‘No 1 rogue nation,' CPI(M)'s MA Baby condemns US strikes on Iran, calls it ‘naked declaration of war'

Baby further stated that the strike is similar to the lies about weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) that preceded the Iraq war. He warned that this attack's economic and political fallout would be global, including for India. Baby described the US as the 'No. 1 Rogue State' and called for protest action wherever possible. CPI(M)'s Baby expressed that his party unequivocally condemns the attack, which was reportedly carried out on the orders of the US President Donald Trump, ignoring the US intelligence. In an official post on X on Sunday, MA Baby said, 'We unequivocally condemn the US attack on Iran's nuclear sites — a grave violation of international law. Trump ordered this strike, ignoring US intelligence that Iran is not pursuing nuclear weapons. This mirrors the Iraq war lies — lies about WMDs then and nukes now. The economic & political fallout will be global, including for India. The US has proved itself to be the No. 1 Rogue State. Call for Protest action wherever possible.' Additionally, while speaking to ANI on the issue, Baby declared that the CPI(M) and other left parties have called upon people to come out in protest against the 'naked declaration of war' by the US and Israel. They have also demanded that the Indian government take a firm stand against the attack on Iran. 'We condemn this attack unequivocally. We, the CPIM and other left parties, call upon people to come out in protests against this naked declaration of war. We want the Indian government to take a firm stand against the attack on Iran by the USA and Israel…' MA Baby told ANI. The statement comes in the wake of heavy military strikes by the United States, targeting nuclear facilities in Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow. Iran condemned the attacks, calling them a violation of international law and vowed to continue its nuclear program. A statement issued by AEOI confirmed that early on Sunday morning, Iran's nuclear sites were 'subjected to savage aggression–an act in violation of international laws, particularly the NPT.' 'This action, which violates international regulations, unfortunately took place under the indifference–and even complicity–of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA),' it said.'The American enemy, through virtual space and by the declaration of its president, has taken responsibility for the attacks on the mentioned sites, which are under continuous IAEA monitoring in accordance with the Safeguards Agreement and the NPT,' the statement read. Iran's Atomic Energy Organisation said that it expects the international community to condemn the actions and support Iran in asserting its rights.'The Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran assures the great nation of Iran that despite the malicious plots of its enemies, with the dedication of thousands of revolutionary and motivated scientists and experts, it will not allow the development of this national industry–built on the blood of nuclear martyrs–to be halted. This organisation is taking the necessary steps to defend the rights of the noble Iranian people, including legal actions', the statement concluded. According to a CNN report, the US likely used six B-2 bombers to drop a dozen GBU-57 A/B 'bunker buster' bombs, also known as Massive Ordnance Penetrators (MOP), on the Fordow nuclear site, which is Iran's main location for uranium enrichment. A US official also told CNN that a full payload of bombs was dropped on his first public remarks following the strikes, President Trump warned that further action could be taken if Tehran fails to agree to a satisfactory peace settlement.'There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran, far greater than we've witnessed over the last eight days,' Trump said in his address to the nation from the White House on Saturday (local time). In a Truth Social post, he added, 'This cannot continue. There will be either peace or there will be a tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days. Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight's was the most difficult of them all, by far, and perhaps the most lethal. But if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill.' Trump also praised Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating: 'I want to thank Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu. We worked as a team like perhaps no team has ever worked before, and we've gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel.'He also lauded the military minds behind the joint operation: 'I want to thank the Israeli military for the wonderful job they've done and most importantly I want to congratulate great American patriots who flew those magnificent machines tonight, and all of the United States' military on an operation the likes of which the world has not seen in many, many decades. Hopefully, we will no longer need their services in this capacity. I hope that so.' Trump was joined by key members of his administration, Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth , as he delivered the remarks from the White House. K.K. Surendran slams CPI(M) over ‘Bharatamba' row

BJP State executive member K.K. Surendran on Saturday (June 21) alleged that the controversy over 'Bharatamba' was evidence of the CPI(M)'s continued reluctance to acknowledge Bharat as a nation. The agenda behind insulting 'Bharatamba' was a delusional attempt to gain political mileage by taking a stance that encourages anti-national forces, he said. Mr. Surendran said the CPI(M) still maintained the stance that Bharat was a conglomerate of multiple nations. He said that India has a culture that envisioned its land as a mother, whereas the CPI(M), upholding communist culture, has attempted to mould Bharat in the image of the former Soviet Union. 'That is why the CPI(M) is confined to Kerala. It should be willing to correct its mistakes at least now,' he said. Inaugurating a public meeting after offering floral tributes to 'Bharatamba' here, Mr. Surendran said that opposing the saffron colour and culture was tantamount to opposing India's culture. BJP district president Deepa Puzhakkal presided over the function.

As Pinarayi Vijayan, Stalin denounce Israel over Iran, Gaza conflicts, what lies beneath

Even as India distanced itself from a statement issued by the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) that condemned Israel's strikes on Iran, the Chief Ministers of two key Opposition-ruled states – DMK president M K Stalin of Tamil Nadu and CPI(M) stalwart Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala – have taken strong positions against the Israeli action leading to a war between the two countries. Referring to Israel's June 13 strikes, CM Stalin, in a post on X, said: 'Israel's strikes on Iran is a reckless act of aggression that risks igniting a wider war. Coupled with the continued bombardment of Gaza and suffering of Palestinian civilians, this violent path must be condemned. The world must push for restraint, justice, and meaningful diplomacy'. In his reaction, CM Vijayan stated on X: 'The entire international community must speak out to end reckless and unlawful aggression of Israel against Iran. Backed by the complicit support of the imperialist power bloc led by the United States, Israel continues its brazen and belligerent onslaught across West Asia. No peace-loving, dignified person can remain silent in the face of such atrocities, especially the ongoing genocide in Gaza. The time has come to stand up, speak out, and hold this rogue state accountable. Only then can we hope to restore peace and normalcy in the region'. DMK leader and MP Arun Nehru told The Indian Express, 'DMK's stand (on the conflict in West Asia) is clear. We believe in ending hostilities. And we believe in regional integrity. We do not want civilians to suffer even as we oppose all terror infrastructure.' The DMK leader also said that his party has maintained that 'diplomatic solutions' should be pursued instead of resorting to any in the DMK said Stalin issued his statement as he has been opposed to 'bloodshed in West Asia being led by Israel, which has now triggered a much larger war in the region'. Vijayan's stand reflected the CPI(M)'s consistent policy which has staunchly opposed 'genocide in Gaza', party leaders said. A statement issued by CPI(M) Politburo stated: 'The international community led by the United Nations must intervene without delay to restrain Israel's aggression (against Iran). The Government of India must add its voice to the global condemnation of this attack and actively urge Israel to cease its military operations immediately.' The CPI(M) also condemned India's decision to 'abstain from voting in support of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly', adding that 'such actions only serve to embolden Israel and its continued aggression in the region'. CPI(M) Politburo leader Ashok Dhawale said, 'Comrade Vijayan's stand is in line with the CPI(M)'s clear stand on Israel and Palestine. In fact, it is in line with India's traditional stand on the West Asian conflict. The CPI(M) has condemned Israel's continuing genocide in Israel and its latest attack on Iran. The Indian government's current position, which gives tacit support to Israel, is scandalous because right from the time of our Independence we have been very much aligned with the Palestinian struggle. We have always maintained that a two-state solution (with Israel and Palestine retaining their statehood as per pre-1967 boundaries), with East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine, is the practical solution'. New Delhi has urged both Israel and Iran to avoid any 'escalatory steps' and to resolve issues through dialogue and diplomacy. 'India enjoys close and friendly relations with both countries and stands ready to extend all possible support,' the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has said. Distancing itself from the SCO's statement against Israel, the MEA has also said: 'India did not participate in the discussions on the above-mentioned SCO statement… We urge that channels of dialogue and diplomacy be utilised to work towards de-escalation and it is essential that the international community undertake endeavours in that direction.' The principal Opposition Congress party criticised the BJP-led central government for not participating in the discussions on the SCO statement, asking if it had been reduced to being an 'abject apologist for Israel'.The Congress also criticised the Centre for abstaining from voting on the UNGA resolution for a ceasefire in Gaza, alleging that India's foreign policy was 'in a shambles'. The party asked if India has abandoned its principled stand advocating for ceasefire, peace and dialogue in West Asia, claiming that because of this decision the country 'virtually stands isolated'.

Five Left parties appeal to PM Modi to stop ‘extra-judicial killings' in Chhattisgarh

In a joint appeal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, five Left parties urged him to put an immediate halt to the 'extra-judicial' killings in the region around Chhattisgarh under Operation Kagar. The General Secretaries of the five Left parties- CPI's D. Raja, CPI(M)'s M.A. Baby, CPI(ML)'s Dipankar Bhattacharya, Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) leader Manoj Bhattacharya and All India Forward Bloc (AIFB) leader G. Devarajan, in the letter, said there are reports that several senior Maoist leaders are currently in the custody of the security forces. 'We demand that they should all be produced in court and dealt with as per the rule of law,' they said. Also read: Seeking truth and reconciliation in Chhattisgarh Issue of militarisation The Adivasis in the region have long been complaining about the militarisation of the region. 'The Adivasi rights enshrined in the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution are being systematically violated and the forests and minerals of Chhattisgarh are being subjected to indiscriminate corporate exploitation with disastrous implications for environmental stability and livelihood of the local people. We urge upon you to stop this militaristic approach that treats the Adivasis with unmitigated hostility,' the joint appeal said. The leaders underlined that the government has been refusing to hand over the bodies to the families, denying them their right to give a dignified farewell to their family members. The repeated appeal from the Maoists for dialogue has also been ignored. 'The statements made by the Union Home Minister, reiterating the deadline and the Chhattisgarh Chief Minister's assertion that there is no need for talks, reflect a mindset unwilling to resolve issues through dialogue. The government should not be intransigent and celebrate the taking of human lives against the spirit of the law of the land and principles of democratic governance,' the leaders said. The Left parties urged the government to respond to the Maoist declaration of unilateral ceasefire and initiate a dialogue to resolve all issues. 'We reiterate the appeal and urge upon you to stop the extra-judicial killings and violence with immediate effect and order an impartial judicial enquiry,' they said.

Sanjay Jha-led delegation briefs EAM Jaishankar on Operation Sindoor outreach

The all-party parliamentary delegation led by JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha on Thursday met External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar and briefed him on the support received during their recent five-nation diplomatic outreach on the Operation Sindoor. The delegation which met EAM Jaishankar included BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Hemang Joshi, and Pradan Baruah, Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, CPI(M)'s Rajya Sabha member John Brittas, senior Congress leader Salman Khurshid and former diplomat Mohan Kumar. During their visits to Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, the delegation presented dossiers and evidence on Pakistan-sponsored cross-border terrorism relating to Pahalgam terror attack and also informed them about India's military action under Operation Sindoor. Speaking to IANS after the meeting, JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha said, "There was a very positive atmosphere in Indonesia. We received support, and their statement was in favour of India. Malaysia, however, appeared a little neutral. We noticed every country had its own approach. In many places, we got a positive response; in some, it was neutral, and in a few, there were questions. But this was the aim of our tour -- to understand and share perspectives." "We shared with them our firm stand against terrorism," he added. Responding to criticism from sections of the Opposition regarding alleged losses suffered during Operation Sindoor, Jha asserted, "The strongest message we sent globally was that India stands united. When I introduced the delegation members as being from Kerala, Assam, Bengal, Gujarat, and from different parties, it sent a strong signal that the entire nation and political spectrum was speaking in one voice. If one or two voices dissent, they should reflect on whether they are aligned with the country or somewhere else." BJP MP Aparajita Sarangi said, "We received an invitation from the EAM's office, and today we all had a productive discussion. Each member shared detailed experiences from the countries we visited. The Minister was deeply engaged and asked many questions. We explained everything in depth. Now the MEA will take a call on the further steps." Referring to the criticism over timing of diplomatic outreach, Sarangi said, "The delegation completed its work with seriousness and gave its briefing. Even today, during the meeting with the EAM, leaders like Salman Khurshid and CPI(M)'s John Brittas were present, and there was great camaraderie and unity. That's what stood out the most."
