic hummus, spiced honey, sunflower Romesco, mint, and house-made pita. It was a beautiful balance of smoky, sweet, and fresh. Dinner was pillowy gnocchi tossed with sweet Vidalia onions and spicy Calabrian chiles — rich, comforting, and perfectly balanced. Pin Hive Hive is a cozy daytime spot where I kicked off one morning with a bagel and hummus. Simple, satisfying, and yes, I caved and snagged a croissant, too. Not strictly plant-based, but when they look that flaky and golden, who can resist? Pin This iconic spot in Cooper-Young has plenty to offer plant-based diners, especially during brunch. I ordered the Thai-style Breakfast Bowl, a vibrant mix of coconut, saffron, and lemongrass-ginger-lime broth layered with maitake mushrooms, avocado, pearl jade rice, crispy tofu, and a crunchy cabbage-watermelon slaw. It's as flavorful as it sounds, and one of the most creative brunch dishes I've ever had. Pin Amelia Gene's Looking for something upscale? Amelia Gene's is your place. My dinner began with a delicate tempura squash blossom over a bed of ratatouille — a visual and culinary treat. For my entrée: pesto pasta, simple yet full of depth. It was the kind of dinner that feels special, but not fussy. Pin City Silo No trip is complete without a great breakfast to go, and City Silo had me covered. Their avocado toast was fresh, flavorful, and the perfect send-off before hitting the road. Pro tip: Grab a smoothie or wellness latte for the drive! Pin Whether you're plant-based full-time or just exploring more veggie-forward meals, Memphis has plenty to offer beyond its famous ribs. These spots prove that flavor, creativity, and presentation are alive and well in the city's plant-based scene. And I can't wait to go back for round two. Until next time, Memphis! ********** For more food and dining recommendations, visit our archives. This Summer's Spicy, Zesty Flavor Trends Point To Southern Italy

Two classic Calabrian ingredients—chili peppers and bergamot—are increasingly appearing on ... More restaurant and bar menus, especially in cocktails. Consider this your Hot Southern Italian Summer—Calabria is setting spicy, zesty flavor trends for food and beverages this season. This southernmost region on the Italian peninsula has long been overshadowed by its northern neighbors. Around the world, we've come to know and love dishes and drinks from all over Italy—from Parma's famous cheese to Naples' beloved pizza and Florence's classic negroni—but as we head into the warmer months of 2025, more restaurants and bars are turning their attention to the place many Italians choose for their annual beach getaways. In particular, two uniquely Calabrian ingredients are having their moment in the spotlight: bergamot and chili pepper. 90% of the world's bergamot grows in the southern Italian region of Calabria. Bergamot is a type of citrus that is likely a cross between an orange and lemon. In shape and size, it appears more like the former, while the tart taste is more like the latter, and it's often harvested unripe when it has the same green hue of a lime. About 90% of all bergamots are grown in Calabria. Unless you travel there, it's rare to find them in the form of fresh fruit, but bergamot has long been a familiar flavor around the globe—since 1831, it has complemented the black tea in Twinings Earl Grey. While bergamot continues to be an important ingredient in hot teas, research from the food and beverage market research firm Datassential indicates that this citrus is ready to stand on its own as a primary ingredient in other creative preparations—especially in cocktails and desserts. With 17% growth in the past four years and 34% growth predicted for the next four years, get ready to see a lot more bergamot. Calabrian chili peppers are often dried, then pulverized into flakes that can easily be sprinkled ... More over a wide array of dishes to add a little spicy heat. When the word 'Calabrian'—or the Italian equivalent 'Calabrese'—appears on a menu, you can usually expect a little something spicy. Undoubtedly the region's most famous export, Calabrian chili peppers are gaining popularity far beyond Italy's borders. In the past four years, their presence on U.S. menus has seen a 27% increase, according to another report by Datassential. With their slightly smoky flavor and medium heat level, these peppers are highly versatile. Though they're most commonly used in their dried form as flakes atop pizzas and pastas, they can also be infused in honey or steeped in simple syrup to add complexity to desserts or cocktails. At Allora Vineyard in Oregon's Willamette Valley, Chef Denali Whaley serves butter poached halibut ... More with Calabrian chili oil, fava beans and herbs. Fortunately, it's becoming easier to get your first taste of bergamots and Calabrian chili peppers outside Italy. 'Calabrian chili peppers are one of my favorite ingredients,' says Chef Denali Whaley of Alloro Vineyard in Oregon's Willamette Valley. Inspired by both the southern Italian heritage of the vineyard's owner, David Nemarnik, and local ingredients, Whaley makes her own Calabrian chili oil and has drizzled it over pasta dishes, such as ricotta gnocchi with spring alliums, as well as butter poached halibut served with fava beans and herbs. Head to nearby Portland to experience these peppers in a more traditional way, sprinkled over one of the USA's 50 Top Pizzas at Ken's Artisan. At the city's Little Bitter Bar, enjoy cocktails infused with the distinct flavor of bergamot from two of Calabria's most famous bitter spirits: Vecchio Amaro del Capo and Italicus. Vecchio Amaro del Capo—which is flavored with twenty-nine herbs, flowers, fruits, and roots that are typical of Calabria and was featured on the Forbes 100 Italian specialties list in 2023—is starting to pop up at U.S. bars across the country, all the way from the Pacific Northwest to Amor y Amargo in New York City. Most locations offer the classic version of this liquor, but you may even come across their Red Hot Edition, spiked with Calabrian chili. The Italian spirit Vecchio Amaro del Capo should always be served chilled and comes in a spicy ... More version flavored with Calabrian chili peppers. It's not just bartenders who are experimenting with Calabrian ingredients. In Los Angeles, two natives of the region have created a full menu drawing on flavors from their homeland at Civico 2064, including several vegan pasta dishes. These particular peppers also appear on pastas and a spicy caesar salad on the menu at Sagra in Wisconsin. Meanwhile in Maryland, Ruse combines both Calabrian chili and bergamot on scallops, and in California, Street Social whips the citrus into ice cream sandwiched between black sesame pizzelle. If you want to bring a little of Calabria home with you, order bergamot as candied peels or marmalade from Italian suppliers like Gustiamo. To add a touch of southern Italian heat in your kitchen, buy organic Calabrian chili flakes like these from Kitchen Garden Farm or grow your own with seeds, such as these from Foraged. Wherever you are this summer, keep an eye out for these spicy, zesty flavor trends and other tastes of Calabria.
