DYFI holds protest march to Accountant General office in Thiruvananthapuram
Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], June 12 (ANI): The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) Thiruvananthapuram committee took out a protest march in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday to the Accountant General (AG) office. The DYFI workers alleged that the Union Government is cutting down posts and closing the regional offices of the AG department. The protestors were dispersed by the police with the use of water cannons. Meanwhile, the politics in Kerala have heated up due to the upcoming Nilambur assembly by-election. On Thursday, hitting out at Congress and CPI-M ahead of the Nilambur assembly by-polls, BJP leader V Muraleedharan alleged that instead of raising common issues, both parties are trying to get votes from pro-terrorists and communal organisations. He highlighted that the election became necessary due to the resignation of the MLA, who had said that the Kerala CM is 'protecting' the underground elements and smugglers. 'Instead of raising key concerns of Nilambur and Kerala, both the Congress and the Communists (CPI-M) are trying to get the votes of pro-terrorist and pro-communal organisations... This election was necessitated due to the resignation of an MLA who said that the Kerala CM is protecting underground elements and smugglers', V Muraleedharan told ANI. The former Union Minister said that instead of discussing issues, both Congress and CPI-M are after the votes of Jamaat-e-Islami, whose motto is to form religion-based governments. He also alleged that the Congress created a misunderstanding about the stance of the Indian government over Israel and said that both Congress and CPI-M are supporting Hamas. 'Instead of discussing this issue, both parties are after the votes of Jamaat-e-Islami, whose motto is religion-based governments. Congress is also trying to create a misunderstanding that the Indian Government has changed its stand on Israel. Both (Congress and CPI-M) are trying to get the support of those elements who support Hamas', V Muraleedharan said. The election for the Nilambur seat was necessitated after the resignation of PV Anvar, an LDF-backed MLA, who stepped down in January after making several allegations against the Left government in the state, including claims of RSS influence in the home department and the framing of Muslim youth in false cases. The election will be held on June 19, and the counting is scheduled for June 23. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) have fielded Michael George as their candidate from the Nilambur assembly constituency in the upcoming bypolls. (ANI)

Both parties trying to get votes of pro terrorist and communal organisations: V Muraleedharan slams Congress and CPI-M ahead of Nilambur by polls
Malappuram (Kerala) [India], June 12 (ANI): Hitting out at Congress and CPI-M ahead of the Nilambur assembly by-polls, BJP leader V Muraleedharan alleged that instead of raising common issues, both parties are trying to get votes from pro-terrorists and communal organisations. CPI-M delegation visits Uri to support shelling-affected residents; slams govt for inadequate compensation, neglect
Uri (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 11 (ANI): A delegation of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), including the party's General Secretary MA Baby, visited Uri in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district to meet people affected by shelling by Pakistan. CPI-M General Secretary MA Baby expressed reservations over the compensation amount of Rs 1.3 lakh given to the affected residents. 'The situation here is highly distressing, as you would have seen with the drone and shelling attacks. The government has only given Rs 1.3 lakh as compensation, which these days cannot even buy a proper door and window. This is highly deplorable, and we strongly disagree with the government's attitude. The democratic process has been destroyed here. Omar Abdullah is the Chief Minister; this is a Union Territory, and Modi and Amit Shah are controlling everything. We heard that the review meeting conducted with the Lieutenant Governor excluded the Chief Minister,' he said. He further addressed the plight of the people affected by shelling, saying, 'An eight-member family has been given a small room--this attitude of the government needs to change. We, MPs from West Bengal, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, and other corners of the state, came here to raise the plight of people in border areas. We demanded a special session to discuss it, but the Prime Minister refused. He didn't even attend the all-party meeting, only giving lectures here and there.' One of the delegates, CPI-M leader Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami, said, 'The people living in border villages should have access to bunkers for their safety. We have come here to express solidarity and tell them we stand with them. We assure them that we will be their voice in Parliament.' The visit followed shelling by Pakistan in the civilian areas of Jammu and Kashmir post Operation Sindoor, which was conducted on May 7. The operation was conducted in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, including a Nepalese national. India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 and struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir in response to a ghastly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres, and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. After this, on May 10, an understanding regarding the cessation of hostilities between India and Pakistan was announced. (ANI)

CPI(M)‘s M.A. Baby tours areas hit by shelling in Kashmir, expresses concern over ‘poor' compensation
A high-level delegation of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), headed by party general secretary M.A. Baby, on Tuesday (June 10, 2025) visited the population affected by shelling near the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Mr. Baby expressed concern over the poor compensation provided to affected families. Mr. Baby was accompanied by CPI(M) MPs Amra Ram, K. Radhakrishnan, John Brittas, Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya, S.U. Venkatesan, and A.A. Rahim. 'The situation is highly distressing because of the devastation and destruction [during Operation Sindoor]. The decision to grant ₹1.30 lakh as compensation is very meagre. J&K is a Union Territory now and is being ruled by the Centre. It's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah who are controlling everything here,' Mr. Baby, a former Rajya Sabha MP and Kerala Minister, said. He said the decision to revoke J&K's special status and reduce a full-fledged State into a Union Territory was 'an attack on democracy'. 'I am told the elected Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is not invited to important review meetings. These meetings are chaired by the Lieutenant Governor. Even the democratic process is being destroyed in J&K,' Mr. Baby said. The CPI(M) general secretary said his party MPs would take the issue of compensation in Parliament 'very seriously'. 'There are families, with eight members, living in one room in the name of shelter. The plight of border residents needed to be discussed. It's unfortunate that the Prime Minister did not attend the recent all-party meeting. His rhetoric cannot compensate for what people have suffered here,' Mr. Baby said. He also expressed concern over the lack of individual shelters for the population in vulnerable areas of the LoC. The CPI(M) is holding a one-day convention on the restoration of the legitimate constitutional rights of the people of Jammu & Kashmir in Srinagar on Wednesday (June 11, 2025). Mr. Baby and his party colleague, MLA M.Y. Tarigami, among others, will address the convention.
