A-League: Western United hit with pay breach notices
Western United has again been given a 14-day deadline to pay overdue wages to players and staff. Don't miss out on the headlines from Football. Followed categories will be added to My News. Western United has again been served with breach notices by a host of the A-League club's players over unpaid wages. It's the second time in two months that United has been issued breach notices by disgruntled players, who were also forced to endure late pay in May. United had 14 days from Friday to make the payments. If the club fails to meet the deadline, players will be entitled to leave to the club, regardless of their contract status. A club spokesman said United was in 'constant communication with all players' and was working 'closely with the PFA (Professional Footballers Australia) and the APL (Australian Professional Leagues) to ensure this is addressed in the coming days'. Earlier in the week, United officials had been confident the club's proposed new majority backers – KAM Melbourne – would have paid the players and staff their overdue wages by Friday. — Western United FC (@wufcofficial) June 17, 2025 However, the money wasn't forthcoming, leading some players issuing breach notices via PFA. KAM Melbourne, a subsidiary of KAM Sports, was last month announced as financially embattled United's new controlling stakeholders. However, the deal is yet to be approved by the APL, which runs the A-League. PFA chief executive officer Beau Busch earlier this week said United's players and staff were 'victims of a governance model that is not fit for purpose, and where FA (Football Australia) and the APL appear unwilling to enforce their own regulations'. 'The professionalism of the Western United players and staff in the most trying conditions is a testament to their character and commitment to Australian football,' Busch said. 'The players (have been) left to fight for their most basic entitlement as employees. We will continue to ensure the players have access to the full resources of the PFA.' Originally published as Western United given 14 days to pay overdue wages or run risk of losing players Football Adelaide United's treatment of one the club's former players has been described as 'disgraceful'. Football Matildas star Ellie Carpenter appears to be one step closer to signing a massive transfer deal from Lyon to WSL club Chelsea, setting up a reunion with national teammate Sam Kerr.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire: Potential 'major difference-makers' among pickups to target
Hopefully there is something for everyone among the 11 names tabbed for consideration this week. Managers are encouraged to consider grabbing multiple players who work primarily in a platoon role. And there are also a couple players, Addison Barger and Eury Pérez, who could be major difference-makers this summer. [Smarter waivers, better trades, optimized lineups — Yahoo Fantasy Plus unlocks it all] Addison Barger, 3B/OF, Toronto Blue Jays, 40% Barger has started to turn elite skills into production, having hit .385 with four homers in 26 at-bats since May 28. The 25-year-old's Statcast page is covered in red, as he ranks among the top 15% of hitters in key stats such as average exit velocity, barrel rate, hard-hit rate, xBA and xSLG. He also has an absolute cannon of an arm that allows him to excel at third base or in right field. The Blue Jays have a clear need for another impact bat in their lineup, and the combination of skills and opportunity makes Barger the most exciting position player who is currently available in most leagues. Advertisement Michael Busch, 1B, Chicago Cubs, 49% Busch is the perfect player for default Yahoo formats. The slugger rarely plays against left-handers, which makes it easy for managers to stream him between their lineup and bench. Busch has been so good against righties (.952 OPS) that he ranks 11th among first basemen in both RBI and home runs. And his managers have received that production while also getting additional stats on his days off. Those in shallow leagues who are dedicated to monitoring their daily lineup should pick him up. Hyeseong Kim, 2B/SS, Los Angeles Dodgers, 15% Kim has less of a track record and a much different skill set than Busch, but there are otherwise plenty of similarities between the two. The rookie has been in the majors a little over a month, and in that time he has established himself as a game-changing player against right-handers (.994 OPS). He has also proven to be impactful on the basepaths (five steals). Kim doesn't start against southpaws, which means that managers can get all of his production and more by moving him to the bench when the Dodgers do the same. He's a great fit in categories leagues. Parker Meadows, OF, Detroit Tigers, 26% Meadows is the third consecutive player in this article who has plenty of value despite being platooned by his team. The outfielder recently returned from a season-opening stint on the IL, and he immediately took over as Detroit's leadoff hitter against right-handers. Hitting atop a lineup that ranks 4th in runs scored should allow Meadows to accumulate plenty of counting stats, and he also has a balanced skill set that will lead to some homers and steals. Finally, Meadows has a lifetime .728 OPS against left-handers, which should earn him some opportunities in those matchups. Willi Castro, 2B/3B/SS/OF, Minnesota Twins, 42% Castro got off to a slow start this season and then spent about three weeks on the IL. But since returning exactly one month ago, he has been a balanced contributor who has hit .278 with 5 homers, 2 steals and 18 runs scored. The 28-year-old does not have a high ceiling, but he contributes in a variety of ways and is among the easiest players to fit into a lineup thanks to his four-position eligibility. Advertisement Brett Baty, 2B/3B, New York Mets, 14% Baty has fared well of late, batting .260 with a .795 OPS since the beginning of May. His effective play has led to a full-time role, which puts Baty in terrific position to thrive this weekend when the Mets work at hitter-friendly Coors Field against a team with a 5.93 home ERA. Managers in all formats should strive to have some shares of New York's lineup until Sunday night. Eury Pérez, SP, Miami Marlins, 42% Pérez is set to return from April 2024 Tommy John surgery on Monday, and he will immediately become the most talented pitcher who is available in the majority of Yahoo leagues. The youngster was outstanding as a 20-year-old in his rookie season, logging a 3.15 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP and a 10.6 K/9 rate. Sure, there is risk involved with someone who is coming off such a long layoff, but Pérez has the upside of a mixed-league ace. Michael Wacha, SP, Kansas City Royals, 50% With a 2.88 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP, Wacha has been as effective as any full-time starter who remains widely available in Yahoo leagues. The veteran is the best pitcher to stream this weekend, as he is scheduled to start tomorrow against a 20-43 White Sox team that ranks 26th in runs scored. Griffin Canning, SP, New York Mets, 41% Canning bounced back from a pair of subpar outings when he struck out seven across six shutout innings against the high-scoring Dodgers. The right-hander walks too many batters (10.4%), but he minimizes the damage by getting his share of strikeouts and ground balls. Although Canning isn't effective enough to be recommended for long-term use, he will be one of the top available two-start hurlers next week when he will make a pair of appearances at his pitcher-friendly home park. Advertisement Ryne Nelson, SP/RP, Arizona Diamondbacks, 6% Nelson is an interesting dart throw in deeper leagues, as an injury to Corbin Burnes has opened a rotation spot for the 27-year-old, who logged a 3.23 ERA and a 67:14 K:BB ratio while working almost exclusively as a starter during the second half of last season. Nelson has been effective while mostly pitching in relief this year (3.43 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 35:11 K:BB ratio) and could be a permanent rotation member from this point forward. Daniel Palencia, RP, Chicago Cubs, 46% Palencia's roster rate has slowly climbed, but there is still a long way to go for someone who has established himself as the full-time closer for one of baseball's best teams. Palencia has pitched well this season (1.74 ERA, 0.77 WHIP) and will be a top-15 reliever as long as he holds his current role.

Kyle Busch's Lavish 15,000 Square Feet Home Goes on Sale at a Premium Price
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. NASCAR star Kyle Busch has listed his 15,000-square-foot (approx.) barndominium for sale for an eye-watering sum of $4.5 million. While he resides at Lake Norman, Busch has decided to sell his Cleveland property, which spans 35.23 acres. Unsurprisingly, the property is well-suited for racing lovers and features its own underground garages and fuel storage. A saltwater pool, a basketball court, and a bar make this home a luxury standout. Busch bought this property from the Deegan family in 2023, who have a background in motorsport. Marissa Deegan revealed two years ago on Instagram that the property was ideal for those fond of racing. She wrote: Kyle Busch, driver of the #8 Rebel Bourbon Chevrolet, looks on during qualifying for the NASCAR Cup Series AdventHealth 400 at Kansas Speedway on May 10, 2025 in Kansas City, Kansas. Luckily I enjoy building and decorating and don't mind doing it over and over again🤣 along with everything else❤️ Can't wait to see who gets to enjoy this compound next....." However, Busch has listed the property for sale after just two years since he doesn't spend enough time there. He wrote on X: "We love this piece of land and the amazing barndominium but right now we just don't have enough time to spend there. We can't wait for someone to love it as much as we have!" 🏠FOR SALE We love this piece of land and the amazing barndominium but right now we just don't have enough time to spend there. The property was co-owned by his wife, DeLana Harvick. The mansion sat on a plot of 4.4 acres and featured a golf simulator, a pool house, a gym, and an arcade. The property was initially listed for a sum of $12 million in May 2024. Realtor Heather Gibbs stated that he was 'blown away' by the work that went into building the property. He said: "The first time I walked through this home, I was blown away by the quality, attention to detail, and patience it took my sellers to slowly build an estate of a lifetime." The Harvicks also own a property in Cornelius that became famous for featuring in the movie Talladega Nights. DeLana reportedly bought it for $6.75 million in 2023.

Chicago Cubs rely on timely hits and Michael Busch's near cycle in a 8-3 win against the Washington Nationals
WASHINGTON — Sometimes, Michael Busch's offensive production can be overlooked. In a lineup as deep as the Chicago Cubs' that has shown they can beat teams in different ways, Busch's steadiness has provided consistency capable of carrying the team for stretches. Without right fielder Kyle Tucker in the lineup Tuesday as he nurses a jammed right ring finger, Busch reached base four times and fell a double short of the cycle in the Cubs' 8-3 win against the Washington Nationals. Busch's three-hit day and a bases-loaded walk paced the Cubs, whose four-run fifth inning broke a tie. Nico Hoerner capped the frame with a two-out, two-run double. Busch, who came into the series opener with a .344 average, .432 on-base percentage and 1.026 OPS in the last two weeks, connected for his ninth homer of the year in the seventh inning. 'He's always patient so he's always making very good swing decisions — it's definitely a strength,' manager Craig Counsell said. 'The ball that gets driven, the home run, is when you're locked in, you get into a good count and you don't miss something. … It's always good swing decisions. You're always going to get that from him, and that's why it seems quiet sometimes, his production.' The Cubs (38-22) continue to have all the marks of a great team. Twice they immediately answered the Nationals, taking the lead in the first and third innings by tying the game in the ensuing half inning. Rookie right-hander Cade Horton is pitching well in the injured Shota Imanaga's rotation spot, holding a lefty-only Washington lineup to three runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings. Pete Crow-Armstrong's presence on base set up the Cubs to tie the game in the fourth. A double and a stolen base put pressure on the Nationals' defense. Third baseman José Tena hesitated on Carson Kelly's grounder, putting his focus on Crow-Armstrong who had danced off third on the play but beat Tena to the base to give the Cubs runners on the corners. Busch (RBI single) and Dansby Swanson (sacrifice fly) immediately drove them in. 'You give this team four outs in an inning, I like our chances, right?' Counsell said. 'We've done that a number of times, somehow get four outs in an inning, and if you give us four outs, we're going to score.' Perhaps most impressively, the Cubs came through with runners in scoring position, going 4-for-8 in such situations. Among the 13 qualified big-league hitters with a weighted runs created plus (wRC+) of at least 200 with RISP, the Cubs have four: Busch (12th, 201 wRC+), Seiya Suzuki (11th, 202), Pete Crow-Armstrong (seventh, 207) and Carson Kelly (fourth, 229). Hoerner has been among the best in baseball in those situations when it comes to putting the ball in play. His .424 average with RISP ranks fourth in the majors. Counsell described Hoerner as having the perfect approach in those spots. 'There's going to be contact, it's really hard to strike him out,' Counsell said. 'It's his elite skill, being very tough to strike out. And so you put runners on base and maybe defenders in a little bit different position, and it's going to lead to good things.' Busch reached base in nine consecutive plate appearances dating to Friday, a streak that ended on his flyout in the ninth. 'The biggest contributing factor is taking balls and swinging at strikes,' Busch said. 'And when you're doing that, you're giving yourself a pretty good shot. I think I've been doing that pretty well lately.' Busch's performance on the road this year, although a small sample size, has featured impressive numbers. Entering Tuesday, the 27-year-old first baseman owned a .287/.362/.553 slash line and .915 OPS compared to .241/.370/.410 and a .780 OPS at Wrigley Field. Busch isn't sure why there has been a notable contrast between his home and road splits, noting how he tries to keep the same approach no matter the ballpark. 'Just try to get in there every at-bat and just try to have a good one,' Busch said. 'I have taken a lot of pride in that, and just try to give myself the best shot. Go through good stretches, bad stretches, but just try to show up with a similar mindset each and every day.'
