Nepal and West Indies set to play first bilateral T20I series in September
ANI 13 Jun 2025, 15:09 GMT+10 New Delhi [India], June 13 (ANI): Nepal and the West Indies are set to square off against each other in a three-match T20I series in September in Sharjah, marking the first bilateral series between the two sides. Despite the games being played at a neutral venue, Nepal has been assigned as the series' official host. A statement from Cricket West Indies (CWI) called the series historic and stated that the board's 'engagement reflects its strong commitment to supporting the development of cricket in emerging nations and fostering meaningful partnerships with fellow cricketing boards worldwide.' 'This series is more than just a set of international matches--it's a celebration of the game's expanding global footprint and a testament to what cricket represents: pride, purpose, and the power of unity. As a full-member nation, we see it as part of our responsibility to contribute to the development of cricket beyond our borders,' CWI CEO Chris Dehring said in a statement by the CWI. 'Supporting Nepal in this key phase of their cricketing journey not only builds the sport at the grassroots and international levels but also reminds us of the deep pride and honour associated with representing our nation and wearing our national colours. We are proud to stand with Nepal at this moment in their history and look forward to exciting and competitive cricket in Sharjah,' Dehring added. The series will kick off on September 27, followed by the second T20I on the next day, and the three-match affair will conclude on September 30. All matches will be played at the same venue in Sharjah. CWI extended 'its sincere thanks to the Cricket Association of Nepal and the Emirates Cricket Board for their collaboration in organising the series and looks forward to continuing to work together towards advancing the global growth and accessibility of the game of cricket.' Pak to tour WI for ODIs, T20s in July
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has completed internal discussions regarding the white-ball squads for upcoming international assignments, sources confirmed on Thursday. According to insiders, the PCB is waiting for a response from the West Indies Cricket Board (CWI) on a proposal to convert the three-match ODI series into T20 Internationals (T20Is). If approved, the board is expected to announce a joint T20 squad for both the Bangladesh and West Indies series. Sources said that the PCB is hopeful the CWI will agree to the proposed change, as the switch would align better with preparations for the T20-format ACC Men's Asia Cup 2025 and the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. The squad announcement is expected soon after a formal response is received from the West Indies board. While no major changes are anticipated in the T20 squad, sources indicate that left-arm spinner Sufiyan Muqeem is likely to be included. However, the return of senior players Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shaheen Afridi remains uncertain for the upcoming matches. The PCB's selection committee is hopeful that these senior players will bounce back, taking inspiration from other top players who made successful comebacks in the past. Players have been told that the door for selection remains open, and strong performances in domestic and league cricket will improve their chances of a recall. The selection committee is also focusing on identifying and preparing young talent to meet the demands of modern cricket. Pakistan is currently scheduled to tour the USA and West Indies in July and August for a white-ball series, which includes three T20Is and three ODIs. The T20Is are set to take place on July 31, August 2, and August 3, while the ODIs are planned for August 8, 10, and 12 at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad. However, the schedule may be revised if the ODI matches are officially converted to T20Is following further discussions between the PCB and CWI. Change in selection committee The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday confirmed that only one change has been made to the national men's selection committee, which otherwise remains 'intact'. In an official statement, the board clarified that data analyst Hassan Cheema has been replaced by Usman Hashmi, who will assist the selection committee but will not have any voting rights during team selection. "The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that the national selection committee remains intact," the statement read. A PCB spokesperson added, "The Board has only replaced the data analyst, who will have no voting right during team selection. Hassan Cheema has been replaced by Usman Hashmi as the data analyst to assist the selection committee." The rest of the selection panel remains unchanged, including former interim head coach Aaqib Javed, umpire Aleem Dar, and former cricketers Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq - all of whom hold voting rights. Members of the national selection committee: Aaqib Javed (Member), Aleem Dar (Member), Asad Shafiq (Member), Azhar Ali (Member). The PCB also stated that the committee will remain bound to consult with the head coach and captain of the respective teams before finalizing any squad. This statement came in response to recent media reports claiming a major reshuffle in the committee was expected, which included the possible removal of Azhar Ali and Asad Shafiq. Reports had suggested that former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed and cricket analyst Sikandar Bakht - known for frequently criticizing PCB policies - were being considered as replacements.

West Indies announce 16-player squad for home Tests against Australia; Kemar Roach dropped
St. John's : West Indies unveiled its 16-player squad that will compete for the coveted Sir Frank Worrell Trophy in the upcoming three home Tests against Australia, which is scheduled to kick off on June 25th at Kensington Oval in Barbados. The series will be critical for both sides, considering that the three Tests will mark the beginning of their World Test Championship 2025-2027 cycle. West Indies' squad is emitting signs of a fresh start as several changes have been made to the team that last featured in the drawn series against Pakistan earlier this year. John Campbell has returned to the squad for the first time since 2022, bolstering the options at the top of the order. He earned his call-up after three years courtesy of his prolific domestic season, which included three centuries. Along with Campbell, Keacy Carty has been recalled to the Test fold after his stint in Pakistan. The decision stems from his prolific form with the bat across all formats. Last month, the 28-year-old hammered two centuries in the ODIs against Ireland and finished as the highest run-getter for the Men in Maroon in the three 50-over fixtures in England. West Indies white-ball captain Shai Hope has returned to red-ball cricket for the first time since 2021. Brandon King, his deputy in ODI format, earned a maiden call-up along with Kevlon Anderson. CWI Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe expressed that the selections for the challenge against the Baggy Greens were made in line with the team's commitment to establish an execution-driven identity in Test cricket. He affirmed that consistency in batting output and a dynamic bowling attack were key in the overall assessment. "The start of the Test Championship Cycle is critical to building positive momentum as we strive to work our way up the rankings. Beginning with a strong showing against a team like Australia would be ideal in our quest to bring West Indies back to the helm of Test Cricket," Bascombe said in a statement released by CWI. "It was imperative that we sought to put a squad together that was well equipped, in both and the batting and bowling departments, to manage the ebbs and flows of this format of the game, while possessing the ability to apply pressure in key phases, through disciplined, purposeful play," he added. Jayden Seales, Alzarri Joseph, and Shamar Joseph will headline the fast-bowling attack for the hosts. Additionally, Johann Layne, a 21-year-old product of the West Indies Academy, who scalped 63 first-class wickets in 17 matches, along with Anderson Phillip, who recently dazzled with a 5-wicket haul for West Indies A against South Africa A, have been called up to provide reinforcement. Skipper Roston Chase and his deputy Jomel Warrican will handle spin responsibilities. Despite being considered, veteran pacer Kemar Roach has not been included and has been duly informed. Apart from Roach, Gudakesh Motie, Kavem Hodge, Alick Athanaze, Joshua Da Silva, Amir Jangoo, and Kevin Sinclair have been dropped from the series. While asking for patience from the fans towards the players, head coach Darren Sammy declared they can look forward to an exciting style over the series. "I am truly looking forward to this series because we want to start off strongly and make our home turf a fortress during this cycle while having our passionate and proud fans behind us. The matches will be challenging, but I believe in this core of players, and they are eager to wear the maroon and make our fans happy," he said. West Indies Test Squad for Series Against Australia: Roston Chase (Captain), Jomel Warrican (Vice Captain), Kevlon Anderson, Kraigg Brathwaite, John Campbell, Keacy Carty, Justin Greaves, Shai Hope, Tevin Imlach, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Johann Layne, Mikyle Louis, Anderson Phillip, Jayden Seales.
